My cell phone number maps to Dover DE, my Google Voice cell number maps to NYC, and my landline (VOIP through a cable modem) maps to DC, though all three are registered to the same address. I literally have no phone numbers at all that map to my own state.

With so many phone numbers being mapped to the location of the carrier rather than the customer, a non-local number isn't nearly as much of a red flag as it used to be.

She had all the time to create and live this faux life and go to med school. I'm impressed and sorry she had to believe there was a hole in her reality to be filled in such a bizarre way. Because had she just focused her energies on getting her MD the world might have gotten a great doctor.

Wright had come across the story of Dana's death on MckMama Without Pity, a blog dedicated to criticizing mommy blogger Jennifer McKinney (mycharmingkids.net).

FFFUUUUUU. The internet is such a god damn circle jerk half the time, and I'm convinced most of the people on it are complete lunatics (including "mommy bloggers" and their devoted followers). So, yeah, stories like this don't surprise me at all. Fakes like this are exposed practically every month at this point. Cancer is usually the initial hook, and then it gets worse.

The sad downside is... if you really DO have a tragic tale to tell on the web, a lot of people won't believe you. Of course, you probably won't be making ridiculously over-the-top claims that seem tailored to get and keep people's attention. Real tragedies tend to just be "I'm unemployed, my wife's an x-ray tech, our child has cancer, she gets better and worse". Pretty ordinary, like most of our lives.

I don't believe half the pitty party stuff on Fark. Except the little boy who got hurt by the rock. But then I couldn't read any of the follow up because of all the god saved our child stuff.

Wasn't there a girl who posted a blog about her pregnancy and the baby dying after it was born only someone figured out the picture she posted of the baby was in fact a very lifelike doll.

The takeaway is - men will lie on the internet to get laid, women will lie..... to live out some fantasy life or get attention? Men are far from perfect but at least you know what's going on in their heads, women are just crazy.
