1) it was a really great fun movie

2). Renewed appreciation for knee highs.

I didn't enjoy Spiderman The Remake.

MadSkillz: I didn't enjoy Spiderman The Remake.

I enjoyed Emma Stone, the amazing High-Security Access High School Intern.

Good.

Now, if only week one had bombed, Marvel might have gotten Spidey back.

They were going to put the Oscorp building in Avengers but it wasn't designed in time for the skyline rendering.

Oh the knee high sock thing was.. just ... awesome. Did not buy her as a high school student because of her low smoky voice but .. god damn I would plow her.

You can't reboot a franchise if the high school freshmen who saw the last movie in the franchise haven't graduated from college yet and are seeing the reboot.

Kids' movies always do really well in the summer. The kids are out of school still, plus it's really hot in most areas of the country, so the parents take them to a movie where they can sit in an air-conditioned theater and have their kids be entertained for a couple hours.

I saw the new spiderman and enjoyed it a great deal. Much better than Spiderman 3, but that's not really hard.

2012-07-16 12:26:15 AM
I saw the reboot and it made me want to check my mail and wonder if I was missing any good threads on Fark. After they spent more than an hour on an origin story that didn't add anything to the story that every human on the planet knows, they had to have him spend another 45 minutes on the phone. At first I thought it was an insult to our intelligence that they added that dipshiat voiceover to remind us that the guy had a star tat on his wrist but then I realized that even the producers expected everyone to be basically napping through the origin story so no one would have noticed it.

The Spider Man name and the insane levels of hype for this film bought it a good opening week. Good for it.

Word of mouth is going to slide it into its rightful place beside Daredevil in the annals of Marvel films.

Wait, they rebooted the series?

...

WHY

platedlizard: Wait, they rebooted the series?

WHY

Because Sony is desperate to hold onto the rights to the franchise.

2012-07-16 04:42:16 AM
Saw it.

Not impressed. And this from a life-long Spidey fan who refuses to read DC Comics because of lousy/boring characters.

It was a pointless film. Two hours after leaving the theatre, you have a hard time remembering details about it. If any movie deserves to bomb, it's this one.

2012-07-16 04:50:57 AM
The Ice Age films are very popular in South Korea. Most American action and CGI movies do pretty well here, but Ice Age and the Madagascar series are much more popular than the Pixar films.

Always interesting what other countries seem to enjoy.

I thought the new spiderman movie was SIIIIIIIIIIICCCCCCKKKKKKKK

I'm a total spiderman fanboy, though. I really enjoyed the whole thing, and can't wait for a sequel. Weee!!!!

Yeah, the studio thinks it's only going to make $800M. Laaaack-luster, alright.

hear hear. they will keep shiatting those movies out, no matter how bad they are just to keep the license.

Im half expecting Fox to put together a FOxvengers with a team up of all your favorite heroes, daredevil, Elektra, blade, ghost rider ( is he at sony or fox ) fantastic four and Wolverine!

Dr.Zom: Yeah, the studio thinks it's only going to make $800M. Laaaack-luster, alright.

That's what I thought. Studio chiefs would kill to get that kind of return on investment.

I thought it was just okay, but it's already made more than half a billion worldwide. Sony is going to make another one.

I'm on vacation this week. Just might see Spider Man, but I'm still undecided.

Blade is New Line, so Warners owns it.

Amazing Spider-man was better then any of the first three. IMHO

That might be true (I kind of doubt it) but there's no way I'm paying to sit through the origin story again.

I don't know. Better than 3? Definitely, and about on par with 1. But I still think Raimi's part 2 was about as pitch perfect as this franchise will get.

He and Ms. Jemima share a passionate scene that shows us all what "making love" truly is.

2012-07-16 05:53:17 AM
Why would you do that?

2012-07-16 05:57:19 AM
As I said in the opening weekend thread. Was enjoyable enough, but was disappointed that they didn't give us a proper first perspective web swinging scene considering that it was shown in 3D. Any time they teased it, almost immediately cut to another angle.

Headline: Spider-Man goes from Amazing to Lackluster in its second week at the box office

Article (emphasis mine): Sony's successful The Amazing Spider-Man 3D reboot came in at around $35M this North American weekend with a good -44% hold and a domestic cume passing $200M sometime Sunday. Spidey's global cume is now $521.4M with Sony confident it will end up around $800M...There's no doubt this Spider-Man franchise restart with another origins story for Marvel's most popular character is a success...

Just because you want the movie to do poorly doesn't mean it actually did poorly.

2012-07-16 07:21:49 AM
Spiderman has raked in over 500 million worldwide already. I'm sure the wheels are already turning on a sequel.

Nope. Marvel got Blade back from New Line right around the same time that Lionsgate lost The Punisher.

This. It had a smaller than average second weekend drop, is financially doing pretty well and is pretty well liked by the majority that have seen it. Hate on it all you want Fark, it ain't a bomb.

The Stealth Hippopotamus: 1) it was a really great fun movie

2). Renewed appreciation for knee highs.

Double this. I thought I had already had all the dirty thoughts about Emma Stone that I could have, but those knee-high shots made me realize that I'd only scratched the surface.

Next weekend's drop will be more telling. Real competition comes out with TDKR and I think a 60-70% drop isn't out of the question.

Pixar made a movie about Rebecah Brooks.

Are you referring to the number of theatergoers who will fall asleep in the third hour of The Dark Knight Returns?

So Sony Pictures Entertainment chairman Amy Pascal and vice chairman Jeff Blake deserve kudos for taking a commercial risk.

Wat. The new Spiderman movie was about as commercial and hollow a product that they could have made.

The reviews have started to roll in for TDKR over at Rotten Tomatoes and they are stellar. For all of you who have been thus far 'meh' about TDKR, your expectations are seemingly limited by your own meager imagination.

The new Spider-man was the Jay Leno of movies. It wasn't offensive enough to make people want to leave and you completely forgot it an hour after you left the theater.

Meh, not even Bane could entice met o see a new Batman movie, not after the suck fest that was the last movie. Yeah, yeah, yeah, everyone but me loved Heath Ledgers Joker, where as I thought it was the worst one yet.

About 1/2 through the Dark Knight I almost walked out, but stayed hoping it would get better, sadly it did not.

I didn't hate it as much as you did, but I fell asleep both in the theater and at home when the brother-in-law rented it. Too long by a half hour at least.

The movie takes a terrible dive in script quality right around the 'PROPERTY OF PETER PARKER' point.

There is no Macho Man Randy Savage in this origin story, so I'm not going.
