See, I know there's a new model on the horizon, so if I just hold out a little bit longer I can get the new model. But when that comes I know there's yet another new model on the horizon, so if I can hold out just that little bit longer I can get that model for what the new model will cost. Ad infinitum until my current phone breaks.

When I got my iPhone 4 I had killed an HTC Diamond, which was an old model before the iPhone came out. I was lucky the 4 had come out at that point, Android and iOS 3 didn't know how to talk to Bluetooth keyboards (which my business device mimics) and the winphone options were pure suck.

/Almost went with a Symbol MC70

Normally I couldn't aggree more but I have a chance to upgrage my phone starting in Oct and I'm desperate to dump my BB Storm 2. The bigger screen is a definte draw though makeing it thinner isn't. I wish someone would make a phone with a hard cover like my old, beloved TI-85 where when you slid the cover on the back it increased the thickness and make it eaiser to hold.

That's beautiful.

To be honest, I'll probably get an iPhone 5 or whatever they're called. I'm getting tired of my blackberry, and I can't upgrade it without buying new hardware, so it's time to just move on to something new this fall when I need to renew my contract with AT&T.

It's not the pre-order, it's the pre-order for the pre-order.

And tomorrow Superjew learns the difference between and prefix and a suffix.

The iPhone's battery is replaceable, it's just not an everyday thing. More like after a few years when it doesn't hold a charge. You know, about the time an Android phone will be falling to pieces.

2012-07-12 12:36:50 PM
Might try to get an iphone4 when this comes out, maybe a 4s if the current trend is to drop everything by $50 on release. Depends on how the data plans are when they come out; Verizon (my current hated provider) is being a gigantic turd about the plans, so of course the grass looks greener at ATT. Sprint's out of the question, as their service is patchy where I live and commute.

Another new propitiatory input to charge the thing, or so they say? That alone was enough to say meh to. A new input to increase or expand a device's functional state is a good thing. A new input that does nothing else but line the pockets of a developer because only they can sell it? Nope.

Smartphones, what a 1st world problem.

I presume that in due course all the people who are pre-ordering black ones for whenever the hell it comes out will pre-order white ones for six months later.

Yeah, those removable batteries are so great. You get to have a device that drains all of its power so easily that it is incredibly important, rather than a device that was built with a battery that lasts long enough in the first place, for a much less bloated OS.

Not to mention how much of a pain the android OS is to program for, unless you are writing a rather useless and ugly app. Try designing an innovative app for a device with such massive fragmentation on a budget of any kind. iOS is designed with the developers in mind, and not the abomination google created.

Machine vision apps on iOS. Not even bothering with android.

Me: I'd like a HTC Evo please.
Sprint: Sure, here ya go. Enjoy.
Me: Thanks!
Sprint: Oh by the way, you bill just went up 50 bucks a month.
Me: The hell for?
Sprint: Well for all that 4G bandwith you got now.
Me: Well that seems cool, but I am looking at it now, and I don't have a 4G signal.
Sprint: Oh, we don't offer it in your area.
Me: When will I be getting it?
Sprint: Oh who knows. Probably before you hit menopause.
Me: I'm a guy.
Sprint: We know.
Me: So....I'll be getting a refund?
Sprint: You must be new here.
Me: What good does paying for a service that you can't even offer me do?
Sprint: Well, next time you go to a major city, you can use it.
Me: Cool...I guess.
*later*
Me: Hey, um, I was standing in the middle of downtown Richmond, and there was no 4G service. It said there was and showed one bar, but when I connected, it all went a way again. I don't know if it was a rouge signal from space, or you guys were playing a trick on me.
Sprint: No, we said a *major* city.
Me: Richmond is the capital of Virginia. Home state to the CIA and about half of the Navy.
Sprint: Not major enough. You need to go to New York City. Between Shlomo's deli on 3rd and Wang's dry cleaning on 7th st. 4G service there is straight tits. Or if you go to California, Tom Cruise has 4G service avaliable between the eastern side of his house and his garage.
Me: I hate you so much.
Sprint: Give us a quarter, and we'll let you call someone who cares.

What the shiat are you talking about? Everyone with an iphone is charging the thing or has a dead battery at some point in the day. I see it all the time. It's not any better with any other maker. I get about two days if I turn off internet when I'm not using it, things like that, prob the same with an iPhone. They all are power hogs. But at least I can pop a second battery in if I wanted to. The non-removable battery is a prettey minor drawback. I had an internet tablet that had a removable battery. I bought a spare battery and charger, but it was a real pain keeping the back-up battery charged. Eventually I quit carrying it around when I lost the device and bought a second one. Having a second charger at work, and one in the car was much more usefull at work.

After the battery becomes unusable after about 4 years, spending $80 for an out of manufacture replacement battery is less likely than using that money to upgrade.

/I would opt for a device that allowed for a hard tipped stylus for precision work rather than be able to use two finger gestures. Link

Removable batteries allow me to install a larger battery. You know, because I'm a man and do not need a phone that weighs 34 grams and is 4 microns thick.

With this wonderful battery I can enjoy all the power-hogging "luxuries" like leaving 4G on, and still get 12 to 24 hours of battery life. The iPhone battery really lasts long enough for you? Your idea of "long enough" and mine appear to be very different.
