Oh snap, I never realized that is the same guy who played Tupolev in Hunt for Red October.

BeatrixK: Gary Cole is SOOO not a 'That Guy'

And no disrespect to That Guy's, because most of 'em are far more awesome than their lack of name recognition indicates. (Looking at you, Fichtner) But Gary Cole was Bill farking Lumberg! He freakin owned Mike Brady in the BB Reboot movies (seriously...mocking while simultaneously paying homage to pop culture's greatest pontificator on the pointless was no small feat.)

And is it just me, or does the pic of Ray Wise look like he wants to jump through the pic and eat your skull?

And Harvey Birdman and Captain Gideon.

palelizard: I think they've almost all been bad guys on Burn Notice.

Speaking of which, how does Jere Burns not make this list? I always knew him as "that weird, creepy-looking guy," and then he ends up with some pretty awesome recurring villainous roles on Burn Notice and Justified (two totally amazing TV shows).

Ctrl-Alt-Del: Sadly, the number one guy who used to top this kind of list died....

R.I.P John O'Connor

I actually came to see if Schiavelli was mentioned even though he's dead.
Then I saw the JK Simmons conversation and agree he is pretty well known. I liked his Law & Order stuff, and his JJ Jameson was great, but I was damn glad that he was the one who got to kill Winona Ryder in Autumn in New York. Stupid girl made me sit through that awful movie. Someone had better die!

mitchcumstein1: naugahyde monkey: shillinger was terrifying

absolutely terryifying

Schillinger burning the swastika onto Beecher's buttocks after raping him for the first time was one of the most chilling scenes I've ever seen. Poor, innocent* Beecher having it literally burned into him that his life would never be the same, even when he got out - he was irrevocably changed.

Danny Trejo. And I would say he's vaulted well past "that guy" status. He's one of the most well known and respected Hispanic actors, well ever. When he did Machete, actors were lining up to be in the movie simply because it was his idea and they wanted to be a part of it for him.

i think there were only 7 or 8 on the list that i legitimately didnt know, the rest were definitely known character actors to me. i wanna see a list of commercial actors that are in so many commercials. generic white guy/girl and generic man-child husband/helicopter mom are so prevalent.

Ironside is known for dying in almost every movie he's ever been in. I've always thought that someone in Hollywood had it in for him.

It's like "Hey what about Michael Ironside? He'd be perfect!"
"No, only if he dies. I love seeing that smug bastard get what he deserves!"

Michael Biehn is my favorite actor, but whenever I'm talking about him, I have to use a lot of "He was 'that guy' from ..." to get people to recognize him.

One of his best roles to date is the voice of Covetous Shen (the jeweler) in Diablo 3... Most talkative NPC in a game ever... he just won't shut up.... but it's so damn amusing to listen to him.

I think he's been in half the movies made since the early 70s.

He used to have a house at Wrightsville Beach and would occasionally join my jogging group in the mid-80s. Nice guy.
