Clearly I'm extremely cynical because when I heard the NPR report about Romney getting booed speaking to the NAACP I instantly figured he was going for low-information white voters, especially since he didn't mince words (something he's not exactly known for) and tossed out 'Obamacare' like an epithet. The follow up here proves it as far as I'm concerned.

Politics is an ugly business.

unyon: This is generally a pretty fair assessment. That said, it's important to note that, even in single-payer systems, insurance companies still play a large and active role. They would never be 'froze out'.

I was merely noting earlier that the ACA ISN'T really a great fix. It is one that is a transitional one, but one that is going to flush a LOT of dollars towards the insurance industry. It is a patch, but not a real fix, and in the interim, there is going to still be a lot of fleecing of the taxpayers to pay for a fair amount of bonuses in the private sector, and paid for with taxpayer cash.

I was against Romney's version of this in Mass for the same reason. It is not quite bait and switch, and it DOES get folks covered, but it not the most efficient plan, just the one that will get broad support because folks with a LOT of cash would like to keep it rolling in...

A fair number of Americans understand the ACA. Some of us understand the reasons it was adopted, but we don't have to like it...

tenpoundsofcheese: what billionaires are not paying any taxes at all? How are they getting tax breaks? CItation?

the CBO would disagree with you as the top 20% pay 94% of taxes.

1) Top 20% != billionaires. From that CBO report: "Households in the highest quintile received...$218,800 per household."

2) Neither your cited congresscritter nor the CBO report he cited say "94% of taxes", but "94% of individual income taxes."

If by "difficult to imagine" you meant "predicted", then yes.
