Honest question, who would you rather have?

Probably the league MVP, who is younger than Brees and scored more TDs than Brees last year. Crazy, I know.

Rodgers isn't there yet, and may never be.

Where is the there that Rodgers isn't yet?

Can you name a QB that's had an easier ride in the past decade?

Since football is still a game involving luck, I'd take Eli Manning.

So in order to prove he's a better player, he should go get injured. This makes sense.

Lighten up, Francis. It's a joke.

As fans of the NFL, and as fans of great players and not just laundry, we should be able to appreciate and enjoy both Rodgers and Brees.

Brady

Kicked his ass the SB year. Would've kicked his ass this year if it wasn't for those scheming Niners, lol.

I believe both are excellent leaders and anyone who says one is better than the other is hyping their guy based on something completely intangible because they have nothing tangible that they can put their guy ahead on.

I hear these guys say that they want the guaranteed money up front in case they get injured. I say take the guaranteed money later in the contract, you know, in case you get injured.

IAmRight: Why would I be happy that the rest of the team is going to likely suffer in quality? I hope he accepts lower pay a la Brady but that the organization actually tries to put the best possible team on the field instead of trading until, in 2153, they're going to have every pick in the NFL draft.

Hopefully for your sake Ted Thompson is the kind of GM Mickey Loomis is. This deal actually doesn't suck capwise.

I do. I've liked Brees ever since 2004 when he won me my first futures bet, $10 on San Diego to win the AFC West at 20/1 odds. (the early 2000's Chargers really really really sucked, they weren't just underachievers like they are now) And I've liked Rodgers from about the same time, since I sat in the stands and saw him complete 21 straight passes or something like that against that juggernaut 2004 USC team at the Coliseum.

I might be in the minority here, but I think Aaron Rodgers, while great, is better as a part of a system, which is why he's succeeded in Green Bay. Once you figure out how to beat the system, it's not that hard to beat Rodgers (see: Eli Manning). I am by no means saying he wouldn't do well elsewhere, but I don't think he'd do as well.

Brees is more versatile, and in my opinion, more accurate.

I don't think anyone has to preface accuracy with "in my opinion" when it comes to Drew.

digistil: In the case you miss-typed, do you believe Rodgers to be a better leader than Brees?

The all important, but usefully vague "leadership" statistic. What, all that tape of Brees shouting before games and acting like a fool has brain washed you into thinking he's General Patton? Why didn't Brees use his leadership to beat Alex Smith (...imagine the butthurt if you predicted before the season Brees would lose to Alex freaking Smith in the playoffs) in the playoffs? Maybe Brees should have chipped in a few stacks to make the defense play harder. That would have been some real leadership.

Rodgers is on a better team. He's 5 years younger. His arm is (being generous to Brees) the equal of Brees. He has the same amount of Super Bowls as your lord and savior Breesus. He isn't facing a lost year this year because his team was running an illegal bounty system. I'd say wherever "there" is, Rodgers is there.

/also Brady is "there". Peyton would probably be "there" too if he wasn't hurt. Eli probably deserves to be "there" but no one ever gives him any credit. Sad to say, Brees isn't anywhere as "there" as you seem to think. At best, he gets 2b tied with Brady. Based on his team's upcoming lost season I'd say he rounds out the top 5.

Yeah, have everyone on the team forget how to hold on to the ball pretty much f*cks up everyone's system.

And if you think Brees is less of a system QB, you're out of your mind. He never came near being this good in San Diego.

Meh. Brees is the better QB. Sorry. Rodgers is good but on any given play I'd have more confidence in teh Breesus.

On another note, Green Bay fans don't deserve Rodgers, after the classless way they treated Farv-ruh. Just a matter of time before those d-bags decide to piss on Rodgers, too. I swear that fan base is just one rung below Philly in the white-trash-o-meter.

FWIW, just because something isn't currently measurable in basic decimals, doesn't mean it isn't there. A^2+B^2=C^2 existed before Pythagoras.

In what world does a team doing better with the backup QB reinforce the argument that the starter is not only clearly the best QB on the team, but the best QB in the division, conference, and league?

Five rookie head coaches have made it to the Super Bowl. It helps to inherit a system and players and not have to rebuild from the ground up, a la Siefert or Caldwell.

Actually, the clearly tongue-in-cheek point is more that playing in a dome doesn't automatically make you a great quarterback.

Personally, I toss him in with Brady and Rodgers as one of the top three. I figure you can put them in any order you want, but they're hands-down the top three. The 4-8 range, though, is also really good.

The best thing about the NFL right now is that there are so many really talented quarterbacks.

IAmRight: I believe both are excellent leaders and anyone who says one is better than the other is hyping their guy based on something completely intangible because they have nothing tangible that they can put their guy ahead on.

I think most fans can be easily misled into thinking "leadership" always entails an extrovert who is constantly barking orders & instruction, and in general being demonstrative. I'm not insinuating I think with Brees it's all "an act" or anything (and I like him a lot as a QB and just as dude), but his natural on-field personality is more of the traditional field general variety.

That's all cool and everything, but being on an even-keel and performing on a high level consistently is just as much about "leadership" as anything else, and I think both Rodgers and Eli Manning fit that mold. If it's the 4th quarter and adversity strikes, with both you aren't going get a big speech that belongs in movie script; they'll just call play, affix their chin strap, then before they break the huddle they just wink to the other 10 guys and say "chill, we got this."

I'd hardly put the blame on Rodgers. It's questionable if he's even in the top five players on the team.

Man, I totally agree with this. And the coming year promises to be even better with Luck and RG3 coming into the league.

With the new safety initiatives, expect it to only get better and better, as the great QB's will be able to stay in the league longer and longer.
