Shocked, I am.

I'll be doubly shocked if the witnesses are refusing to cooperate with the police!

I don't think this actually happened, because Canada has very strict handgun laws.

meanwhile this happens often in US

Multiple people were shot early Tuesday at a Tuscaloosa, Alabama, bar, and a suspect remains at large, police told CNN.

The shooting occurred about 12:30 a.m. at The Copper Top bar, Tuscaloosa police Sgt. Brent Blankley said. He would not confirm how many people were injured or their conditions.

CNN affiliate WVTM, citing officials at DCH Hospital, reported that 17 people were wounded. CNN affiliate WBRC said that of those hurt, one was in critical condition, and three were in serious condition.

Or, is it just because Canada doesn't have nearly the population of the United States, therefore incidents like this are more rare?

Gun violence in Toronto has been skyrocketing as of late. There was one at Eaton Centre in downtown a couple of months ago.

What is mayor Rob Ford going to do?

2012-07-17 11:46:46 AM
Dear Canada: we're sorry that our country has no real gun laws and allows Smith & Wesson, Colt and various other companies to flood the planet with murder weapons. Some of us are working on the problem, despite a culture that glorifies murder and the myth of home defense.

The United States

Calmamity: I don't think this actually happened, because Canada has very strict handgun laws.

Very strict gun control laws mean that only criminals end up with guns. The laws don't make it any harder for the bad guys to get ahold of them. If they want to, they will. I'm from nearby Hamilton and I don't recall a lot of gun-related violence, but it did happen. Certainly plenty of beatings and knifey goodness to make up for the lack of shootings, however.

I also think that any idiots self-absorbed enough to think that solving their ridiculous petty dispute by shooting wildly in a crowd of people deserve to be stoned to death by a crowd of women wearing fake beards. Failing that, they could at least be donated to the military or to the USA as Indentured Meat Shields for the troops overseas. Better than taking up tax dollars by sitting in jail for 20 years.

I believe statistically speaking we don't shoot each other as often as Americans.

That said we have lots of guns in Canada - 7-8 million for a population of 35 million.

Handguns are fairly common where I live and IPSC is the fastest growing shooting sport. We have a 10 rnd cap on mags for pistols and 5 for most centre fire semis. Certain longguns like ARs are restricted, as are pistols and revolvers so you need a special permit. Some longguns like AKs, and pistols in .25 and .32, as well as those under 105mm are prohibited. There is a whole cottage industry dedicated to manufacturing 106mm barrels for Glock 30s, etc.

We also have unusual laws that treat a pump shotgun with an 8 inch barrel as a long gun as long as its oal is 26 inches.

I wonder if the shooters' pistols were registered and had reduced capacity magazines? I wonder.

No wonder. The biggest shiathole did ever did shiathole.

Might as well pave the entire area down. (They'd be doing us all a favor)

Some other wonderful areas of the GTA:

- Entire downtown core

Come to think of it, for anyone considering moving to Toronto, don't. (Unless you enjoy the stink of poverty, ignorance, and corporate greed)

Dear Canada: I look forward to visiting you for a skiing trip in January, and I promise not to bring any of my firearms with me. However, I cannot make the same promise regarding alcohol....I plan on going over your (low) limit and will attempt to get out of paying any taxes on my drive through the border. But enough about the negative stuff.....you do allow each person to bring in up to 50 cigars tax free, so that's really cool.

Judging by the drug war, we'd gin up a huge seizure and imprisonment industry and interdict upwards of .01% of the guns flowing across the border.
