So kids were being abused by adults to gain power and no one did anything about it? So how is this different than all other college football programs?

is this a thread where rape is funny or awful?

I was discussing this with my wife this morning. Joe Pa wrote that "this had nothing to do with the football program".

I disagree. It became about the football program the moment you decided protecting the reputation of your football team was more important than protecting children.

Andrew Wiggin: is this a thread where rape is funny or awful?

It's awfully funny.

Reposted from the other PedoState thread:

Can't believe i'm watching Matt Millen STILL trying to deflect blame from Paterno by saying "it was extremely poor leadership from the top". A-hole.

Fark you Paterno, glad your precious football program enjoyed a few more years of success. It only cost some more poor kids getting raped. Seems like a fair trade.

...and we're done here.

FTFA: Although concern to treat the child abuser humanely was expressly stated, no such sentiments were ever expressed by [Paterno et al] for Sandusky's victims.

if you still support or contribute to Penn State then you are defending child rapists and their accomplices. It's really that simple.

It's probably also worth asking yourself how you became the kind of person who would put his love of a football program ahead of his disdain for child rape.

2012-07-12 10:13:54 AM
... and they would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids.

Why did PSU protect Sandusky? What did he have that they needed/wanted?

2012-07-12 10:14:02 AM
reading about this makes me physically ill. part of me wants to not read anymore, but part of me wants to know that the victims are getting their due, which makes me read more. i feel very sorry for those in happy valley right now, some of my friends work and live there and this continued craziness must be.....overwhelming? disgusting? saddening? all of the above?

Were people many years younger than the age of consent getting anally and orally raped by adults by football staffers in all these other college football programs?

Oh look, someone so morally farked up that they equate child rape with college athletes not receiving a paycheck. How farked up do you have to be to use the rape of little kids to advance a collegiate athletic salary agenda? goddamn youre a piece of filth.

So, how is Penn State ever going to attract any students? Who'd want to go there?

The Muthaship: Death Penalty.

Nuke the school from orbit. This isn't a football-only problem; it was a whole university problem. If Harvard Law School had a similar cover up, we damn sure wouldn't be calling to just kill Harvard Law.

I can't wait for people to keep sticking up for Penn State.

Can't add anything new - I'm just glad this is official and not just rumor anymore. Sandusky starts a program for troubled kids so that he can 1. Have his choice among the vulnerable and 2. Make himself feel like he's helping, which more than makes up for the raping and Penn State decides that ruining multiple innocent children's lives is totally worth it if the team and school look good. I want to see everyone who covered this up in prison, and Paterno was as guilty as anyone. His fear of reprisal probably served to stress his body and made him die faster than he would have otherwise. These are evil men.

How to tell if you will be raped at Penn State.

Are you a boy visiting Penn State? You might be raped.
Are you a boy visiting Penn State and hanging out with Jerry Sandusky?

Ah, the second in the believer playbook: Shame. When someone comes in and merely questions your belief, you immediately label them an enemy so as to shame them into the "right" position, or barring that, counting coup.

/But I doubt you'll hear this, because you've got me plonked for actually using my brain.

Trust me, the cult members will be out in force soon defending JoePa, and they'll keep sending their kids there. If nothing else, this incident has taught me a lot about the power of denial and how deranged many of the residents of Central PA are.

I would say you sound butthurt over sports joke in a Fark thread, but I don't think "butthurt" is a good word to use here.

They all stood by and did nothing even though they knew what had happened, and turned their backs to what might happen in the future to more kids. The worst crimes in world history were allowed to happen because people stood by watching and did nothing.

I feel nothing but contempt and disgust for everybody involved in the act and cover up, and sorrow and remorse for every kid that had his life farked up by Uncle Jerry and his silent enablers.

FU and your holier than thou, protect the brand at all cost d-bags, Penn State.

mainstreet62: Why did PSU protect Sandusky? What did he have that they needed/wanted?

Two things - the reputation of the football program brings in a fortune in alumni support. Second, Sandusky's charity (victim farm), the Second Mile program, was an advantageous business partnership for Paterno and other school officials. As a non-profit, Second Mile provided a ton of tax angles for various business deals.
