I saw one on youtube a couple of weeks ago, but they had everything speeded up so you couldn't make out what was happening. Is that the one you're referring to?

No, I think we had a thread or a mention of this a few weeks ago. Stuck with me because I'm a Dexter fan.

Kind of. It's not really a spoiler since it was shown at the end of last season. This scene is just an obvious expansion on what happened.

Kill this show. Or bring in the long lost twin brother to Doakes.

I am interested to see what role Yvonne Strahovski will be playing. She needs to keep her schedule free to be Ms. Marvel in Avengers 2, btw.

this and the next season are planned to be the last.

I'm not too keen on either Deb's crush on Dexter or her finding out about him, but I'll give them somewhat of a pass if they have an ending in mind.

Doakes got killed (explosion) by Lila during season 2's finale. I don't think he can pull it together to maka a return visit.

Deb having a crush on Dexter is interesting, what with them being divorced IRL.

Jesus this show is awful. It started as pulp, like, bad B movie territory, and has just gotten worse and worse. the writing is awful. They just leave things behind. I for whatever reason am a completist. Once I start something I have to see it through, but good lord this show makes it hard. What, Edward James Olmos was a ghost? Man, that didn't take 1 episode to figure out. What, we just remembered that Deb knew that the ice truck killer was her brothers brother? Oh, we'll mention that 2 seasons later with a throwoff line about it. What, we only can write 3 characters, so every year we'll have a new cop who doesn't trust dexter?

The question I ask everyone... Do you think the writers of Dexter want you to think that his sister is a supercop, or a dumbass? Here's the thing. I think they want you to think of her as a supercop, with some inborn natural instinct, being a cop is the one thing she's good at even when the rest of her life is a mess. The problem is, they don't know how to write her, so she's constantly led around by the nose by her brother, and dumb lucks into every good thing she does as a cop, and they write her as the damsel in distress WAY too much for me to take her seriously as supercop.

It's interesting, but I think it's very much a shark-jumping moment. I knew Deb would eventually find out, and I don't think the show could last much longer after that revelation, but the added bit of semi-incest was a bit much.

agreed. on topic though, didn't deb find out at the end of book 1 that dexter was a killer, and roll with it?

I seriously hope season 7 is better than season 6. It was by far the worst season of all.

Season 3 with Jimmy Smits was our pick for worst. Last season was saved with the slow-developing Louis storyline.

I've never understood the hate for season 3. It's not as good as the first 2 seasons or season 4, but it's not bad.

I think I would've enjoyed Season 6 a bit better if it was announced closer to the beginning that the show would end with season 8. Otherwise it felt like the show was all over the place in season 6.

But she has a mouth on her that a sailor would blush over, and she needs something shoved it in constantly over and over repeatedly to shut her up imo =)

Indeed. Easier for Dexter too, not having to deal with Doakes after him all the time.

Given the HUGE suckfest that was last season...the ending did give me a tinge of hope that it wouldn't be a waste waiting for the next season.

I'm torn. I love Michael C. Hall so very much. Season 4 was too good, and difficult to top. But last season just felt like series salad: Colin Hanks was cataclymically misdirected. (They apparently didn't reveal to him the most obvious plot point about Olmos while filming) the whole Deb Crush thing was WTF? The freaky intern guy has possibilities, and I hope they still carry it over...but the season just felt so pointless, and Dex got seriously sloppy.

But the ending was flippin awesome: I just hope this season doesn't suck, because the series really deserves a good ending arch, and that's what the next two years should do: Give Dex a proper send off.

2012-07-13 09:47:59 PM
I got Showtime just for Dexter after season 1....and after last season, I dropped Showtime.
Colin Hanks was pretty good. But the writing was very bad. Saw certain things from miles away. It did have a good ending, though.
I didn't like the Lumen season either. THAT was worse than last season, I think. There were a lot of dropped balls.
I think Dexter could still turn around - the character is still really interesting, and so are the basic supporting cast, even. But I'll wait to find out when they come out on DVD.

Think about that though. The character doesn't actually know that for the duration. It kind of makes sense if they left Hanks in the dark so he could play it true.

The trinity killer, John Lithgow, that season was pretty good.

We gave up after Lithgow.

It had a great beginning, but then it just got stupid.

As long as we don't ever hear the farking name Lumen ever again, I would watch the last seasons even if they showed Quinn and Dexter actually using water skis to jump a shark. I'd watch reruns if they were nude.

Seriously though, fark Lumen. Just about ruined the whole damn show. That season really, really stunk.

Yeah, the first two seasons were the only good ones in the series. Once the Showtime suits wanted to make Dexter a warm 'n' fuzzy family man, who just happens to kill on the side, this show jumped the shark.

2012-07-13 11:49:57 PM
I used to love this show. Then the terrible supporting cast, the laughable police 'investigations" and the general lack of interesting storylines made me hate it. Now it's easily one of the worst shows on television.

2012-07-13 11:55:30 PM
The incest thing is just weird and off-putting, but I've been waiting for Deb to catch Dex. I hope she figures out the whole story and doesn't fall for Dexter's explanation.

The writing has been pretty awful lately though. I liked season 5, but it was chocked full of plot holes. Season 6 was just bad, and they kind of dropped some inconvenient threads. Like, we seem to have just forgotten all about the murder Quinn was suspected in. Dex fudged the blood results, but that was just one of many things Quinn to the murder that he couldn't explain.

Only reason why I still watch Dexter is because of Michael C Hall

I'm okay with weak storylines.. I spent 10 years watching Smallville, never missing an episode on tv

Dexter Morgan is still entertaining to me

2012-07-14 12:39:11 AM
Season 1 = 9.0
Season 2 = 7.5
Season 3 = 6.5
Season 4 = 10.0
Season 5 = 5.5
Season 6 = 5.0

Following this pattern the next season should be great
but we'll see

It's more of a mental thing, it's still a family and a sibling. Maybe technically it isn't but it really is in my opinion.

/wouldn't be shocked if we end up finding so farked up secret about Deb.

Well, the internal dialogues in the series are always fun, but the books and the show split paths in the first book and never converge.

Doakes could have survived that blast, moved to south america for some reconstructive surgery and lived off his military training during a long, 5 year rehab where he focused his anger towards dexter and plans on coming back in a bloodbath murder spree rambo style.

Damn that would be awesome.

No, that would have been a huge, unbelievable stretch. His body is so mutilated and torn up by the explosion that he has to be identified by dental records.
