Kind of blaming the victim here, aren't you?

Be that as it may, it's not uncommon for younger women and older men to get together.
I have a distant relative who was 44 when he married a 14-year-old. That was in 1908 and the male relative was found to have become subsequently older on US census forms as the decades passed. He may have had some incentive to lie about his age as regards his young bride.

Raharu: Despite your being a total git when it comes to religion, I have to say that I pretty much agree with you here.

You'll come around on religion, too.

Atheism is a valid scientific position to hold, but it's also not very helpful when you're trying to do something difficult like stay awake for nine days straight without food and only a mouthful of water on the fifth day. Prayer and meditation, on the other hand, are more than enough to help see the dedicated practitioner through. You shouldn't just throw such peerless mental tools away in your myopic love affair with particle accelerators and space probes just because your initial reaction is skeptical.

Just like you shouldn't be claiming a victory for children when you save a fiction child who never existed from a "predator" that didn't actually predatorize any children while the rest of your department is out there greasing the wheels of the underworld locking up people's dads and moms for tiny amounts of pot and other recreational drugs, almost ensuring those American kids wind up in some kind of abusive foster home or something worse at some point in their needless oddessy though a broken system.

Stand down those narcotics officers and put them on a more useful job assignment and you'll save more families in a year than all the efforts of the past decade. Save the family, save the children.

Perhaps all three, but also strongly acculturated to a lifestyle that requires an exchange of value for a service or anything else, even a relationship. It's an authoritarian follower mindset, common to cops, prison guards, shut-ins, religious zealots, hierarchically oriented people, etc. They think only idiots act on their impulses to have sexual relationship without social/monetary exchange guarantees in place. It's an old school, very unimaginative outlook.

doglover: So it irks me when the FBI spends countless man hours and dollars looking for pedos online and setting up convoluted honey pot stings in chat rooms and shiat like that when they could just as easily have put all that money in other resources and helped a lot more kids.

The FBI directors are not doing this because it wipes out huge swaths of crime. While you are correct that the likelihood of a kid getting diddled is more likely to come from someone they know rather than some online predator or even a random stranger in the streets, these stings, simply put are not for your approval. These stings are for the approval of the scared, white, suburban soccer mom who spends way too many hours watching movies on Lifetime.

Gotta remember, for years and YEARS now, younger generations have been lead to believe that all strangers are either peddling drugs or want to touch their "naughty places"...and God forbid said stranger is a non-white, because then...whooooo...they gonna rob you too!

doglover: BronyMedic: redator, at least to me, seems like a much more apt definition of this person.

Yes. And the father caught him and turned him in. This is how the world should work. You watch out for your kids.

Here's the thing, online predators are a very small percentage of the people who hurt children. The overwhelming majority of people who do bad things to kids are family or at least close friends of the family. So it irks me when the FBI spends countless man hours and dollars looking for pedos online and setting up convoluted honey pot stings in chat rooms and shiat like that when they could just as easily have put all that money in other resources and helped a lot more kids. Take those computers and agent hours and give them to child welfare. Instead of baiting the odd tard into going full felony, use those agents to survail possible abusive homes. They're the fedral beaurau of INVESTIGATION. It's all about priorities.

Instead, they do the least amount of work possible to help the least number of children, in potential and actual, cry "We love all children." while hypocritically continuing the war on drugs which has orphaned and killed more kids in the past few decades than most wars that involved the Pentagon. It's freakin' mind blowing when you get down to it.

What they should really do is drop the war on drugs and start the war on misalocation of law enforcement resources on speed traps, pot heads, and whatever Sherrif Joe is up to these days.

It's ok though, because it's the US government. They will quickly learn and adapt to set better priorities. They always do.

Everyone knows 14-year-old girls are exceptionally stable, dependable, forgiving, and rational.
In fact, they would be excellent emotional models upon which to base the artificial intelligence for an entire line of cybernetic humanoid machines. They could be called Cybernetic Lifeform Nodes or something like that. They could be even be allowed to form their own religious sensibilities.

Science has no way of proving there is a God, any more than it has the tools to disprove the existance of a God. Even with a fundamental understanding of every basic truth of the Universe, we are still incapable of ruling out the existence of a higher power. The absence of evidence, is not evidence of absence; we may simply lack the proper tools to perceive what we wish to study.

The ones we hold to claim are not self-evident. That all men are NOT created equal. That if the God from the Old Testament is to be believed to have existed, then we should be glad He is past the little tantrums He had that would make a 4-year old cringe. That if such a supreme being existed with such intellect, cunning eye and intelligent design, he also is possessed of a wicked sense of humor stating "Be fruitful and multiply" yet giving some men very small penises.

So it is God's fault this dude could not get laid and had to resort a early-teen, wheelchair bound gutter slut.

Don't blame the victim. Bad habit to get into.

Between the ages of 0-7 (lets say), you teach your kid right from wrong.
Between the ages of 8-coontil you're dead essentially) you teach your kid judgement.
Right from wrong has NOTHING to do with judgement (usually)

So lets look at it from her perspective and we see that . . . OH! we can't because, SHE'S IN A CHAIR and you and I are not - I'm not a 14 year old girl either (don't know about you but, I have suspicions)

So - don't blame the victim - there's enough of that going around anyway -

2012-07-17 08:42:23 AM
I can imagine a 14-yo arranging something like that, just to get laid. 14-yo, boys and girls, are hornier than a rhino, and that clouds their judgement.

At 33 year-old, you are supposed to be past that, be the voice of reason, and say "there's no way in hell I'm doing that".

You can't prove that invisible pink unicorns do not exist. You can't prove that they aren't very spiritual beings (and they must be, to be both pink and invisible). And you can't prove that they are not pink. You now have no choice but to acknowledge they do exist, and give them the worship they deserve.

2012-07-17 08:45:45 AM

Diogenes The Cynic:
No its not. No no, not at all. Are you trying to be as wrong as possible? Do you even know what science is?

It's the interpretation of verifiable, reproducible evidence. Religion is the assumption of truths written anonymously in apocryphal manuals that rely on themselves for proof.

Atheism as science goes something like this: Some people a long time ago totally pinky-swore they saw a god. Some rational person hypothesizes that a god must exist and sets out to prove it with evidence, because that's what science is. The nonexistence of a thing cannot conclusively be proven; if someone asserts that a thing exists he bears the burden of proving its existence. Since the god story relies on things we cannot observe (conclusively detecting the supernatural, correctly identifying and interpreting the intentions of an eternal god-thing, the ability for a mortal who can't even visualize numbers small enough that they can be conveniently written down to somehow understand and articulate the infinite) the only proof is the say-so of the mythology itself, which is not verifiable. Since the god-thing as described in these books cannot be proven by scientific means, science suggests there are no such beings.

If The Man came down here today, calmed the oceans with a look, healed a guy by touching his forehead and turned some smartass into a pillar of salt, you bet your ass I'd be at his feet with the rest of you - but not because I would "believe". I would know. Assuming a god-thing is inifinitely wise and savvy, such a creature would be able to look at the information I have to go on, evaluate the trustworthiness of its source and understand why I wouldn't buy into it.

Atheism may be a valid philosophical position, but science doesn't have the tools to deal with metaphysical truths.

Assuming the existence of metaphyiscal truths is a hell of a leap for someone who hasn't proven that there even is a metaphysical yet. Bring me back a postcard from infinity and we'll talk.

There is a staggering amount of victimization that pediatric and adolescent disabled boys and girls recieve, and goes unreported.
