Johnny Bananapeel: Saw this in the toy store when I was a wee bairn:

Wow, I think I had one of those. As a before being able to remember anything. It is bringing back memories of those little plastic dinosaurs that you would melt into plastic rectangles, and they would somehow return to the dinosaur shape somehow.

Enemabag Jones: In the early 90's there were squirt guns that launched out this thickened water goo. I think the commercials lasted on tv one week.

Along with those vibrating Harry Potter broom, those were epic bad ideas.

I have one of those Harry Potter brooms. It was a birthday gift from a family member. I've never taken it out of the packaging, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intimidated by its powers of "swooping" vibraton.

Poldana: RatMaster999: Sweet Xenu! I had this one...the damned thing still haunts my nightmares... You turned the crank and it would play "Pop Goes the Weasel" until that grinning motherfarker lunges out and tries to tear out your soul.

Thank you. I was beginning to think I was the only kid to be terrorized by that thing.

Nope. I had one too.

I always felt like I was supposed to be having fun with it, but I never much liked the adrenaline over-dump that ensued at some random point during "Pop Goes the Weasel".

/still can't hear that song without bracing myself

No, it's ChooChooBear....

Gyrfalcon: Also, most of these are not "creepy" as much as they are "old and broken." I was hoping for the deadly toys that seared our souls and were actually sold on the open market.

The only one that really qualifies is that stupid cymbal-banging monkey.

I cannot look at one of those monkeys without thinking about that one Stephen King story called, appropriately, "The Monkey." Ding ding ding! Who's dead now...?

/Perhaps a good pair of chattery teeth would protect me from such horrors.

You're welcome.

Stephen King did it before Borgnine, 1978 and 1996, respectively.

But Stephen King did not have Rock and Roll Martian, did he?

FishyFred: A couple of members of our production team were looking around and one of them pulled from the water an ashen, eroded baby doll head with the torn, washed-out fabric of its clothes hanging off of it.

it also had a human skull under the decomposing skin. Incredible realism for a toy.

OOoohh, I think I still have one at the parent's place. It's in the basement so the liquid inside hasn't dried out. IIRC, the head snaps apart, and some weird disc can be inserted. You can look through the back of his head through a hole in one of his eyes... Weird.

#22 was probably sewn together by Ed Gein. Probably filled with teeth and the exterior is dyed bloodstained women's underpants.

My mom weirded out years ago and got into this sort of thing. There's like half a dozen life-size child dolls around the place.

It's extra odd because she wasn't exactly the tender, nurturing kind of mom.

Kinda gives me this kinda vibe, actually.

The kitty meows, opens and closes its eyes and mouth, moves its ears, turns its head, lays back, and raises a paw to lick and clean itself. Dear god that's wrong.

Actually the whole line of "Fur Real" animatronic "pets" elicits a LOT of "kill it... kill it WITH FIRE!!" reactions. There's a lot of lifelike animals in that line, too.

When I was in NYC, I found a wind-up stuffed bear in the trash. I took it home for some reason. It had this action that was supposed to turn the pages of a book, but the book was missing. His spine had been detached, so his head was hanging forlornly. As a result, when you wound him up, he'd just keep smacking his head, making it flop and gyrate. I called him "The Bear of Woe." I gave him to a friend.

The hospital here has a touch-sensitive "robotic cat" for the dementia patients to play with. Looks pretty realistic apart from the dead, staring eyes. And when I visited, its batteries were wearing out. So when I touched it, it made this long, drawn-out, unhealthy-sounding kinda wail/moan that will haunt my nightmares until the day I die.

/kill it with fire
