Accolade: I like some of their stuff.

Breaking the Habit is probably my favorite.

I think out of all their earlier stuff that Breaking the Habit has probably aged the best. Some of the B-sides are still pretty good too.

Good lord, when you have this many people telling you you're wrong, it ceases to be just a matter of opinion. Being a shiatty rap-metal fan is the musical equivalent of being a 9/11 truther.

linkin park isn't popular, and any grown up would be less likely to enjoy listening to them.

Lies subby, all lies.

/when I want to be angry I listen to Levellers

2012-07-16 03:26:25 AM
Damn, I almost feel sorry for subby now. Everyone hates this band that he likes.

You know that drummer impersonator from the main page who got busted scamming hookers?

He said he was the drummer from Linkin Park
/(also the drummer for Marilyn Manson and the bassist from Nickelback)
//not sure that says anything about any of their music but it might

Oh, goody! Is this the thread where we all get together and talk about how awesome a band's first one or two crappy albums were before they refined their sound and production techniques and got a major label contract and now everyone likes them so they suck? I love listening to people talk about how they liked a band more before they were cool!

No, really, it was an awesome conversation 30 years ago when people were using it to discuss Duran Duran; it's nice to know you kids are still having it today. Please, demonstrate how cool you are by hating a band for releasing an album at you.

/kids these days
//they play that farking song on a loop on the local "this music will piss off your parents" radio station
///I kind of like Linkin Park myself...

I listen to the Numb/Encore duet they did with Jay-Z regularly and never get tired of it.

2012-07-16 03:53:26 AM
I'm not a huge fan but I don't mind some of their stuff...I've always like Given Up (f bombs) One of those bands that I'll never buy but I'll listen if a song comes on the radio.

No, Linkin Park really was good until they got discovered. Hybrid theory was amazing. Meteora after that wasn't even that bad, but started going full pop. Nearly everything after that has been wanna-be U2 crapfest. Before that it was actually original.

Then again I'm sure most of the usual fark-elite aren't even old enough to remember the those albums and thus we get these typical non-conformist, uninformed opinions.

2012-07-16 04:14:00 AM
Musically, I like them (and that first disc wasn't horrible until that was ALL you heard on the radio - Dear Radio Stations, Oversaturation = Quickly sick of hearing it). Vocally, I'd like to chuck them into a meat grinder.

justtray: Then again I'm sure most of the usual fark-elite aren't even old enough to remember the those albums

Wut? Most of the Fark music elite are old enough to remember 8-tracks, and possibly their parents' wax-cylinder gramophones.

This is the only time when it's acceptable to listen to Linkin Park.

Uncle Pooky: Somebody behind the scenes is having some fun.

They're on to us... :)

I liked some pretty bad stuff when I was a teenager. But Christ, I hope that I had better taste than that. Really, guys...that fake angst doesn't make you misunderstood...everyone understands just fine that you're faking angst.

You shouldn't be responsible for what you listened to as a pimple faced, hormone monster, but surely you come to your senses as soon as you get to college and hear good music. So subby, grow up.

Squiggly_Person:
Micheal Bay vs Darren Aronofsky. Aronofsky is unarguably better at telling a story with the medium, better with characters, better with themes. Bay, however, is way better at giving an audience a quick thrill, knows how to make slick, sense-stimulating scenes, and is probably better at managing a gargantuan set. Which one is 'better'?

Aronofsky.

Linkin Park is simply a band that proves that a lot of money is enough to make you famous. These were kids who had parents willing to throw obscene amounts of money into their children's fantasies. Without the dough from their parents, they never would have made it anywhere.

With enough money and nothing but time, a good engineer could make ANYTHING sound good. Even Linkin Park.

That was like NIN with bigger pants.

cameroncrazy1984: GAT_00: The energy makes up for the emo, and some days you just want to listen to angry emo.

Respectfully, there are way better angry emo bands to choose from. Especially from that era. Hawthorne Heights and Brand New come to mind.

Hawthorne Heights? The "cut my wrists and black my eyes," guys? No.

As someone who went through an emo phase and still has a fondness for some of the music, there were bands much better than either Linkin Park or HH.

Taking Back Sunday, Brand New (kudos on that choice), Story of the Year, Bear vs. Shark, Bayside, Spitalfield, Thursday, Circle Takes Square, Chiodos, Blood Brothers, Funeral for a Friend, and many others were more talented and less cliche than Hawthorne Heights.

All the bands on the scene hated HH because they were high on their own greatness and had very little talent to back it up. Mostly they drifted into the scene whereas many of the bands above helped redefine it after acts like the Get Up Kids, American Football, the Promise Ring, Dashboard, etc. Screw those guys and their shiat songs about Ohio. But still, it was sad to hear about the death of their guitarist a few years back. The silver lining is, I believe, that they stopped making music together. So there's that.

Quiet part, check. Loud part, check. Loud part sung in a monotone, check.

How is this different from other songs?

They all sound like:

IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII"m so pissed at my Moooooooooooooooooommm.

I liked Hybrid Theory, and greatly enjoyed Meteora, then they quickly ran out of steam for me. They don't have much play for me outside of my workout playlists.

Linkin Park is an animated corpse carrying the torch other rap rockers like Limp Bizkit threw away a long time ago to an Olympics that should go to hell. There, I said, verbatim, what was on everyone's minds.

2012-07-16 07:51:47 PM
I thought this was going to be Paranoid, which was a halfway decent song by them. It made me think "Oh, they might be okay" when I first heard it. Then everything else by Linkin Park was systematically played for me (whether I wanted it or not) over the course of several years. During those years I took a lot of drugs and drank whiskey constantly.

Let me be a lesson to those who may be curious: Listening to Linkin Park is NEVER. THE. ANSWER.

LOL. I read that in Linkin Park's voice

I just Googled "Linkin Park Paranoid" only to discover the song is actually called Papercut.

fark Linkin Park.

I Have The Touch of a Shocked Monkey: Hey, I liked In The End!

Yeah, me too. Don't much care for any of their other songs, including this one.

This thread reminds me of why I was glad when the old music tab got axed. 99% of the comments on it were basically this:

3.bp.blogspot.com

If someone on the internet (not just Fark, everywhere) simply posts that their favourite colour is green, they instantly get shouted down by hundreds of pompous twats.

"Green??!!!1! No way! Blue is the BEEESSSTTT!!"
"Blue sucks ass. Fact. Purple is the shiznit!"
"Purple is kind of okay, I guess. But I have more refined tastes, so I prefer mauve. You've probably never seen it."

It's farking tiresome. Nobody has forced you to listen to the song, or even click on the link in the first place.

/that band you like is shiat

Oh boy oh boy. I better do what Fark says. Because if I don't listen to what all the cool kids listen to, something bad might happen.

Most people stopped giving a rats arse what you listen to when Pandora was invented. And internet piracy.

I like that "In the End" song. It's so easy to learn the words and sing along, because there's really only like 2 lines in the whole farking song and they just sing it over and over again. Who needs creative lyrics when we can just sing the same lines 12 times!

I can take or leave most of those bands, but War All The Time was a fantastic album.

vort3xxx: Their first album is among the worst recorded major label albums that this audio engineer has ever heard. None of the effects sound right and there is something dramatically wrong with the sound of the thing. The song that the poster linked to is wholeheartedly undesirable to my ears.

Even Merzbow sounds better to me.

You haven't heard Rush's Vapor Trails. Which is a good thing. Worst engineering and mixing ever, by anybody. If they want to re-release it as a re-master, they will have to re-record it first, because it's just farkin' awful.

/ Rush is off topic for "angry emo", but we were talking about dramatically wrong sound.

Actually they're still good, they just got over YOU and moved on.

Why don't YOU grow up now?
