Ok, This will not end well.

I know a few hundred people who would gladly show up in response.

There are contemptible scumbags that deserve not one iota of human compassion, that deserve nothing but pain and misery in their lives for their many many morally disgusting crimes. People who cannot even truly be called human any longer because they are just so vile and worthless to the human experience, for when they die the world will become noticeably better.

And then there are the Phelps.

I have this secret wish, that when Fred Phelps dies there is a moment of consciousness, that he dies and his brain is capable of processing the fact that there is nothing. It pains me to know he will die thinking heaven awaits, I want him to KNOW. He is the one man that I actively wish death upon. I guess I have to include his extended family now, whom I once had pity for being in a brainwashing cult, as they're actively continuing his work in his old age.

These un-christian nominal Christians might serve a purpose. They demonstrate how the best effort of centuries of progress in civil law and the courts can be exploited for gain by those who have no moral guidance and no compassion or compunction and a law degree. There is no law or system of justice or morality that can work when its practitioners, in this instance these lawyers and phony churchmen become utterly cynical and devoid of compunction. If there is a definition of evil, this "church" must come pretty close to being definitive.

Besides Sly himself obviously being there, at MINIMUM the Governator and Bruce Willis will also be there. Assuming that other cast members from The Expendables franchise show up, what could possibly go wrong?

/Chuck Norris may be a fundamental Christian, but that will not stop him from roundhouse kicking Fred Phelps so hard, the ISS has to move out of the way

2012-07-16 01:26:31 AM
What should happen is that Stallone rips them all apart with his own hands. They have earned it. Would any juror find him guilty of a crime? I would not if I was on that jury.

I hope you understand that these guys aren't really superheroes. They're also pretty old. In all likelihood, the funeral procession will pass by the protestors and nothing will happen.

I farking love the WBC. They take religious bigotry to it's natural conclusion.

Or the counter protesters will show up en-masse and completely block the funeral from seeing the Phelps clan. The worst thing in the world for these nutjobs is not being noticed. They want you to hit them, they want the cops to order them to move, that's how they make their money, by suing everyone they can. So by just standing in front of them, and blocking their view with larger signs and more people, they can't do anything except pack up and go home.

Or do like we do in Canada.. not let them across the border.

I wish I could believe that these people got this hatred from just their religion. I think they get it from their desire for money. It would be so nice to just believe that religion got them where they are today, but I think they're ordinary trolls who want someone to assault them so they can sue everyone.

I think if anyone were to fall for it but didn't want to be sued, they should invest in water guns. Just show up wherever they are and shoot them with harmless spring water. In the groin.

Good luck naming a tort on that one. You could press charges, but no way could you sue anyone for it. And who wouldn't settle for 10 bucks provided that they got to shoot the Phelps in the crotch with a super soaker?

Stallone is too rich and the Phelps clan is too eager to sue. He's smart enough not to try anything.

Now, if Mickey Rourke and some of his biker friends show up, they really don't have much to lose, so all bets would be off.

They're trolls, and they're going to continue to troll as long as people continue to bite.

And they welcome violent attacks, because they can then launch lawsuits.

Phelps' children, at least the ones that didn't run away, are all lawyers and have a firm in Kansas. Fred was a lawyer until he was disbarred.

They do serve one useful purpose though. They test the boundaries of the first amendment and as reprehensible as they are, that's still a good thing.

I recall reading something written by (I believe) a son of Phelps who left. He essentially said that Phelps is the epitome of violence and abuse. That he beat the crap out of his kids until they were big enough to hit back, and then taught them to hate. It was really sad.

Do not protest them. Do not counter-protest them. Do not do anything.

There is nothing that can be done by any person, group, media, government, documentary filmmaker or news broadcast team to improve our understanding or relations with this Church, nor is there anything anyone can say to discredit, denounce or sway them. Giving them more attention is like wrestling with a pig - you feel dirty afterward and the pig likes it.

It's just futile to interact with them on any level. The only recourse is to ignore them.

2012-07-16 03:12:47 AM
Can we please start picketing these bastards back? I've never picketed in my life, but I think it would be epic to picket one of their kids' graduations and then be like "I'm sorry, what? This event is none of my business and I should leave your family out of our policy disagreements? Hmm..."

I disagree. At some point, they will run afoul of private property laws or, God willing, Stand Your Ground. That is when I will chortle heartily at the retarded irony.

The WBC are attention-whores who feed off of the response they get from pissing people off, both financially and emotionally. They know that what they're doing is universally abhorred. That's why they do it. By paying attention to them and getting angry you are giving them power over you and giving them exactly the response they want.

You know how they actually make their money? ...for signs and protests n such? ...they're all lawyers. I'm not joking. They know exactly the letter of the law and they know how to straddle it deftly, and they know how to sue anyone who doesn't know it.

Odd thought just crossed my mind: Do they have insurance policies? Or rather, could they have insurance policies taken out on them, maybe without them knowing it, by the guy who keeps sending them out there?

Why do news orgs give these maybe half a dozen people any press whatsoever? They give less press to 1,000+ gathering Occupy protests.

Fred Phelps himself is old and feeble and rarely goes out on protests anymore. The whole show is pretty much run by his daughter Shirley now, and she is a tornado of a woman. Anyone interested in how this cult operates should look into Louis Theroux's documentaries on The Most Hated Family in America. After watching them, you realize that this group of people are quite simply beyond reason or rehabilitation. There's nothing left we can learn from them theologically, personally or psychologically. Our only recourse is to simply leave them alone.

To answer your question, tho: I have no idea, but I would assume so.

I don't find myself getting that upset about WBC any more, it's just not as shocking to see them picket another funeral.

But, the link to the left about the "God Particle" made me angry.
Mission accomplished, religious website.

WBC better be careful, this isn't just some disposable soldier we're talking about. This is a celebrity event. You know celebrities can do pretty much whatever they want and get away with it.

I believe you're referring to Nathan Phelps who is, fittingly, a gay rights activist. He's persona non grata with the family, and the feeling is mutual.

He also talks about it on his website.

I read something about him a year or so ago. So guys, when Fred dies, a little respect. The line to piss on his grave starts behind Nathan Phelps. He's earned the first shot.

Sometimes I wonder if they'll even let the public know he's died. If they had any sense I would keep it secret as long as possible. But since they're always looking for a payday they'll probably do it in the hopes they can sue some people who assault them.

In a weird sorta way, I have to respect the WBC...

I mean, we just troll threads anonymously. They troll real life. It takes a certain insane courage to do that.

Plus, I hear they make a ton of money from their various lawsuit settlements.
