(Washington Post)   If you are a motorcycle escort cop for the First Lady, it's probably not a good idea to discuss how you want to shoot her with other cops. And, it's REALLY a bad idea to show them a picture of the gun you intend to use   (washingtonpost.com) divider line 143

A lot of you are way too quick to assume racism here. Ever consider that some cops might hate/fear Michelle "Healthy Eating" Obama because she poses a threat to donuts?

/more information is needed. For one, is Mr. Tough Guy "I have a picture of a gun and can say 'Pew pew pew!' really loud" Policeman a major fatass?
//also, was the idiot already on some kind of probation? What kind of loser cop has to resort to waving around a picture of a gun? Is he restricted to hanging around the post office trying to arrest pictures of criminals?

Lord Dimwit: Bungles: Why exactly do people dislike Michelle Obama? She's charmed heads of state the world over, done superb work rebuilding the USAs international image, and has tried to make kids less fat.

Isn't that pretty much a perfect First Lady?

I absolutely hated Bush - he was terrible as a President and as a guy, seemed to be fairly clueless. He seemed to be a good husband and father, though, but that's not relevant to the discussion.

I never thought anything particularly bad about Laura Bush. In fact, I don't remember anyone thinking Laura was bad. She wanted kids to read more, wanted parents to read to their kids more, and worked hard to raise awareness of women's health issues. No one disliked her, and no one - right or left - said anything particularly bad about her. Anyone on the left who did say bad things about her was fairly marginalized.

But the Right has gone nuts about Michelle - and it's not just basement-dwellers. Fox News commentators, Republican politicians...big names have said horrible things about her because she had the audacity to suggest that kids might need to eat a healthier diet. Why does the Right get a free pass to say these sorts of things about someone who has been fairly apolitical and certainly no more political than any other First Lady?

The obvious thought is "she is black", but then the Right were equally hideous about Hillary Clinton, so I suspect the real answer is "they're just total arseholes".

If HBO has taught me anything, it's that she looked just like Laura Linney.

gimmegimme: Hey, right-wingers: what happened to "Respect the office?" You folks spent eight years telling us that we should make the President and First Lady teflon because of who they are.

Oh, but you see, RealAmericanPatriots® know that the Obama is not legitimately the President, just like that brave soldier who refused to obey orders a few years ago because he claimed Obama wasn't the CINC of the armed forces. They respect the office. Hell, they swear to uphold and defend with their lives that office. They go home at night and strip down to just the satin thong and bullet-proof vest and stand before the mirror covered in oil and doing hundreds of pushups in the darkened room, illuminated by a single, bare 40 watt bulb, surrounded by posters of Oliver North and Don Rumsfeld. Glistening and sweating, they taking out the service pistol, loading, cocking and placing that barrel in their mouth muttering, "Give the order, sir, and I'll do it. Just say the word, say it. My life for you." Then it's 50 shocks to the testicles from the tens unit. The sparks like the stars on the flag. And 13 stripes delivered across the back from the gun-belt. A single pin pressed through the palm to remind him of the suffering of Jesus, a suffering no Moslem would ever understand.

That's how it is for a RealAmericanPatriot®

I had a family incident where a mentally ill relative made threats against the admin. This was sheer puff but the threat of their imprisonment was quite real. The Secret Service takes their job very seriously.

Now this man was in a position to do the crime, had the weapon to do the crime, and the plan. He was quite capable of using a firearm, as per his training and in close proximity would be very lethal.

I feel prosecution to the fullest extent is warranted here. The Union can protect his job sure but his liberty ....not so much.

the Secret Service has had its collective sense of humor surgically removed, and this guy will undergo some rather long and unpleasant questioning.

I completely agree. It's one thing for some anonymous internet jack-hole like myself to say, "No way would this douche have followed through". The Secret Service can't be so casual and cocksure.

I was talking specifically about the news media. To my mind, the coverage is deliberately blurring the crucial Nugent-vs-Hinckley distinction, as a subtle means of hyping the story and driving traffic.

"for the first time in my adult life I am proud of my country because it feels like hope is finally making a comeback."

"For the first time in my adult lifetime, I'm really proud of my country, and not just because Barack has done well, but because I think people are hungry for change."

Flag waving is popular on both sides of the aisle, especially by politicians, but conservatives in this country partly define themselves by how much they love America. I'm sure there are a lot of people who don't like her because she's black, but quotes like this are what die hard conservatives think all filthy liberals have in their hearts... that liberals are ashamed by the country that conservatives love.

Don't get me wrong, I'm flaming liberal and I have no problems with Michelle Obama and it's annoying to see people get so foamy about her, but the loathing the right has for her doesn't come out of right field. Michelle made some REALLY stupid public statements that drew that fire, and Elephants never forget (get it? Elephants? Republicans? I'mma become a right wing conspiracy theorist and that's gonna be my slogan. You heard it here first.)

Those statements are only "stupid" to stupid people. Real patriotism requires you to assess your country in an honest manner. Toby Keith doesn't do that. Do I wish she hadn't said that so as not to stoke the stupid fire? Maybe. But it's far more patriotic to question our course than to say, "America, fark yeah."

Pocket Ninja: I'm waiting for Sarah Palin's statement on this. As someone who was also the victim of demeaning statements made by an agent assigned to protect her -- and what is a demeaning statement, anyway, if not threatening? -- she will surely take this opportunity to speak out against another woman having to endure the same thing.

I put the odds of this happening at about zero. I also think zero is a pretty fair assessment of the chance that should S Palin read your post she would understand the sarcasm.

OK, we can all agree that she is a complete a-hole. If she was never proud of her country until they elected her husband (whether you like him or not) this is someone that is completely contemptable. However we as a country voted for her husband, they are married, deal with it.

I am horrified by everything Barack Obama has done as president TO me (he has done nothng FOR me) and I find his wife an annoying scold. However much that may be, I'd be the first to call for the death penalty (slow and painful) for anyone who even tried to kill either of them. And that's not just because Joe Biden would be the president.

The people elected him legally & constitutionally. She comes as part of the deal. Why does one person think they have the right to change the will of the people in such a manner? If it were an illegal power grab, thats different but not her fault. You want to (justifiably in my opinion) impeach him for something he's done in office, go ahead. But do not physically harm them. And again, the crimes of her husband are not her fault.

OK, I can turn her off when she comes on my TV, and thats the only way I would ever encounter her. You work with her and can't turn off the TV? Then get a different job.

Aarontology: That's the best part about idiots like that. They always think everyone secretly agrees with them so they're stupid enough to lay out their plans.

Seems to be mainly "false consensus effect", possibly with a little Dunning-Kruger effect sprinkled in. It's the same thing that prompts racists and other bigots to defend themselves with "I'm just saying what everybody's thinking!"

If you're a minority who can pose as a member of the majority (a light-skinned black person who can pass as white, a gay person who can pass as straight, etc.) it's interesting how people will open up and tell you what they really think about "those people" after they mistake you for "one of us."

Guess I need to ride the short bus then, because I find it stupid that, as the wife of the president of the united states, she would make comments like that.

If you're going to be the type of person who attributes pride and shame to the entire United States (as she does, when she states that she's proud of the country for electing Barack Obama), then if she's never in her adult life been proud of the USA before it means...

She wasn't proud of the diplomatic role that the US played in the tearing down of the Berlin wall (1989).

She wasn't proud of the leading role that the US took in negotiating the Dayton peace accord which brought an end to the war between Bosnia, Serbia, and Croatia (a war who's combined casualties exceeded 100,000).

I could go on, but I'm not gonna spend that much time listing it out. You don't need to be proud of everything America does. There's a metric ass ton of stuff that we need to do way better about.

But to say that there's nothing in the last 30 years to be proud of about America, besides the election of Barack Obama... I'm sorry, but it's stupid. It shows either a complete lack of education or a willful disdain for the country.

I've gotta agree with The Sponge on this one. Michelle Obama is hot but Jacquelyn was smoking! As for the latter, I still think Patrick Sky put it best in his song "Fight for Liberation":

"... Then we'll pump some LSD
into Jackie Kennedy
and we'll make her fark the workers overtime."

Laura Bush, on the other hand, never seemed remotely sexy. But she did come across as a nice enough First Lady (and far smarter than her idiot husband). It was just very strange to me when Mrs. Bush got to help with the groundbreaking for the new National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, DC but Obama - as the nation's first black president - did not get to do the same. I understand that Laura Bush was on the museum's board, and Obama wasn't, but it's still kinda weird.

It's called hyperbole and you have been on Fark long enough to understand that. As I said, the statements were indelicate and stoked the stupid fire. Am I proud of the Iran Contra scandal? Am I proud of Henry Kissinger's war crimes? Am I proud of the massacres in Iraq committed by our mercenaries? Of course not. Sure.

But this guy is a motorcycle escort cop in DC. He deals with VIP motorcades every day. It's probably just dumb luck that the day he snapped is when he had Obama duty. Could have been the chairman of the World Bank, or the visiting president of some South American country, or whatever.

I don't know aobut him,

But some black dudes came to my house, had sex with my wife, made us move out into a trailer. I had to keep paying for the mortgage due to that being my fair share and for repartations. I also had to leave the Lexus behind, but they let me keep the Kia. I then had to hand over all my firearms to some Mexican looking guys. They said they were part of a new trade program with the Northern Mexican States.

Well, really just my kids and I moved. My wife stayed because you know, black dudes....

They all had a paper saying they were from Obama's office. Should I have ignored it?

I'mma become a right wing conspiracy theorist and that's gonna be my slogan. You heard it here first.)

Ummmm, in the last three weeks Freeperland has had article after article about how they're "ashamed" of their country after the healthcare ruling. It's a turn of phrase.

I can already tell that this officer is (without the WaPo reporting it)

Black

Not ID'd or ethnic background mentioned (rules out being white)

Still has his badge

You know if it was a honky, he would be sitting in jail now

slayer199: Farking idiots. I'm no fan of The President or his wife (totally disagree with their politics). That being said I respect the office and think anyone that wants to harm either of them is an anti-American moron.

Furthermore, what has Michelle done that is any worse--hell, any different--than any other first lady? Traditionally, the first lady picks a cause that absolutely no one could object to, something that no one would be surprised to hear a typical American mom advocating. "Just Say No to Drugs" and "Learn to Read" have been past choices; Michelle chose "Eat your vegetables and go play outside." Do conservative parents really tell their kids NOT to eat their vegetables, now that Michelle Obama has advocated it?

Mind you, I do not agree with the Obamas on the vegetable issue myself, but I always thought mine was a minority opinion.

"When I hear a woman candidate with any kind of percieved whine about that excess criticism, that doesn't do us any good. I mean, work harder. Prove yourself to an even greater degree that you're capable, that you're going to be the best candidate." Sarah Palin, March 2008

Mabe it's up to Michelle to prove herself less murderable.

/not as relevant as I remembered but since I bothered to look it up...

Yes, because the American criminal justice system has been shown time and time again to be massively weighted against white people.

garandman1a: OK, we can all agree that she is a complete a-hole. If she was never proud of her country until they elected her husband (whether you like him or not) this is someone that is completely contemptable. However we as a country voted for her husband, they are married, deal with it.

No, we can't, but some of us are able to interpret statements from context instead of lifting them from same and reacting to what our biases want the statements to mean.

I was not aware that Michelle Obama is an elected official or is running for such a position. Could you inform me regarding this?

Are you hoping for an administrative job in the Secret Service?
