FirstNationalBastard: naugahyde monkey: mitchcumstein1: FirstNationalBastard: J. K. Simmons is a "that guy"? He's been on Law and Order! Oz! HE WAS J. JONAH. JAMESON IN THE SPIDER-MAN MOVIE SERIES THAT DIDN'T SUCK!

I can't ever look at him without thinking about him raping Beecher, then Beecher shiatting in his mouth.

And Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will always be Adabisi.

there are a whole bunch of the OZ actors on other things now (mostly law and order)... They will ALWAYS be the guys from OZ to me... I can't help but seeing them all in their most disturbing scenes, no matter what.

/simmons is an incredible actor, shillinger was terrifying

Yeah, there was a big Law and Order: SVU/Oz crossover as far as actors go.

Would have been great to see a real L&O:SVU/Oz crossover. Let Dr. Emil Skoda psychologically analyze Schillinger.

that meloni guy... he's a nice guy attorney on L&O (I think, I don't watch)... but all i remember is him showing his ex cell mate/boyfriend the goods (no detail here, look it up on your own).

/so many disturbing moments in that show

EKU Colonel: Clark Gregg is on the list? He was in all of the "Avengers" movies and a staring role on "New Adventures of Old Christine"

Yep. Maybe before the Avengers, he would've still been "that guy", but I would argue he's more well known than 1.5 of the 6 main Avengers (Hawkeye and everything else that isn't Black Widow's boobs/ass)

downstairs: Ray Wise? Pretty big role on Twin Peaks

Gary Cole? Well known for his role in Office Space

Otherwise an OK list. I think you lose your "that guy" title when you have at least one notable role for which you're always recognized for.

The whole point of "that guy" is you're known, just not for one specific thing.

I disagree - I would argue that it is for being the actor that everybody recognizes, and gets plenty of work, but nobody knows who the hell he is. Actors widely recognized for one single famous role, but who are otherwise obscure may be a bit rarer than long time character and support actors, but no reason to disqualify them automatically. Shawn Wallace, for example. - extremely well and widely known for one role, recognized by every one, but not many people know his name

But this list misses several of the quintessential "that guy" actors:

"Has your lost one's memory been irretrievably lost? Hi. I'm forgettable actor Bill Pullman. You might not remember me from such movies as While You Were Sleeping and Twister. Wait, was I in Twister? No. No, that was Bill Paxton. See? Memory can be pretty tricky. So that's why if you tell your loved one what's happened to them, their brain will implode. Good luck. I'm Bill Pullman. Gary Cole is SOOO not a 'That Guy'

And no disrespect to That Guy's, because most of 'em are far more awesome than their lack of name recognition indicates. (Looking at you, Fichtner) But Gary Cole was Bill farking Lumberg! He freakin owned Mike Brady in the BB Reboot movies (seriously...mocking while simultaneously paying homage to pop culture's greatest pontificator on the pointless was no small feat.)

And is it just me, or does the pic of Ray Wise look like he wants to jump through the pic and eat your skull?

The Andy Griffith Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, Twilight Zone, Dragnet, All in the Family... he was everywhere in the 50s, 60s, and 70s. Since he was born in 1884, his TV career didn't start until he was in his late-60s.

Sybarite: I understand most of those, but I was surprised to see and Fred Ward on the list. I thought everyone knew who they were.

Gary Cole is a great actor. He can do comedy, action, drama. The best actors are what they call "character actors" as opposed to movie stars who just play themselves all the time.

KidSock2004: "All these science spheres are made of asbestos by the way, keeps out the rats. Let us know if you feel a shortness of breath, a persistent dry cough or your heart stopping, because that's not part of the test - that's asbestos."

"We haven't entirely nailed down what element it is yet, but I'll tell you this: it's a lively one and it does not like the human skeleton."

"Those of you who volunteered to be injected with praying mantis DNA, I've got some good news and some bad news. Bad news is we're postponing those tests indefinitely. Good news is we've got a much better test for you: fighting an army of mantis men. Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts."

Simmons made a fantastic game series even more amazing

"I'm no psychiatrist, but coming from a bunch of eggheads who wouldn't recognize the thrill of danger if it walked up and snapped their little pink bras, that sounds like 'projection'."
