2). Renewed appreciation for knee highs.

Good.

Now, if only week one had bombed, Marvel might have gotten Spidey back.

They were going to put the Oscorp building in Avengers but it wasn't designed in time for the skyline rendering.

Oh the knee high sock thing was.. just ... awesome. Did not buy her as a high school student because of her low smoky voice but .. god damn I would plow her.

You can't reboot a franchise if the high school freshmen who saw the last movie in the franchise haven't graduated from college yet and are seeing the reboot.

Kids' movies always do really well in the summer. The kids are out of school still, plus it's really hot in most areas of the country, so the parents take them to a movie where they can sit in an air-conditioned theater and have their kids be entertained for a couple hours.

I saw the new spiderman and enjoyed it a great deal. Much better than Spiderman 3, but that's not really hard.

2012-07-16 12:26:15 AM
I saw the reboot and it made me want to check my mail and wonder if I was missing any good threads on Fark. After they spent more than an hour on an origin story that didn't add anything to the story that every human on the planet knows, they had to have him spend another 45 minutes on the phone. At first I thought it was an insult to our intelligence that they added that dipshiat voiceover to remind us that the guy had a star tat on his wrist but then I realized that even the producers expected everyone to be basically napping through the origin story so no one would have noticed it.

The Spider Man name and the insane levels of hype for this film bought it a good opening week. Good for it.

Word of mouth is going to slide it into its rightful place beside Daredevil in the annals of Marvel films.

WHY

platedlizard: Wait, they rebooted the series?

WHY

Because Sony is desperate to hold onto the rights to the franchise.

Saw it.

Not impressed. And this from a life-long Spidey fan who refuses to read DC Comics because of lousy/boring characters.

It was a pointless film. Two hours after leaving the theatre, you have a hard time remembering details about it. If any movie deserves to bomb, it's this one.

2012-07-16 04:50:57 AM
The Ice Age films are very popular in South Korea. Most American action and CGI movies do pretty well here, but Ice Age and the Madagascar series are much more popular than the Pixar films.

Always interesting what other countries seem to enjoy.

That's what I thought. Studio chiefs would kill to get that kind of return on investment.

I thought it was just okay, but it's already made more than half a billion worldwide. Sony is going to make another one.

I don't know. Better than 3? Definitely, and about on par with 1. But I still think Raimi's part 2 was about as pitch perfect as this franchise will get.

2012-07-16 05:57:19 AM
As I said in the opening weekend thread. Was enjoyable enough, but was disappointed that they didn't give us a proper first perspective web swinging scene considering that it was shown in 3D. Any time they teased it, almost immediately cut to another angle.

Headline: Spider-Man goes from Amazing to Lackluster in its second week at the box office

Article (emphasis mine): Sony's successful The Amazing Spider-Man 3D reboot came in at around $35M this North American weekend with a good -44% hold and a domestic cume passing $200M sometime Sunday. Spidey's global cume is now $521.4M with Sony confident it will end up around $800M...There's no doubt this Spider-Man franchise restart with another origins story for Marvel's most popular character is a success...

Just because you want the movie to do poorly doesn't mean it actually did poorly.

Next weekend's drop will be more telling. Real competition comes out with TDKR and I think a 60-70% drop isn't out of the question.

Oh Fark you never fail to dissapoint. This new spiderman was fantastic, better yet Amazing! I admit I also felt it was a little too soon from the last 3 and I think that's where all the hate is.

But! Wasn't Batman Begins also made only 8 years after the last bat fail which we will not name (much on par with spidey 3). It was also a lackluster start with an opening weekend of about $50 million and had a 43 percent drop from its first week to second week.

So let's pull our thumbs out of Nolan's butt and admit this was a good farking movie. :)

I know you'll be accused of trolling, but this is how my wife feels about it as well and she's a huge fan of the Bat. Incorrect.

Batman Begins was a much-needed fresh take on a franchise that had been beaten into the ground with ridiculousness.

Spider-Man 3 was awful, but this reboot is just to hold on to rights. SM1 and 2 were great films. They could've arguably come back with a very competent SM4. But instead they "rebooted" it with actors who portray the characters all wrong. It forced, and terrible, and boring. It's a world of difference than the Batman thing. And this is coming from a guy who doesn't think TDK was that great a film.

Amazing Spider-Man did an awful job. Peter Parker is kind of a dick, he never really invents anything in the movie and just borrows stuff from other people, like the webbing from Oscorp. He can't keep his secret identity a secret as by the end several people know he's Peter Parker, the Lizard's motives just don't make sense at all, and he makes a promise to Mary Jane's dying father to stay away from his daughter, then lets everyone know he plans on breaking that promise right away.

No matter what cable news tells you not all opinions are equal. Some people just have bad taste and deserve to be mocked instead of engaged. When a movie is critically acclaimed and commercially successful the small group who dislike it can be safely ignored.

Carth: No matter what cable news tells you not all opinions are equal. Some people just have bad taste and deserve to be mocked instead of engaged. When a movie is critically acclaimed and commercially successful the small group who dislike it can be safely ignored

Remember kids, if you don't like a superhero movie as much as other people liked it, your opinion is worthless. Don't stray from the herd.

Sorry, guys. I was just so excited when I heard the news. Well, I guess there's no reason for any of us to watch this movie now. Bummer.

Duck_of_Doom: Wasilla Hillbilly Just confirmed: Bruce Wayne is The Batman

Who's whining? I thought DK dragged in the final third. Lots of people did. I also think ASM was fine. It wasnt as good as Spidey 1 or 2, but was better than Spidey 3 by a hell of a lot, and looked farking spectacular (no pun intended)

I guess I'm ready to be culled...

Didn't seem like the person you were responding to was whining or asking for the studio to cater to his interests.

The 4 Ice Age movies have made $2.3 billion dollars worldwide and counting. Why wouldn't they keep making them? Afterall, like the great Joe Dirt said, "It's not what you like, it's the consumer."

You know that would be kind of cool. That way Peter falls for MJ because she reminds her of Gwen!
Always cracked me up that "one of the great comic love stories" was about a boy and the runner up. It was made funnier when they turned her into a supermodel/actress. Yeah you're worth millions and you're super hot, and you're still his second choice.

I'm torn with the new Spider-Man.

The new Spidey with the mask on is a lot better than Toby. He's a trash talker and has a younger voice. I also had my doubts about shooters, but they executed it nicely.

As Peter Parker though? I'm suppose to believe that dude is an outcast?

Emma saved this movie just by being in it. Whether you liked it or not, this movie was better with her as Gwen Stacy.

The Lizard/Voldermort CGI sucked. Redeemed by being Connors.

I did not care for their replacement of Uncle Ben and Aunt May. The original ones where better.

No "With Great Power comes Great Responsibility" line is a damn shame. A DAMN SHAME I tell you.

Plot holes aplenty but regardless it wasn't as bad as I figured.

Overall it was ok, it was just too bad that you know Marvel could've done a way better job.

Of course I saw it (and haven't had Internet for weeks)...

Sweet JESUS it was AWFUL. Really, truly, remarkably awful. I have no idea what in the Hell Sony was thinking making that steaming pile of drek.

Second point of observation: You shoulda' listened to the fans and just made a Spider-Man vs. Venom movie, followed by Carnage in the second and ending with Kaine and Anti-Venom. Just ignore the '60s and '70s, because it DID NOT age well in comparison to the Superhero movies coming out now.

/Batman learned this. Sorry, Spidey - they screwed you again.

That there is why the fans don't run movie companies. Soryy, but that sounds like flop, bigger flop, Ishtar reborn flop.
