Still more change needed?

media.mcclatchydc.com

Yeah, but 2010 was a pretty good start.

Coelacanth: I'm an atheist, but I really hope there's a Hell waiting for the people who got that guy hooked on whatever did that to him.

I've been offered hard drugs and alcohol many times. I said no, and never got hooked.
I know, that slut Nancy Reagan made, "Just Say No" look stupid. But it really works.

/I said yes to the soft drugs. And coffee.

whidbey: Honestly, if you don't believe that Obama hasn't all but held this country together in the past 4 years while achieving some remarkable accomplishments, please. Find a pain stick or something.

He's been alright. The Republic is a pretty robust entity, though. Even with a few decades of GOP malfeasance, we're hanging in there.

Yeah, and just imagine what a crybaby he'll be with a GOP-controlled house, and a filibuster-proof senate. Hard to imagine what a blubbering fool he'll become. I guess we'll just have to watch and see.

Another problem is that Republicans think that John Wayne was actually tough, rather than just pretending to be for a paycheck. They live for crap like that. With a flag in the background!

In the real world, people like Mel Brooks went to Europe to fight the Nazis.

Well, that's the best part. Wayne dodged the draft while noted liberals Clarke Gable, Jack Lemmon, Walter Matthau, and Mel Brooks all stepped up. Mel even kicked ass in the Battle of the Bulge.

That's right. Governor Lapetomane has a bigger set than the Duke ever did.

The president got everything he wanted in the first 2 years of office, has the senate blocking any so-called derp coming out of the house and has a court which sided with him on his healthcare bill.

Does he need a majority of governors, a supermajority in the senate and house as well as a 9-0 majority in the court, as well as a repeal of the 22nd amendment before we finally give this guy a fair shake at what he wants?

Gotta take a little issue with that statement. Do you not remember how long it took to get Al Franken sat? Did you know Joe Lieberman had left the Democratic Party and wasn't even always caucusing with the Democrats? Do you have any recollection at all how long it took to get anything related to health care done?

In no way, shape, form, or fashion is it fair to say "Obama had two years of filibuster-proof majority, why didn't he do EVERYTHING he wanted to do then?"

Just a couple days ago your unofficial leader was screaming about how help for those in need is the reason things are so terrible. "Herp, nobody wants a job cuz it so good on unemployment, derp." Just stop already; everyone is laughing at you.

John Wayne was an awful man. He went after a pregnant hippy woman during an anti-Vietnam War protest and stomped on her belly until she miscarried.

Lost Thought 00: We are unequivocally in a better place than we were 4 years ago, even if you renormalize to discount coming out of the recession

The problem is that the pants-shiatting economic terror that was 2008 (Bear, Lehman, WAMU, Countrywide, credit lockups, discussions of liquidating the entire US car industry, old-fashioned bank runs in England threatening to come here) is now part of the 'undifferentiated past' with Ronald Reagan, bell-bottoms, and WWII to so many voters.

It is funny because Obama said it first.

I think you are missing the irony. Look at how many more unemployed and homeless ther are now compared to 3 years ago. Not to mention more on food stamps. Then you consider how democrats advocate to end homeless less and Obama's epiphany, it is funny. Well, kind of sad but this is FARK.

You should have seen the homeless during the Reagan years. What you're seeing now is the results of ordinances republican led city councils are passing that are closing down soup kitchens and prohibiting people from sleeping on park benches, etc...

That's the point. During the 80's, the democrats were all over the homeless. Even to the point of giving them boxes and carts. Where is the left outrage? Crickets chirping. Only until Jan 2013 when Romney is sworn in.

More people are out of work. More people are on food stamps. More people are homeless. That's why there are beggars on every corner. Thanks democrats!

And Rmoney is going to change this how?

A president doesn't always get what he wants and he shouldn't require a filibuster proof majority else he takes his ball and goes home. He also extended the Bush tax rates and the patriot act during his first term when he had ample political capital to change them.

Lost Thought 00: We are unequivocally in a better place than we were 4 years ago, even if you renormalize to discount coming out of the recession

It is easy for the president to give himself the benefit of the doubt when it comes to the economy and staving off the recession. Where could we be had GM and Chrysler emerged from lawful bankruptcy, with their bondholders deciding the fate of the company? Where could we have been had housing been able to correct itself without having the public shoulder the burden of the bad assets? Nobody can really be sure of what things may have been but I think it is a bit presumptuous to give the president an A+ when none of us have a crystal ball

The guy implied you rode the short bus to school... Your first reaction was to imply that he raped his daughter...

Just think about that for a minute. While his wasn't the pinnacle of human intellectual power, yours was evidence of a disturbed individual who thinks about things like people raping their daughters.

Essentially his comment was about you... and your comment (unintentionally or not) is saying a lot more about you than you would probably like at this point.

Perhaps you would like to retroactively not say something quite so revealing about yourself?

You idiot, he made an outlandish false premise, and I was demonstrating how outlandish it was by over-outlandishing him with a counter false premise to illustrate the nature of his logical fallacy, which even he himself recognized in his later post.

Perhaps you would like to retroactively put your hand back down when the teacher asks you if you'd like to reveal what an idiot you are.

i'm better off than i was 4 years ago, but part of that was simply the fact that i was straight out of college 4 years ago and was working whatever i could get, i was largely immature with money and being dragged down by stuff like a money pit car, etc.

but i didn't even have a loan, so i can't imagine how people with mortgages handle this stuff, much less businesses that can't get access to cash because banks have gone frigid (i will find out one day)
