If the fellow is blind, how'd he know they were wearing yellow and orange safety vests and hats?

/Just sayin'.

Police say to check the IDs of utility workers. Do they really expect blind people to read an ID card?

Yes, I know legally blind means eyesight a whole lot better than totally blind. But no legally blind person can be expected to read an ID card or compare a face to a picture.

How dare this man attempt to harm these poor souls who are only trying to provide for their families. What would have happened if he had hurt one of them. Let this be a lesson to all not to try to take matters into your own hands, let the police sort out these situations.

True. I guess he was "legally blind", or not blind at all.

After all, he also walked his dog and led the guys to his gas meter. Those are actually harder things to do if you're really blind that waving a pot around trying to hit people near you and calling out for help

But whatever makes the story more sensational.

I don't see what the big deal is. Surely the blind guy was two-armed too...

What's that about justice being blind an all? And what are his attacker's fark handles? At any rate I bet it was quite a seen.

I hope they find the perpetrators and put them away for a long time. Impersonating utility workers to get inside the house and then ganging up on an old man. Ten or twenty years in prison, as well as the humiliation of being exposed as inept burglars who terrorize old people, would be a good start.

When they catch and convict thugs like this, they need to be taken out, tortured and then executed and stuck up on a pike old style.

If Jesus Christ himself showed up at my door with ID and healed lepers at 6:45 am, you can be damned sure I'm not letting him in my house

As some point in life, after your body has gone to hell, your family has effectively abandoned you, and your closest friends and loved ones have all died, all that's left is waiting for death. Then some punks try to rob you of the small amount of dignity you have left. What do you have to lose? What's the worse the bastards can do? Kill you? Going out fighting sounds a hell of allot better than slowly wasting away.

What did he do that was heroic?

He got robbed, got stunned, had a gun in his mouth and he knocked it away and ran.

Then he screamed like a little girl so the robbers left.

// Not exactly a ninja.

Big brass balls must be good at conducting electricity. Hit several times by a stun gun and didn't go down. They were brass alright.

Self preservation beyond typical abilities of an elderly blind person.

FTFA: "Robbery detectives urged residents to check the identification of utility workers before allowing them into their homes."

But if they are blind, how can they?

This to me was the best part of the story. That is really what caused them to flee. To have the wits to say this after being assaulted and injured shows that this guy was smart as well as having cold blue steel ones.

Police said one of the men stuck a gun in his mouth while the other yelled, "Shoot him, shoot him.

This sentence had me laughing for several minutes, while it is obvious what the author intended, English does not always work that way. My mental image is of one of the 'gun men' with the gun in his own mouth, while his buddy is yelling 'Shoot him, shoot him.' I can't stop laughing at that image.

Good on victim. Apparently there are some tough elderly people in Pittsburgh.

I pictured Bugs saying to Daffy, "You keep quiet. He doesn't have to shoot you now."
