Weaver95: they're ALWAYS planning for the apocalypse.

I think their planning picked up around 11pm Eastern Standard Time on November 4, 2008, but I can't think of any reason why that would be.

The sons of Virginia's aristocracy - clad in their seersucker and bowties - decided bigger was better.

Yeah this won't go any better for them than it did last time.

I wonder, is there ever an epiphany among these loons that the day of judgement is irritatingly slow in arriving? Do any of them ever think, 'well, I've been living under a mountain drinking my own urine and counting my bullets for some time now, I guess Balrog HUEYLEWISSAIN Obamalypse isn't the Antichrist here to bring about the end times after all'?

Good luck with that .22 rifle when the poop hits the fan.

It happened on the day Obama magically transformed from an empty-suit panderer into a megalomaniacal dictator.

The actual article is just some guy discussing what .22 rifle would be most useful in a societal breakdown. Not very interesting (also, not very good advice; a semi-auto rimfire isn't reliable enough for a survival weapon - a bolt-action would be better).

I skipped the comments because I get my fill of crazy racist rants from Zimmerman threads on Fark.

As an Appleseed instructor, I see .22's go through 500 rds a weekend and all of the semi's have issues. The 10/22 has mag issues and the Marlin 795 needs lubing. The 795 also has an issue with the trigger guard cracking after many takedowns. The Savage and Remington also have extractor and feed issues. Also, feeding a semi the high-velocity stuff is asking for trouble. If I was going to rely on a SHTF .22, I'd go with a bolt. I'd take my Marlin 80. I'd also go with tech sights for irons and if I scope a dovetail, I'd get low rings that have a vertical setscrew and still build up the comb with some foam pipe insulation. Also, don't forget a web M1 sling and 1 1/4 swivels. Just my $.02 after seeing people and equipment pushed.

Agreed, not really any politics on there at all. That thread would fit in fine on just about any gun or survival forum on the web. Actually looks a lot like some we've had here about guns for the Zombie Apocalypse.

Oddly enough my father and I had been discusssing 22s lately, both handgun and rifle. He is of this freep breed while I am not. I recently got a Sig 1911-22 and Ruger 10/22 we'd been talking about. He sent me this link just this morning, though I have told him I don't go to that site. I responded to his email as mildly as possible with why these type of tards bug me. I ended it with 'No offense though'. So he may not write me back soon. But he'll write back eventually.

I just hope Freepers remain convinced that anyone who doesn't support their extreme views and beliefs are all sissified, tree hugging, pre-mos waiting for the chance to suck a dick and be lead into Christian Slavery. It will make it funner for me if they ever come to disabuse them of that notion.

Fortunately, I was able to point out to my dad the part of UN 21 that shows an exception made for countries where gun ownership is enshrined in their constitution.

I don't think I'm going to have to help him bury ammo under the foundation of the house anymore, but I'm not sure.

No, they're talking about survival rifles - the sort of thing you'd take with you to live off of squirrels in the woods once the government collapses due to atheists getting "in god we trust" taken off the money, or whatever they're afraid of this week.

I don't get why this was greened. Sure, it's freerepublic, but it's just some hypothetical stuff about using a .22 for survival. Big deal. It's not like they're planning Shay's Rebellion with .22s.

The weirdest thing is that some people apply that same obsesive, fetish-istic passion to flashlights. Like, spending hundreds of dollars on a small, handheld flashlight, then spending even more on modifications, customization, etc. There are message boards dedicated to the stuff.

My biggest issue with that post was that he seems to think 500+ rounds a week as an instructor is a similar use-case to an "End of the world as we know it" situation. I'd imagine a .22 would mostly be used for hunting, not battle (indeed battle with a .22 firing that much is probably leading to a situation where you won't be needing those stockpiles). If you're burning through 500 rounds a week hunting, you're either feeding an army, or a lousy shot.

For real "end of the world" guns, go black-powder, and buy property that has galena ore deposits, as well as all the materials to make your own powder. It's the only way ot be really really really sure.

I sincerely doubt the premise that the 10/22 Takedown is worth the extra $100+ over a normal 10/22.

I grew up around this kind of culture. I always found it hilarious how these types of people deluded themselves into believing they were rugged minimalists living off the land and free from the dependency of government, when in fact nothing could be further from the truth. They needed the government to reach out to them to provide them roads, postal service and utilities out to the middle of nowhere. They didn't "live off the grid", they just demanded that the grid stretch out to them out in the middle of nowhere. They deprived themselves of none of the modern creature comforts. They were a bigger drain on resources and taxpayer funds than any inner city "welfare queen" could dream of, all because they couldn't live in higher population density areas in which resources could be provided and allocated more efficiently.

This author should get down on his hands and knees and thank that "Prius" driver he smugly sneers at. That Prius driver is the grownup who's gets up and goes to work every day to pay the taxes that supports this guy who didn't grow out of his Davy Crockett phase after the age of 11 years old like the rest of us.

I've never thought of it before, but I'm sure that community exists. If it's one thing you can count on, it's people wanting more pleasure out of their f*ckable inanimate objects.
