I don't think there's ever been a more clown-shoes Presidential candidate than Mitt Romney. There isn't a single aspect of his campaign that cannot be made better by Yakety Sax playing in the background.

I'm going to refer to the Romney Campaign as the Trailer Park Boys from now on. Seems fitting.

That would require releasing tax returns from those years to verify how much he earned from Bain.

Didn't the Obama SSN tax cut apply retroactively to the beginning of the year? He was retroactively against it before he was for it retroactively.

2012-07-15 07:08:40 PM
I can't help but think it would have been easier for Romney to come out and say he stopped actively participating in the management of Bain in 1999, though he remained the titular CEO until they found a successor in 2002.

If he had just done that we could forget about this in a few days instead of it being a huuuge issue for like two weeks.

2012-07-15 07:08:57 PM
George Romney's 1968 campaign was done in by an epic gaffe, and this one may do Mitt in.

2012-07-15 07:09:41 PM
Mitt, just get up on a podium and own it. You were Monty Burns. You lit the metaphorical match on each and every Bain destruction of a company, and you're damn proud of it. Drop the mic, rip off your shirt and throw it into the crowd.

How would that be any worse?

2012-07-15 07:09:52 PM
Bain subsidiaries did business with the Olympics. I wonder how many contracts he threw their way?

While conceding that Mr. Romney "legally" remained the firm's chief executive, Mr. Conard said he did not remember Mr. Romney's taking part in any meetings.

"I can't recall" is not a definite no. weasel words lawyers used to mislead and stay out of legal trouble.

2012-07-15 07:12:08 PM
This "retroactively" thing is taking off faster than etach-a-sketch and "not intended to be a factual statement"

I can't wait to see what happens next.

He's running from Bain's acquisition of Stericycle stock in November 1999.

And inside both Bain and the Romney campaign, there is a strong belief that either the Obama campaign or a Democratic ally wants to use another Bain investment against Romney late in the campaign but cannot do so with any credibility under the February 1999 departure scenario.
The investment in question: Stericycle, a medical waste company that, among other things, disposed of aborted fetuses.

How could the Stericycle investment be used against Romney?

Bain's involvement in a company that disposed of aborted fetuses could make a powerful final week direct mail piece or attack ad on Christian radio. And in a close election, turnout of the religious right is one of the keys to a Romney victory in November. (emphasis mine)

Romney has reason to be worried.  In fact, he should be very worried.
You see, if the Grey Global Group stock acquisition SEC filings were fairly easy for me to find...

Moreover, Bain Capital was, in fact, also directly part of the acquisition of Stericycle stock.

More importantly, this SEC filing represents W. Mitt Romney as "the sole shareholder, Chairman, Chief Executive Officer and President of BCI, BCP VI Inc., Brookside Inc. and Sankaty Ltd" (emphasis mine).  That pretty much speaks for itself--he's not only the chair, CEO, and president of Brookside, but also Bain Capital Investments ("BCI") and other the other Bain parties involved in the acquisition.  This kind of declaration is repeated over and over throughout the document.

Moreover, unlike many of the other SEC filings, including the SEC filings for the acquisition of Global-Tech Appliances that David Corn exposed three days ago, W. Mitt Romney actually signed this one:

Date: November 19, 1999             s W. Mitt Romney

                              -------------------------------------------

                              W. Mitt Romney

This is not merely some document formed by Brookside and signed on Romney's behalf by Dominic Ferrante, like the acquisition of the Grey Global Group stock or the Global-Tech Appliances stock were.
And he didn't just sign it once.   He signed it twice.

2012-07-15 07:14:59 PM
The Romney people were really hoping this would die over the weekend and it seems to have gained strength, like that funk in Seinfeld's car. I expect Romney to launch a Jerk Store counter-offensive come Monday.

I bet Obama used his time machine to buy non-dividend paying shares, wrest majority control in a stockholder's revolution, and outsource all those jobs. But, even if we are to assume Barack Obama IS cunning enough to usurp power in a company with one stockholder, that just adds to the reasons why he should remain President.

/I'm so confused

Mitt should just stand up and admit to running Bain. Just say that they were a business and their business was making money. Sometimes they bought companies that were in bad enough shape that the only way to make them profitable was to switch to cheaper foriegn labor. Then spin that into a spiel about how reducing regulations and government oppression will make the US a more business friendly land. Sell it not as shipping jobs overseas but instead as saving as many as you, or anyone possibly could have.

Pin the blame on Big Brother and move on, because absolutely no one is buying that you got paid $100,000 a year and told the SEC you were the big dick while at the same time having no idea or control of what was going on.

Retroactively retired--this is an oxmoron, emphasis on moron.

They are just digging themselves deeper into a hole of pity. But if it's retrocative maybe they're already in the grave and it's just a dog digging for bones?

The embarassing problems the GOP have caused themselves isn't limited to within America. The whole world is watching and guffawing. Lady Liberty needs to have her torch removed and elbow bent so she can do a facepalm.

And yes, Romney retroactively retired from Bain and theres nothing mysterious about it. He was just very low key and didnt make a huge deal of it, and who cares what the SEC says because theyve been overrated since Tebow left. Bottom line is we need to have King Pinhead Obama retroactively loose the 2008 election because he is literally the Mandarin candidate and is working to destroy America because he was actually concieved in Kenya and retroactively born there. So lets go to the polls, retroactively, and elect John Mccain, and he retroactively had a heart attack on election night, and therefore Governor Sarah Palin is now president. YoungSwedishBlonde: Haven't seen a campaign go down in flames so fast since Trollbama released his birth certificate and pulled the rug from under Trump.

And the truly amazing thing is that in this case, all Trollbama had to do was just ask questions! He never said Rmoney had committed a felony by lying on official SEC documents, he was just wondering out loud about the whole thing.

/and oh, sweet merciful crap was his hamstringing of Trump's campaign epic. He didn't just release the long-form birth certificate (also saying that he had "more important things to worry about"), but 3 days later he turned Trump into a laughingstock at the Correspondents Dinner
//and then on top of that, anyone who turned in to see the season finale of The Apprentice wound up not being able to see the last few minutes of the show because Obama had interrupted every TV show in the country to announce just what that important thing that he said he had to worry about was -- namely, sending a bunch of ninjas to kill an elderly dialysis patient and dump him into the ocean (and with the body, any hopes the GOP might have had at claiming he's weak on foreign policy, terrorism or national defense)

Her star is rising and she is now ready for the spotlight so prepare yourself because she has placed a bullseye (surveyors mark) on the White House and will be reelected in 2012 with Mitt Romney as VP, so this November vote Bush/Cheney.

And yes, Romney retroactively retired from Bain and theres nothing mysterious about it. Kome: "He was not involved in the day-to-day decisions. He wouldn't have had time," Gillespie said. "He left a life he loved to go to Salt Lake City to save the Olympics for the country he loves more, and somehow Chicago, in classic Chicago-style politics, the Obama campaign is trying to make this something sinister. It's not. It's patriotic and it's leadership."

Claiming that Mitt Romney single handedly saved the Olympics. That's... that's a special level of derp right there.

Wait, isn't hosting the Olympics a soshulizt plot? That's what I was hearing for about a month straight when Chicago was bidding to host a couple years back. "It'll destroy the city." "It'll ruin our economy." "Look at what it did to Greece."

Of course, the moment the winner was announced, and it wasn't Chicago, then we were all treated to a month of "herp derp, Nobambo can't even get the Olympics to come to Chicago."

I just can't keep up with the latest talking points.

The brilliant thing is that step by step Obama has made Romney disclaim all the experience that make him qualified to be President.

Romney was already pretending to never have been Governor of Massachusetts. He's a businessman! Who runs a business that he didn't have anything to do with. Then the Olympics... Going to see a lot of clips of John McCain laying into all the pork barrel waste that defined Salt Lake City in 2002.

They're nominating the one they all hate because they can't beat Obama in this era of full retard. Watch the next four years for a gradual shift back to sanity as they try to make a serious go of it in 2016.

In the future, 2016 GOP candidates will not have run this year because of the bloodbath.

That theory only flies if they had a hard right candidate out there. Romney was the most liberal of the major candidates. If you want to bring the party to sanity, you have to show that the derp show wasn't going to play on the national stage.

All Romney losing will do is cause the Tea Party whackos to say they need to run a "true conservative" in order to win.

Whether or not he lied is far from the most interesting aspect of this story.

It's the fact that Romney is actively trying to distance himself from his past as a corporate parasite as much as possible. He and his election team clearly understand that the longer Obama hammers him about his history of gutting American jobs, the more likely it is that he'll lose. Something tells me that this is just the beginning of a long line of farked up shiat that Romney has hidden.

It's strangely amusing because if there's one thing I'm sure of, it's that ole Mitt doesn't like being called out on his sociopathic behavior; especially by those contemptible middle class peons that he's supposed to be in charge of. It almost seems like this election is a case of the chickens coming home to roost; sins of the past finally catching up with a dirtbag who made his fortune by destroying the lives of decent hard-working folks.

Well, since President Obama is losing big-time to Romney in fundraising and super-big-money donors to SuperPAC's are trying to pretty much outright buy the Presidency, he has to show no mercy politically if he wants to get re-elected.

Any dirt he can get on Romney, he'll use. If Rmoney actually did screw up and do something that was technically a felony a decade ago, he'll use that for everything he's worth.

This election is going to be about can you outright buy the Presidency if you have enough money, even though you're deeply, seriously flawed as a candidate with a number of skeletons in your closet.

Hobodeluxe: He's running from Bain's acquisition of Stericycle stock in November 1999.
According to John King's article entitled "John King: Why is 1999 so important in 2012?":

You see, if the Grey Global Group stock acquisition SEC filings were fairly easy for me to find...
...so were the Stericycle stock acquisition SEC filings on November 22, 1999.  And they're a doozy.
First and foremost, Bain didn't aquire Stericycle.   Brookside Capital Partners Fund did, and David Corn has already outlined W. Mitt Romney's role in Brookside, as well as its relationship with Bain Capital, in "EXCLUSIVE: Romney Invested Millions in Chinese Firm That Profited on US Outsourcing".  Brookside is a subsidiary of Bain Capital.
That pretty much speaks for itself--he's not only the chair, CEO, and president of Brookside, but also Bain Capital Investments ("BCI") and other the other Bain parties involved in the acqu ...

He's running from every subsidiary of Bain he's the sole owner of. His tax returns would open a Pandora's box of each company, and the money flowing through them.

Karac: Mitt should just stand up and admit to running Bain.

He was a practical joker in college. He let his dog ride on the car. The horror! These sinister attacks are only being launched because the lib's realize Romney is a much stronger candidate than Osama, I mean Obama. Nationalized healthcare will lead to the early retirement of every doctor dooming us to apocalypse and the American people know this. They dont want Dear Leader cramming health care down are throats and making us bend over and grab are ankles. Gay sex. Her star is rising and she is now ready for the spotlight so prepare yourself because she has placed a bullseye (surveyors mark) on the White House and will be reelected in 2012 with Mitt Romney as VP, so this November vote Bush/Cheney.

Honestly, yeah. He would have admitted the open secret that corporate America is the new Aristocracy and a man can get paid 3 times your salary without even showing up, but if Americans were planning to get upset about how reprehensible our "capitalism" is we'd have done it a long time ago. Admitting he was given gobs of money for doing NOTHING might make his people (the aristocracy) look bad instead of just him, but it would not threaten his control of the base the way this does.

Thinking about it, he's technically correct. He's not been convicted, and if I follow the given details right, the statute of limitations has expired. So he's not a felon, but he hasn't denied having committed a felony.

Statute of limitations may save someone from the law, but "haha, I got away with it" won't fly well with voters.

It depends on what you get away with. If he punched a baby, for example, did the baby have it coming? Was it being a dick?

He could get away with it if people understand just what happened in the first place. If it's too complicated and won't fit in a sound byte, they may not care. "Don't vote for the baby puncher" is a lot easier to understand than "Don't vote for the guy who made some kind of statement to the SEC that..." and so on. If you can get what he did onto a bumper sticker, then it's an issue.

I'm an O-bot who's actively enjoying all the Schadenfreude here, but Romney actually did a very good job turning the olympics around. They were mired in scandal and debt and flailing miserably, and he cleaned everything up and made the whole thing run like a ruthless, effective machine. He really can't be faulted for that part of his resumé.

He cleaned it up by begging the federal government for hundreds of millions of dollars. Who's he going to get money from if he's President?

Two billion, according to McCain.

So, as President, he has done his part to run up the national debt, retroactively.

well, either the GOP is simply arrogant beyond belief OR they really don't see what Romney did as a problem....it kinda breaks both ways.

True enough. But if there's one thing South Park has taught me over the years, is even the numbskulls that vote Republican understand "they took our jerbs!" - Obama just has to play this up and casually mention that he killed the shiat out of Bin Laden and things should fall his way. While it might not win him any voters, I could see a lot of GOP'ers staying home instead of getting out there for Ol' Mittens.

Not to mention the Republicans have been trying to dial back the crazy after Palin lost them the Senate. That's the real reason Romney was chosen to win: he was a moderate that could (in theory) compete with Obama while throwing some red meat to the Base Tards. The Republicans are trying to backtrack from their Base's insanity and finding themselves unable to do so. This isn't a defense, but another reason why they had to back Romney. He was their only chance, and he was just as big a retard as the rest.

You really have to wonder at this point, if Mitt is regretting his decision to retire to the country for the weekend and let his staff go on autopilot...

He's very white, very put together... He's robo-candidate. Look at their other options. What choice did they have but "safe"? Now? Looking less safe by the hour.

the GOP should have said 'f*ck it' and went with santorum/gingrich. 'cause that would have ROCKED!

Ha! Imagine the trolls defending that ticket!!!

theorellior: Markoff_Cheney: or a simple synopsis will do.

We were riffing off of Rahm's commentary on Romney, we accused cameroncrazy1984 of being Rahm's alt, then suddenly 3BC comes in and starts playing this Socratic "I'm not a troll who's the troll" game, tries a reverse double-troll meta-backflip on LasersHurt, starts posting word salads, then someone narc'd to the mods, and the rest is only a fleeting read-write moment on a Fark server hard drive.

and purple dinosaur?
3BC running romney programs? they are glitchy as fark, coded fast and loose with no regard to memory usage.
+1 description. would WAT again.

Looking at his campaign, I'm starting to wonder if Romney micromanages everything or even bothers with actual campaign people. It's been noted that Mitt's using 'old friends' to run the show and that explains the collapse of his campaign and the numerous gaffes he's had.

Whether or not they admit it in public, a lot of conservatives know damn well how badly the American taxpayer got hosed as a result of the financial market's bullshiat leading up to the 08 crash.

It won't make some of them vote for Obama, but somewhere in the recesses of their reptilian brains, I think it makes them apprehensive about voting for Romney.

FTFY

Jeez, he can't even do that right.

He is seriously butthurt today. It looks like he cracked in the Obama Responds thread. I think he broke something in his tiny little mind.

He couldn't handle it when we called him out on his bullsh*t degree claim.

What's this "we" shiat? :)

Holy crap, I just read that thread. You really did light the fuse on that derpsplosion.

/I think now he should go all out and say he is the master of the universe.
