FTFA: MANHATTAN: Now we're talking! One of the most delicious, flavorful cocktails is actually pretty healthy. Let's break it down.

What did I do to deserve this flat, flavourless Manhattan?

I prefer to keep my anal virginity.

2012-07-13 09:42:27 PM
My goodness, My Guinness!

FTFA: Guinness, Ingredients: Magic and Unicorn kisses

Awesomeness.

It is healthier for me if I make sure Mrs. Smurf gets her vodak smoothie. A tray of ice, a partially frozen 7-up, 8 oz vodak and 12 oz berries blended together. Then she is too blitzed to see me pouring a little tea into my whiskey.

Vodak in the Sun makes me go bye-bye.

Came to say this.

I made my Trippel with organic grains. It's pretty healthy.

xanadian: What? No tequila??

They did at least mention under the "Bourbon & Gin" section that "most hard liquors share the same properties. Tequila, light rum, etc."
So, there you have it.

2012-07-13 09:51:45 PM
Drink your way to a six pack

2012-07-13 09:52:25 PM
The liquor store near my house does not sale Magic or Unicorn kisses. :(

Gad sir! No mention of the gin and tonic, a fine source of quinine, to combat the deadly malaria? And with a slice of lime, a most effective anti-scorbutic! Harrumph!

2012-07-13 09:53:43 PM
-1 no Screwdriver, Cape Cod or Greyhound.

/love vodka

2012-07-13 09:54:29 PM
Guiness is not "thick." Fail.

Besides, this is Fark... we know we're all settling in for a handle of vodak and a half gallon of ice cream. Sheesh.

God, there's so much junk science in TFA, its almost as if a holistic nutritionist wrote it.

/now, back to my White Russian

Isn't a Bellini made with proseco, not champagne?

Good point: The gin&tonic, in perhaps any form, with any gin and any tonic, may be the perfect drink. And, thanks to the quinine, it's even medicinal!

Tonic water is crazy with empty calories, guys. 124 per drink, and that's without the gin.

R.A.Danny: Tonic water is crazy with empty calories, guys. 124 per drink, and that's without the gin.

As opposed to what? The nutrition packed into vodka?

2012-07-13 10:01:38 PM
The concept of a beer-based cocktail disgusts me.

120 in the above Guinness. Just sayin, it isn't on the list for a reason.

2012-07-13 10:02:17 PM
At least wine and sangria aren't total crap.

desertfool: Isn't a Bellini made with proseco, not champagne?

Dang it, I meant "prosecco", not "proseco".

If you don't love hard cider with a shot of vodka in it, your life is a waste and you should feel bad for wasting it.

Your weekend, me before breakfast.

I love hard cider and I love vodka. Not quite the same as beer, though.

If you want some nerdy fun:

Put a bottle of tonic water next to a black light in a dark room.

2012-07-13 10:10:10 PM
I'll be drowning my problems in Ouisghian Zodahs.

2012-07-13 10:12:48 PM
Whiskey and Gin? That's casting a wide net: it covers about 30% to 100% of what I might be drinking at any given time.

Buttle not Tuttle: Whiskey and Gin? That's casting a wide net: it covers about 30% to 100% of what I might be drinking at any given time.

Very true.

And there are no carbs in a Dumb and Diet.

The_Sponge: Put a bottle of tonic water next to a black light in a dark room.

I would, but I left my black light with my Hendrix posters and strobe light in 1975.

2012-07-13 10:20:49 PM
Bacardi and diet Coke

2012-07-13 10:21:22 PM
I might as well list two that have to be healthy based on these criteria: the Caesar adn the red eye.

Ghastly: What did I do to deserve this flat, flavourless Manhattan?

Should I even ask what you put in a Manhattan? They left out the cherry. I usually put in a bit of syrup from the jar. I like them....for now.

2012-07-13 10:21:35 PM

consider this: Bacardi and diet Coke

I just said that

AverageAmericanGuy: I love hard cider and I love vodka. Not quite the same as beer, though.

If you ever get the chance, cherry cider with vanilla infused vodka is awesome, as is Spire's Dark and Dry with a shot of cherry infused vodka. Any hard cider is great with pineapple infused vodka though.

Or Woodchuck with plastic bottle vodak. That's good too.

2012-07-13 10:26:54 PM
Magners Pear Cider for the WIN. I had that in the UK, and loved it.

2012-07-13 10:29:11 PM
No Makgeolli, nor any other active-culture drinks?

2012-07-13 10:30:50 PM
I make my Bloody Marys with Spicy Hot V-8 and a spoonful of horseradish.

I don't see White Russians on this list. No love for milk?

2012-07-13 10:34:49 PM
Hm. Drinking a Guinness right now, actually... health nut that I am and all.

It doesn't taste all that 'low cal', though. Like drinking buttered toast. Mmm.

2012-07-13 10:38:18 PM
Mid level Bourbon and Diet Vanilla Pepsi, add some ice cubes..... Enjoy!

2012-07-13 10:39:06 PM
Bellinis: that's how my wife gets her vitamin C.

Bloody Marys: that's how I get my vitamin B.

2012-07-13 10:47:14 PM
Manhattin:
4oz bourbon of choice
2oz vermouth of choice
dash of Grenadine
2-3 dashes of bitters
possibly a cherry to garnish.

Shake gently over ice.

That's generally where I end up. The cherry juice made them to sweet. And, some bourbons are gooder over ice while others work better in mixed drinks. The good news is you get to drink bourbon while you figure out what you like best.

2012-07-13 10:55:05 PM
Hmm. Clamato's on sale. I might have some Caesars tomorrow.

2012-07-13 10:57:02 PM
How do you like that, my favorite drink and my wife's favorite drink are both on there.

As if I needed more of an excuse to drink.

2012-07-13 10:57:15 PM
All excellent choices

If I may be so bold however, may I make a suggestion.

Zubrowka (Bison Grass Vodka) Caesars. An aged cayenne sauce like Chalula as the zing.

2012-07-13 11:01:00 PM
The "What's up Doc?" isn't on the list. It's carrot juice, gin and ginger liqueur or brandy.

The carrot juice keeps you from getting blind drunk. (*rimshot*)
