Just reading the "why people are signing" comments is evidence enough that those who are participating in this "petition" are completely in denial of the facts of the Freeh Report.

It's kind of sad, really.

Hate the sin, love the sinner. Let he who is without sin cast the first stone. No man is perfect. Let us not forget all of the good he did. Don't let those outsiders come in and make demands.

The parishioners in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Archdiocese of Boston, and the Archdiocese of Happy Valley are all on the same page.

Hell yeah, keep the statue. It'll remind people of what you allowed to happen, and your level of support for that decision.

The mindset of these people is baffling.

AbbeySomeone: The mindset of these people is baffling.

I moved to central PA about 15 years ago from another state. Even before this whole scandal, these Penn State people were farking freaky to me and I dig college football, too. They seriously regard Paterno as a god. It's horrifying to witness first hand. If they take that statue down, which they should, I guarantee you there will be violent riots. It is a straight-up cult with these people.

As someone said in a thread yesterday: just cover it up for 13 years.

People that define themselves by a group ideal of any kind are frightening because they will attack anyone or anything that threatens their belief system and security.

Holocaust deniers probably sign similar types of things.

If you take this completely out of your context and apply it at face value, it seems to apply equally to all sides of this particular issue.

Question: Why should Penn State bow to the demands of people who never even heard of Jerry Sandusky until this was front-page news?

I mean, if the victims and their families want it taken down, or some state body orders it torn down, that's another thing altogether, but why should they listen to you or even me?

2012-07-16 09:17:23 AM
As someone mentioned in a post yesterday. Just turn the statue around, so it's looking the other way.

question: how long will happy valley be known as Kiddy Diddler Junction, and will the resident's devotion to somebody involved in earning that reputation help or harm on that front?

in other words, they can do as they please - it's not like there are statue tearing storm troopers forming at the borders. the thing is, the rest of us can mock, deride, and shame them for what they chose on the above front, too.

The PSU BOT has asked the PSU community to decide if Joe Paterno's statue should remain where it now stands. We are shocked and appalled by the BOT complete lack of back-bone and resolve to protect the very bed-rock traditions of Penn State. Their weakness and lack of loyalty is a disgrace to the Nittany Nation. It shows a complete unwillingness to stand tall for Penn State rather than bowing to absurd public and media pressure that seeks only to harm and destroy us.

Wow. Seriously PSU fan, you need to get these nut-jobs in check. Take a blow-torch and cauterize this wound already.

*SIGNS*

"His statue should remain as a reminder of how careful we should be to idolize people who may or may not allow child molestation to occur and do nothing about it in order to preserve the image of their silly sports program. Also, it will give pigeons something to poop on."

2012-07-16 09:24:10 AM
can they change the statue to have his arm around the shoulders of a 10 year old boy, and the other arm around sandusky?

2012-07-16 09:24:45 AM
Whatever, if they want a constant reminder that they worship a pederast-protector on their campus, let it be.

2012-07-16 09:28:04 AM
Just turn the statue around so he's looking at the wall.

Or put a blindfold on it

Here's a shiny new petition that may interest people outraged by this suggestion: a demand for the NCAA death penalty. I'd like to hope that we can get more signatures than this "honor Joe Paterno" crap.

2012-07-16 09:37:11 AM
Heh, that online petition forum comments aren't policed are they? I made it through about five clicks for more comments before my stomach gave out and nary a word of criticism of St. Joseph Paterno. They should be ashamed of themselves.

Nothing they do in Happy Valley could suprise me anymore.Even the Westboro Baptist Churchers are too weirded out by the locals to protest there.

Personally, what I'd love to do is use the emergency broadcast system in Molester Valley to broadcast someone reading the Freeh report. Every single goddamn TV station, every single goddamn radio station, all the time, for the next fifteen years. Over and over.

These people are some sick farks.

If you take it completely out of context, it can't apply to any issue whatsoever, because it's been taken out of context.

Might as well take it down. That thing just begs to be to farked with by rival fanbases. NAMBLA stickers on it, whatever.

I think they deserve a life sized statue of Sandusky right next to the Joe Pa one.

I love watching them. They bought into a cult of personality that has completely collapsed around them.

Everything Paterno ever clained to stand for is a lie. Everything. PSU's entire identity is a lie, wrapped in lube, shoved up some poor kid's ass. They have nothing. They ARE nothing. They are valueless as human beings. Their university and town will forever be known as a haven for a child molester and his apologists, and the more they deny, the broader the impact and recognition of this.

If this didn't involve the suffering of children, I'd relish watching the misery of these shiatstains

JOOOOOOOOOPAAAAAAAAAAA!

I noticed that Suq Madiq, Jr. has not yet weighed in on this issue. Perhaps he should.

2012-07-16 10:05:43 AM
And one more thing--

Remember when Sandusky did the interview with Costas? Remember how incredulous you were at his responses, how a man could so obviously be guilty and not feel a speck of shame or remorse? Remember how he couldn't even answer the question, "Did you molest children?"?

THIS IS WHY. THIS COMMUNITY. THIS REVERENCE. HE COULDN'T COME UP WITH EXCUSES OR A DEFENSE BECAUSE FOR FIFTEEN YEARS HE NEVER HAD TO.

Hey, I think they should do that in protest of the statue's removal, actually.

Nothing of value would be lost.

What happens when these kids all sue, and PSU's insurance won't pay because these were intentional acts that the University had knowledge of?

Bye bye, endowment.

2012-07-16 10:37:38 AM
My family lived in State College for 25 years and I never met anyone who treated Paterno as a god. Just because it's repeated by every sports talking head doesn't make it so. Outside of game day and the souvenir shops, Paterno wasn't all that present in day to day life

2012-07-16 10:40:43 AM
For the record, the people calling for the death penalty are just as stupid as the people calling for the statue to be kept.

This is outside the purview of the NCAA - no matter how much the NCAA and the angry mob would like it to be.

2012-07-16 10:40:47 AM
"We are Penn State, and we will honor the dishonorable!"

They just don't get it. What Paterno did was so despicable it erases all the "good" things he did. Once again, NOBODY at Penn State seems to care bout those poor kids who were preyed upon, and Paterno LET him do it for 14 years.
