Was he a wannabe hockey player that discovered he was great at hitting golf balls, join the PGA tour, and "steal" victory from his nemesis, all while winning the heart of the unreachable girl?

I think the question we all need to ask is.....why is she still paying a mortgage on 100-year-old cottage that has been in her family for generations? Did she take out another mortgage? That moran.

Ha! That's what I thought too.

Having an enlarged heart is a very serious condition and I hope the kid gets better.

Cool kid. Can we clone him to help the other 30,000,000 or just claw back the bankster's giveaways and pay off everyone's mortgage?

So, he basically took money donated to help the terminally ill and instead spent it on paying off grandma's mortgage?

That's actually less sweet than it is kinda shady as hell.

Plus, if the house has been in the family for a hundred years, why in the holy hell is there a mortgage on it at all?

Sounds like she took out a home equity loan to pay for needed repairs. Probably not completely unreasonable for somebody on a limited income living in an older house.

Probably had to in order to pay for medical bills.

Reminds me of the wildlife conservationists who rescued this injured seal and then spent hundreds of thousands of donated money to nurse it back to health. Finally, the day comes to release it back into the wild. They open the cage, it totters out, rambles down to the shore and is promptly devoured by a whale. The look on their faces defined exactly how we're all going to feel next June.

Why does 72 year old grandma not have medicare coverage?

In any case, taking charitable contributions for one thing and then giving them to family members to pay off bills is definitely not kosher.

Probably. And I'm tired of everyone using the illness excuse. My mother went through chemo. We took her to her chemo sessions, some lasting 6 hours others were 5 days a week for 1 hour, all took plus 45 minutes away, an hour and a half round trip. Plus running around getting her medicines, cat scans, regulars doctor appointments. All while working our regular jobs. It's tough, but I we didn't ask for a handout, we just worked harder. 5 years of that, it was tiring, but we know we did it honestly.

10 grand is nothing, get a part time job as a Walmart greeter biatch

Oh, well that's OK then. The article didn't mention that.

I thought that too until I read the bit about her having foster kids. If any of them are special needs, he didn't break his charity's mission by helping grandma because he might also have been helping sick kids.

To those saying he misused donations, you need to read what I'm posting below FTA. He made a special plea for donations to help his grandma save her home. He did not divert money.

FTA...01/05/2012

Hi Friends,

I want to help someone who is very dear to me for my next dream... My Grandma has fallen on hard times and is going to loose her home. My Grandma incase you don't know her has a heart of gold. She has given so much to our community since I can remember!!! She has done Foster Care ever since I was born and has helped 100's of children who would not have had a safe place to stay in the middle of the night when their own parents were not able to care for them. Her home will go for auction on Feb 15th. Please help me save her home so the kids of Portage Cty in need still have a place to go that is safe!! I want to give her her home back for Valentine's Day!! I need to rasie $10,000 by the end of Jan to help her. It seems like sooo much money but if I have 400 friends who can spare $25.00 I can give her this gift!! Only 200 friends if they give $50.00. To ensure I am honest you can view the sale on the portage cty website Janice Sparhawk Vs Portage Cty Bank. Please help me save my Grandma's house with any size gift you can give!!!! Love, Noah

The article says that the grandson used the non-profit network that he works for / affiliated with to help raise the funds. It does not say that he took money donated for one purpose and diverted it to another purpose, which would be a serious crime. Having a list of names of people who donate can be quite valuable, and that's probably how he got the money so fast.

Not everyone has the means to help in this way, but what the grandson did was awesome. Moreover, grandma uses her house to help foster kids, so this is a double win.

dukeblue219: Sounds like she took out a home equity loan to pay for needed repairs.

Hopefully not for anywhere near the full value of the house.

The median house value in Stevens Point is only $110k. No idea if this 'cottage' is above or below that. But, it's likely that even a full-value mortgage with taxes/insurance wouldn't be $1000 a month. To be over $10k behind suggests she probably hadn't been paying her bills in over a year.

Where did she expect the money to pay said mortgage to come from when she was 72? Most people don't find work at that age. Of course, what ninny bank loans a 72-year-old a second mortgage without a steady income?

I'm definitely getting more Republican on this now that I'm on the 'capital' side of the fence. I'm selling my childhood 4-bed house in small-town Kansas on a contract-for-deed. Taxes, insurance, and paying me... just under $400 a freaking month. Cheaper than renting a trailer in the same town. If I kick them (as I need to), they're homeless (no chance they have enough for a deposit). Both have jobs. Have cable and cell phones. But they still get months behind from time to time. Because they're drama-prone Gen-Y idiots.

"And I really love playing in her big yard."

So the truth finally slips out - it was all just a self-serving scam.
People like this guy make me sick.
