No, she looks very "White German". Spend some time in Middle American farm country, and you'll meet a fair number of women who look like that.

Did you look at her picture?

Would you care to come over here for a "discussion"?

Whatever. She sounds awesome. She's a former social worker, so she probably knows more than most of you about how troubled kids need to be treated, and she's also not going to take any shiat from anyone.

"What are you going to do, beat up and old woman?" *ass-kicking commences* "Seriously, though, I hope he can get his life together."

This woman rules. If she were an old, male veteran, that's what we would be talking about instead of her appearance or how she's too light on kids these days.

I have to correct myself. The two districts border each other, and this apparently happened on the street that separates West Seattle from that godawful White Center.

That's actually a pretty cool picture. In 1979 my basic training company was one of the first to be integrated with a platoon of female soldiers. Guess which platoon took the Marksperson award in my company. I attribute it to the fact that women are not born with full knowledge of guns weapons like guys are, and are actually willing to listen to instruction. Seldom do you see a female soldier attempt to shoot their M-16 sideways. :)

That's too cool. I spent some time on PI and Camp LeJeune (and Pendleton, and was born at 29-Stumps) when I was a kid. My father was a career Marine. I had to look up the M-82. Now I'm hella jealous. I want one. Bad.

I taught marksmanship and demolitions in my engineer battalion. Women are much easier to teach than men. Your sister rocks!

Wolf892: jso2897: Wolf892: This is why the f**kin kids are winning this war..."I hope he gets a second chance." Really? This twerp was about to assault you and do God knows what, and you hope they treat him gently? Adults are not taking kids and the violence they commit seriously enough. We need to start being a lot harsher with our punishments and locking up these sociopaths for life. Who sticks around to try and beat up an old woman? Really? Only a monster in training would think of doing something like that.
Kids these days are not the little rascals they used to be people. Thanks to whatever we're putting in our food they've all turned into lumbering oafs that can and often do outweigh the average adult. They can do serious and even fatal harm to us when they are just "being kids and making their mistakes."
Lock them up for life.

Human nature. It's easy to be forgiving to somebody after you've kicked their ass. Ever listen to a winning boxer talk about his defeated opponent?
Anyway, no. i can't affoerd to give everybody you're afraid of three hots and a cot for life. Get a gun. learn to fight - take your chances. the justice system is just welfare for scared white people. You can't afford to feed the hungry? Cool. I can't afford to lock them up so you'll feel safe. Take care of yourself, and stop coasting on my dime, welfare bum.

We're supposed to be a civilized society...

"The end of the human race will be that it will eventually die of civilization." - Ralph Waldo Emerson

I don't necessarily think you are wrong, but I think that a large part of why people today feel so emboldened to commit acts of violence is that there are no serious consquences.

Jail? Phffft. When you look at some of the conditions many of these teens come from, jail is a flippin' cakewalk.

Jail is not a deterrent.

If law abiding citizens were allowed to defend themselves (and I'm not talking Zimmerman-type defending themselves) then THAT would be a deterrent. But they aren't. Or if they are, that right is so tied up in the vagueness of law that they are afraid to defend themselves for fear that they will be arrested and charged as well.

miss diminutive: "(He) hit the phone out of my hand. He took a swing. At that point I kneed him in his private parts and his response was - 'That was pretty good,'" said Lovejoy.

It seems like either his testicles hadn't descended or she missed the mark. I've been told countless times that getting a knee to the groin isn't something men just shrug off, especially from someone who looks like that.

Well, it also takes a few moments. And the worse the hit, the longer the lag time in my experience.

Once kicked my brother flat out in the balls (we fought a lot). He smiled and came at me again. It wasn't until a good twenty seconds after that he curled up moaning and didn't get up for a good ten minutes. I've had similar experiences. A light tap is almost instant pain, a good hard one can take a while to sink in.

He GOT an old-fashioned butt-kicking, did you miss that part? Nope, I was following up that it was the right thing to do at the right time.
Plus he got beat up by an old lady. I applaud her for doing what needed to be done.

And you need to be careful about the "every time he screws up knock him down" treatment. What he may well learn instead is that people are mean and arbitrary and don't give a shiat about him, so he better learn to knock people down first. That approach only works if he ALSO gets pumped up every time he does something right. I've seen lots of the former, and very very little of the latter.

A valid point but today too many judges and social services don't do the former. They just pump the kid up, tell them it's not their fault - it's society's fault, feed their egos, continue to let them slack off in school and not be held accountable for results. A balanced approach is best but that's not what we're getting now. Tough love is still tough first. We had a perfect example here in Tampa. Some kid started getting into trouble when he was 12 stealing cars and breaking and entering. A juvie court judge kept turning him loose and he kept coming back for bigger crimes. Finally he would up in the middle of a drug deal where a baby was killed. In the end, he would up dead on the street at 22 or 23, caught in the middle of a gun fight between two other people. A totally wasted life caused by leniency and Dr Spock thinking in the courts.

Using an M-16 does require a bit of training. They're not clones of regular hunting rifles, and definitely different from shotguns or handguns. I'm sure plenty of male soldiers let their egos hold them back from taking instruction and learning how to really use the M-16 well.

As for why the women did better? When I was in basic in 1983, women were not allowed to do any hand-to-hand (pugil sticks and fist fightin') combat training. While all the male soldiers were spending days on that, all the female soldiers spent their time at the firing range -- so we got twice as much marksmanship training as the males did. And yes, we did get the marksmanship award for the battalion.

I was lucky in that respect, because my father had familiarized my brother and I from about the age of nine with M-16s, M-60's and the .50. He used to bring home captured chi-com weapons and break them down, disable them and make display pieces of them for recruiting stations.

I got in trouble the first day we were issued M-16s in basic. We were in a classroom, and the instructor said "Don't do ANYTHING until I tell you to, and then looked and I had mine disassembled already. He told me "That's great, shiatbird, but I KNOW you can't put it back together correctly", so I reassembled it. From then on he always called me Private Smartass, but he always used me for a demonstrator.

The only time I didn't qualify Expert with the M-16 was in basic, but my sister is a way better shot than I am, and I've seen my grandmother shoot two peacocks with two shots on the fly with a .22. So I have no problem conceding that women can make great shooters.
