Lionel Mandrake: tenpoundsofcheese: Considering he got a standing ovation after his speech, Romney did well.

Totally. He just might get single digits of the black vote.

iirc Bush got 8% which was enough.

so yeah. the bar doesn't need to be that high.

Unlike Obama who prefers not to be seen hanging around with black folk.

To be fair, they were told the Decemberists would be playing after the speech.

Same goes for starving artists law students.

Did I mention I'm a heeb? Mitt, I'll look Jewish for you... for a price.

Republicans...bussing people in to support them? Can't be. I think I remember hearing something like this before. It was tea something...tea porters...was that it? And they were going to townhall meetings to do something. Yell a lot, I think. Ah, I'm sure its all just a coincidence.

Yeah, too bad Romney is doing bad in other key demographics as well.

Otherwise you would've had a point there.

Didn't they biatch a lot about government being too involved in their everyday lives while simulataneously biatching about Metro not running enough trains for their rallies?

Hold on to your asses, ladies and gentlemen. There's a BILLION DOLLARS of anonymous money earmarked for "Anyone - even this douche - anyone but N0bama".

There will be more twisted stunts than this before November.

What are you going to do, though? Are you going to stay home and not vote? The entirety of politics today is to discourage the opposition from voting.

I'm old, white, and mostly stupid. I'm going to vote Democratic this time. A bunch of awful fiends got together and took control of the Republic party. Well I don't have any power over that. What I can do is vote Democratic this time. Let them speak their evil words, their awful and stupid words, and let them all look foolish. I'll just vote Democratic.

Why? Just take the money and then don't cheer for him. Unless the guy doesn't pay up front and has some way of knowing who cheered and didn't cheer, there's no reason you can't take his money AND avoid compromising your values.

gerrymander: Is the assertion here that if they're not active in the organization, that somehow makes them not black? Or is it that the votes for Romney-supporting African-Americans don't count? Ooh, there's a slogan for you:

You missed (hah) the important part of the story:

'Shelton told Ed Schultz on MSNBC Wednesday night that Romney flew in supporters to Houston to applaud him at the civil rights group's annual convention.

"The campaign actually gave me a list of African-American VIPs that they brought in to the NAACP meeting," Shelton told Schultz. "So, I'm sure those are the ones they sat down with because, quite frankly, none of the rank-and-file NAACPers met with him."

After the speech, Romney said that he had African-American supporters at the convention who spoke with him privately and expressed their support.'

So what they did was, bring in some supportive people to a conference with a very large number of people already there, arranged for him to do a private meet and greet with the people he had brought in specifically for that purpose (ignoring the actual attendees), then announce that he had had private talks with supportive people at the conference. If you don't think that that is completely bent then you have no ethics at all.

Give it up man... you don't have a clue what liberals believe. The FACT (which is true whether you choose to believe it or not) is that most blacks vote Democratic... why? Because Republicans adopted the Southern Strategy and embraced the more racist elements of our population. Most people will not vote for someone whom they know discriminates against them.

... but do carry on, you willfully ignorant ass.

gerrymander: Is the assertion here that if they're not active in the organization, that somehow makes them not black? Or is it that the votes for Romney-supporting African-Americans don't count? Ooh, there's a slogan for you:

Exclusive advocacy organizations tend to look down on anyone who isn't a member but could be. It's illogical, it's stupid, but it's really common. Unions call it the "free rider problem" and it's essentially pretending that you're the personal jesus of (in this case) every black person in the world and being offended that they don't bow down and worship you for you awesome contribution of paying 10$ a year to some random advocacy group.

Though, that said, if the GOP actually was padding the audience with flunkies it wouldn't be the first time by any means. They seem to do that more than their counterparts (in ostensibly nonpartisan appearances, obviously in any town hall meeting or rally the audience is stacked by default and everyone knows it).

The assertion is that Romney attempted to stack the deck by bringing in people who would cheer for him no matter what and that those people aren't members or supporters of the NAACP, in order to make it appear that the NAACP supported him

But that gets us back to my point. The NAACP doesn't position itself as representing some liberal blacks. It advances (heh) itself as a representative of all blacks in America. Complaining that Romney brought his own support directly undermines that presentation. It's an outright admission that "we don't associate with those people" is a valid form of discrimination -- ironic, considering the source.

So you are saying you would be OK with gun hating hippies showing up at all the NRA meetings simply to boo and hiss?

Have been since I was 18. I do understand some people call me a "lib" though. That doesn't make me one, nor does my refusal to eat from the lunatic nutbag trough, buy into wild conspiracy's, regurgitate talking points or act like an Authoritarian puppet voting against my own interests. I see no reason to subscribe to side "A" or side "B". However, I can tell the difference between George Zimmerman and Charles Manson and one is not like the other.

How did he hit a home run again?

From the looks of it, it's the equivalent of the AL saying they won the All Star Game even though they got their asses handed to them 8-0.

It sounds ridiculous to say that Romney brought in supporters to the NAACP convention. Is Romney in charge of credentials and the NCAAP not in charge of its own convention. I don't understand how he could do that.
