This took place in Northern Ireland, so they weren't British. If anyone wants to argue, just take a look at the cover of any passport issued in the UK - "The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland". Ergo Britain and N.I. are two separate entities which together make the UK.

(looks inside) Oh wait... "Nationality: British". Contradicting themselves.

In any case, I have an Irish passport as well, thanks to the agreement that allows Northern Irish people dual nationality if they want it. So... I don't know what my point is. Just be careful, because such nomenclature is a very serious thing in this part of the world.
