It probably was the USA. The Muslim brotherhood is probably the best group to secure the Suez Canal for US use against Chinese, Indian, and Russian interests. Traditionally the USA helps dictatorships shiat on their own people if their foreign policy is to enhance US global strategy. The Muslim Brotherhood is probably totally okay with that. Like the Saudis and the various dictators of South America.
