"There's been a lot of talk about women and women's issues lately, as there should be. But I do think that the conversation has been oversimplified," the president said at a White House forum on women and the economy, two key issues in the 2012 campaign. "Women are not some monolithic bloc. Women are not an interest group. You shouldn't be treated that way. Women are over half this country and its workforce."

As I said: there is no objectively existing "right" to have an abortion: this concept was invented out of nothing by the Supreme Court decades ago, but that decision did nothing to create an objectively existing "right". All so-called "rights" are merely collective expressions of desire, and are fictions in the sense that they are granted to us by our rulers and could not be enforced at all without the threat of force at some level to uphold them. They do not possess a self- sufficient existence of their own.

This was my original point: that the pros and cons of abortion are not settled by one side arbitrarily claiming to have magically discovered a "right" which means that their opponents are now obliged to be silent forever. This is merely wishful thinking at best, and a kind of totalitarianism at worst.

EvilRacistNaziFascist: After reading TFA it looks as if all Michelle Fields was saying was that women care about far more important issues than abortion and contraception, and that trying to win over the female vote by focussing exclusively on these subjects is patronizing and demeaning. This is correct.

It should also be pointed out that a large number of people in the anti- abortion movement, if not the actual majority (as is the case where I live), are women. The attempt to use hysterical shaming language against conservatives by claiming that they allegedly hate and fear women (because liberals can read minds, of course) has the effect of stigmatizing anti- abortion women as somehow self- loathing, self- betraying, not quite "real" women etc. etc.

Any person or group, for whatever reason or motivation, that attempts to force their religious, political views and prejudices on another segment of the population, deserve ridicule, contempt and even hate. Well, lessee....

The party that continues to say I shouldn't be allowed access to health insurance is preventing me from purchasing my own contraception; the party that is actively working to close down free women's healthcare centers across the country is preventing me from obtaining contraception at a lower price; the party that continues to insist that only whores need birth control; the party that is running abortion providers out of their states on a rail in flagrant violation of the Roe and Casey decisions; and the party that tells us that pharmacists should be allowed to refuse to provide birth control and morning-after pills because Jesus.

Acknowledging

that women are sexual beings is good. Women being "reduced to sexual beings" above all other concerns, per TFA's claim*, is bad, though it'd hardly be a new thing. In that sense, I'd also argue that forcing women to be virginal is just as much a reduction as expecting them to all be sexual (and then judging them as whores and sluts where men aren't typically given such labels), since it places their sexuality or lack thereof ahead of other traits.

If conservatives were concerned about acknowledging women as sexual, they wouldn't spend so much time shiatting on ways to enable women to have sex safely. Not like conservative figureheads have a good track record of liking sex in general, though...unless male prostitutes are involved, I guess. Male prostitutes: the symbol of conservative distaste for both sex and women!

I didn't know that not actively restricting a woman's access to birth control (an actual small government move) was now a big government thing.

Guess you learn something from manly conservatives scared of women every day. Who can be surprised by this, though? They're small government that needs the big government's help to keep gays from entering the same social contracts straights can, who keep vasectomies legal for men while restricting access to pharmaceutical contraceptives to women, who are only crying because they're tired of liberals playing the victim.

Of course, in the case of my rant, it's actually true. In the case your deranged misogyny (I know, I know, you love women... in the kitchen), it's nothing more than your fury that women are demanding a small government that doesn't intrude in their medical affairs, and you need to find a way to desperately frame GET THE F*CK OUT! as HELP ME, HELP ME!

From Living with a Narcisssist:

Projection

Often the narcissist will criticise you for things which you are not guilty of but which in fact the narcissist is guilty of. An example of this is that the narcissist may accuse you of being angry when in fact it is the narcissist that is showing signs of anger. People who live with a narcissist, therefore, can often be accused of being selfish, inconsiderate, envious, dishonest, arrogant, etc. (i.e., the very traits that are typical of narcissists).

By way of example,

Family member: why did you just lie to me there?
Narcissist: you are the one who is lying

Projection is considered to be one of the ego's defence mechanism. It involves attributing our own unacceptable feelings to others. In this way we rid ourselves of some of our own unacceptable feelings.

When a narcissist delivers a lot of criticisms to someone, sometimes those criticisms can reveal either what the narcissist is secretly thinking or doing or what the narcissist is secretly planning to do.

Your argument is there are no reproductive rights, but rather this is a fabrication, as are all rights, and therefore one should not use the term; except use of "reproductive rights" is a tacit agreement on the necessity and goodness of reproductive rights, just as "freedom of speech" or "right to bear arms" are a tacit agreement on the necessity and goodness of expression and self-protection rights.

Further, I believe the majority of folks in the United States agree on women having reproductive rights, but the argument comes to what this means. For instance, few people would want to restrict the amount of children a woman could have. Therefore, part of reproductive rights is the right to have as many children was desired and biologically able. We have established one of the reproductive rights we mean when we say "reproductive rights", then. We do the same with the ability to protest or have an opinion without government recourse as rights we mean when we say "freedom of speech".

Grables'Daughter: Lionel Mandrake: Well, FOX knows all about reducing women to sexual beings

[4.bp.blogspot.com image 447x588]

Do you think any of these women were hired for their journalistic excellence?

I'm trying to figure out what each of those people has in common, but I just can't put my finger on it.

That Fox apparently recruits their female anchors from the Children of the Corn? Though their superpowers seem to have been replaced dysfunctional frontal cortexs.

Cletus C.: How many women sit around lamenting the lack of birth control in this country?

More than 15 million. In 2006, there were 17.5 million U.S. women who were in need of publicly-supported contraceptive services. Link

Bloody William: Shouldn't it be a woman's right to choose whether she is a sexual or non-sexual being, and to what extent of either she wishes to pursue?

You know, exactly the options Democrats are trying to preserve and Republicans are trying to rip away?

I thank my lucky stars my wife chooses to be a sexual being. These dirt bags would call her a dirty whore and I would hurt them for it. I'm the only person with that privilege.

She takes the pill so we can do more boning. Suck on that republitards.

Did I get it right?

And rich women are doing it perfectly:
-swan around buying expensive stuff
-pay an Ivy-League student for her eggs
-have the eggs inseminated with your hedge-fund manager's sperm
-have the zygote inserted into the womb of an impoverished Indian woman
-collect blonde-haired blue eyed-baby when it's born
-have the child raised by nannies

/no job!

What does the GOP say about middle class women that stay at home with the children because hubby makes enough for that to be a reality, but they vote Democrat because the GOP has pissed them off so bad they will never vote for a Republican for as long as they live?

//I'm guessing it's something like DIAFAGBC(that would be Die in a fire and get breast cancer).

My take as a man on female reproductive rights is I have no take on female reproductive rights because those are female reproductive rights. I would have no problem with votes which cover such rights being the purview of women only, by our representatives or by popular vote.

During a segment praising Karl Rove's American Crossroads super PAC for accusing President Barack Obama of waging a "war on women"...

Aaaaaaaaand there it is...AGAIN. Take your worst qualities and ascribe them to your opponent, no matter how removed from fact. This is Karl Rove 101.

How many times do people need this demonstrated before it becomes old hat? What sort of window-licker can't or won't see this as a blatant, two dollar ploy?

"And what they did was they basically reduced the American woman to a sexual being whose sole concern is birth control and cheap abortions," she added. "That is not the American woman. The real American woman cares about the economy, getting a job, helping her family, which is why this ad will be far more effective than the war on women have."

And what better way to help women help their family than by not giving them any chance to control when to start one.
