As far as I'm aware, Knight, Bryant, Hayes, Schembechler, Spitzer or any of the other famous "asshat outside their fan base / saint inside it" had ever actively conspired to hide rape of minors on campus for 14 years at minimum. And as far as I'm aware, none of the fan bases of these schools has ever suggested they'd stay loyal if they had.

The thing that makes Penn State's fan base stand alone is the unswerving loyalty to Joe in the face of some pretty damning evidence, and the common sense (to the outsider) is that this loyalty above sense is itself a big part of the problem.

Sandusky did not rape boys on campus for over a decade (that we know of) without being enabled by people on campus, including the head coach.
