The former chancellor of USF Polytechnic, who was criticized for buying giant slides and Star Wars statues with school money, resigned on Thursday

Bullshiat.

He was thrown down a Death Star reactor shaft by a disgruntled underling.

He actually bought that stuff a few years back, so this is not the firing offense. However the fact that USF Polytechnic is breaking off to form their own school due to the main investor being a state senator who was trying to force the split so he could keep all the money the rest of the USF colleges spent to build that campus the buildings, the student body, hire the teachers, etc and run off with them scot-free.

As it went, we got a less drastic budget cut because we went along with his plan, they get the buildings, the students get to finish their degrees if they are in progress and when that's over, all the teachers fall back to the USF system while Polytechnic tries to maintain accreditation with no students and no teachers. (but they have a cool Darth Vader statue!)

Goodman had been on paid professional development leave from USF since December, when school president Judy Genshaft demoted him. She gave him the option of returning to campus after a year and as a faculty member making $150,000.

Goodman was investigated after USF received complaints from Poly staffers about a hostile work environment. The investigation will now be closed and no report will be issued to the public.

1. steal school funds for your personal star wars wackatorium
2. Get caught
3. Get paid leave
4 Come back after a year and make 150 K.

Did i miss anything?

Who said they were for personal use? Maybe he bought them as a long-term investment for the school. The way things are going putting your money in Star Wars figurines might be the safe bet.

It's probably a safer pension plan investment than muni bonds, with so many cities going bankrupt these days.

Employees questioned the need for $10,000 worth of Star Wars statues, including a storm trooper, and a plastic slide between floors at Blue Sky West in Lakeland, but, they told investigators, Marshall Goodman, above, threatened them.

Eh. The alleged threats/hostile environment sound like a problem. But choosing inapt (but innocuous) art for the workplace, or taking a page from the likes of Google on office perks? That's a mistake under the circumstances but not all that buffoonish. Most companies/schools make similar "unnecessary" expenditures, just on stodgier equivalents.

Really, a video cost $140,000? Where can I get in on that scam, er, deal?

Holy shiat! I was curious about that rendering and it really is the design for the new campus. As a transplant (isn't everybody down here) to the Tampa Bay area I haven't really paid that much attention to the USF vs JD Alexander debacle. From what I understand, this whole farkup seems like it is due to some shady backroom dealings by Sen. Alexander and Gov. Scott. Everything about it seems like a huge waste of money and considering the lack of foresight and planning in setting up the new school (from what I can tell USF Poly will have neither students nor professors when it actually opens), I would not be the least bit surprised if the it doesn't survive the decade.

To be fair, I'd do the same.

Why was he not:

1. Arrested
2. Convicted
3. Stripped of all retirement benefits
4. Fired (this comes before step 1)

??????????????????????

As a USF alumni I'm ... really, really confused by that rendering.

Right now, during the summer session, yes, when there are 40,000+ on campus for autumn and spring semesters? not so much. (Graduated in May)

He did buy a Captain Kirk and ET statue too.

And as for the video, his son was head of the production company.
