I am so farking psyched to see this movie. Tarantino might be a skeevy individual, but his films have been getting better and better.

This movie will win many awards.

Looking forward to this because I love spaghetti westerns but I hope it holds together better than Inglorious Basterds does. That was not so great...a bit too much style over substance. Some nice ideas and scenes but overall a mess.

Yes, subby, if by prequel you mean Shaft's great great grandmother has a bit part.

I don't know, man; that movie was worth it just for the three or four fantastic, masterfully suspenseful scenes scattered through it - Landa at the farmhouse with the french guy, Landa having pie with Shossana, the bar scene where they're playing charades... even if the rest of the movie was total crap, it'd be one of the best films of the year just for those amazing scenes.

Uh huh.

Yes, it had some great scenes. But so did Pulp Fiction, and that film holds together brilliantly.

It's a Mandingo/Drum sequel. Or side quest. Either way, QT is an asshole.

This movie looks like shiat... It looks like one of those "Scary Movie" versions of a grindhouse western. If he'd made a straight up spaghetti western, that would have been farking awesome. Instead he's made some weird half-assessing period piece filled with "Hey, remember this production gimmick from the 70's" moment?

Seriously, this shiat looks like Wagon's East 2. Tarantino, you're better than this.

I will admit, I'm a Tarantino fanboy.

I've enjoyed every single one of his movies (yes, even Death Proof), and, to me, the guy can do not wrong.

He's a hack? Probably.

He does remixes instead of movies? Certainly.

Are said remixes highly entertaining sittings that I could repeat over and over again? Hell yeah!!!

You're entitled to your opinion.
What I see in Tarantino's work is:
Flash instead of substance.
Little to no character development.
He can't write a plot to save his life.
He cobbles together concepts from other people's work.
He stretches out his meager creativity with shock tactics and ultra violence.

All in all, it makes for some entertaining action sequences. Some good one liners. And.... well, I guess that's all. If that's what you like, cool for you. But let's not pretend he's anything other than a hack.

Oh gawd.

Six months of moran QT geek hype now in play leading up to his latest underwhelming trophy hunt of a movie.

Sure I will see it. I always do. I don't expect much though.

What's weird is I consider myself a Tarantino fan, even though I only like two of his movies: Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction. But Pulp Fiction is easily on my all time top ten list. And I hated Death Proof and Inglorious Basterds, and Django seems more like those two films.

Normal. I kinda feel the same way. My main gripe is that Hilter and his buddies would still all be dead if the Basterds had stated home.

THIS!

He may not be Spielberg...but he writes movies that have no right to be as engrossing as they do, he mashes up genres that should never work together...but they do. And his dialog is yummy, delicious ear candy.

Don't even get me started about how f'awesome he is a picking obscure music: Can you tell me that Michael Madsen dancing rmaniachly doesn't enter your head when 'Stuck In The Middle' comes on? Go ahead and try not picturing Uma Thurman strumming her air guitar to the opening bars of 'Girl, You'll Be A Woman, Soon.'

QT is my all time favorite director, and given his body of work, I don't see that changing ever!

Honest Bender: He can't write a plot to save his life.

I understand where you could make this criticism with Inglourious basterds and Grindhouse, but, as a counterpoint, I'd like to offer Jackie Brown.

Also, I don't understand the criticism that he's a hack. I could understand how someone doesn't like his work or if thinks he is overrated, but I don't see how anyone can honestly accuse him of being a hack (dictionary definition: " one who produces banal and mediocre work in the hope of gaining commercial success in the arts"). As far as I can tell, he uses genres for inspiration, but each of his works, as a whole, is quite original.

/granted, I'm not film-school educated, so perhaps I'm not seeing the copying some of you are seeing.

He takes ideas and shots from other movies, but they're mashed up in a way that's never been seen before. And how movies make you say, "Hey, I've never seen something like this before." Unless you've studied a lot of film, there's only a handful of directors out there now where you could tell who directed it even if the movie didn't tell you. Tarantino is one of those.

I like that movie a lot and most of the guy's work, but that was adapted from a novel.

I'm a big Tarantino fan, but I'm not sure that's saying much - two of the others are Uwe Boll and Michael Bay.

I didn't really think Bay had a distinctive style, mediocre movies aimed at 13 year old boys?

Which didn't do that well at the box office, so scared him away from making good films and instead he went back to turning out puerile shiate like Kill Bill and that godawful one with the stuntman.

Tarantino annoys me more than any other director because Jackie Brown and Inglourious Basterds show just how good he can be - the first two scenes of IB were mesmerizing. But he can't write dialogue for love nor money.

Bay definitely has a distinctive style... scenes that are way overlit, overuse of camera movement in static scenes, especially 360 pans, bombastic music that nearly blows out the speakers, and nuclear level explosions caused by even the smallest explosives.

Basically, he took the Simpson/Bruckheimer/Tony Scott style and dialed it up to 11.

I'd also add David Fincher to the list of directors with a signature style.

Slow motion helicopters moving sideways, a lot of 360 shots of characters looking at the horizon, at least 15 shots coming out of the sun.
