So... Tigers vs Rangers ALCS?

The only thing more worrisome than a drug test in the past 6 years to a Yankee is facing the Tigers in the playoffs.

Yankees, Rangers, Angels, Tigers come out of the AL
Atlanta, St. Louis, San Francisco, and... Pittsburgh? from the NL.

One good thing this year is it looks likes there a real race in each division right now.

Yeah, I was thinking once that whole one-game playoff thing was done, but to expand, I see the Angels beating the Rays and Pittsburgh knocking off the Nationals after Strasburg's arm falls off.

The Angels come to Detroit for a 4 game set starting Monday. I'm not sure where the rotations are going to fall, but if Verlander faces Weaver, there'll be ejections by the 4th inning. Especially if Fielder knocks one out against Weaver.

I really hope Holland gets his head on straight for the second half. We really need him to come through. I'm worried about only have two proven and injury free starters (Darvish and Harrison). Oswalt and Colby scare me.

Colbra turns on the "kick ass" switch in October, so I think he's fine. Oswalt is the wild card here. Of course, we're apparently moving to a 6-man rotation, so who knows what's going to happen.

Right now, it's the offense that has me concerned. The laaa alberts are simply not going to go away, and this lack of producing runs is a problem.

I've got a little different take on it.

I'd love to see Dutch get his house in order and pitch well the second half, but I'm not holding my breath. Last year, he had the best season of his career, so far. While he's really young, he pitched nearly 200 innings in 2011. He's coming back to earth this year & I don't think this should really surprise anyone. He's the one on the staff that worries me most.

I'm not sure that I'd call Darvish "proven." At least not yet. He shows some pretty major signs of being a clutch pitcher, but he hasn't even gone a full season in the bigs. And he kinda has a bad habit of walking batters & getting himself in jams. To his credit though, he usually pitches his way out of them. The problem is that things get ratcheted up in the 2nd half of the year and the playoffs & his propensity to get himself into jams could really cost him in the post-season.

Harrison should be fine. Although he also pitched a ton of innings last year, he's been very consistent.

I'm less apt to worry about Lewis & Oswalt. Neither are overpowering pitchers, but they're both cagey veterans who know how to pitch. As long as Lewis is healthy, he'll be fine. Oswalt just needs more work, IMO. I think 4 MiLB starts might not have been quite enough.

More than anything, the Ranger bats really need to wake up.

You can't say this too loud in Seattle, but he looks mighty toasty. His game has always been driven by those infield singles he legged out because of his unique batting stance and speed...his batting average on balls in play was .400 back in 2004, fer Chrissakes. Prior to last year, his infield hit percentage hovered around 15%...now it's about 7%. He's even flying out way more than usual. I can't tell you what a joy it is to watch him and Chone Figgins team up for some explosive Mariners baseball.

Like any good baseball fan, he's ignoring the play-in game that'll be dropped by 2014.

And I'm pretty happy with that list, except that I think the White Sox will be taking the Central by a game or so (it'll be tight down the wire).
