Those wacky cops!

2003-11-14 11:39:47 AM
the article can't stand up to the headline, thus i will not read it.

2003-11-14 11:41:12 AM

*didn't read article

Dodgem = bumper car...

Hasn't anyone ever played Rollercoaster Tycoon?

(game was made in the UK)

2003-11-14 11:43:26 AM
They must be bored...

2003-11-14 11:45:01 AM
OsirisOTheDead Thanks.

So, do they try to dodge each other while in the cars? Those wacky Europeans!

2003-11-14 11:45:43 AM
Great. Instead of even pretending to solve or prevent crimes, Pigs just like to hang out at crappy fairs.

God-Damn I hate those farking pigs. DIE.

2003-11-14 11:47:44 AM
I should have called the cops recently. People were insulting me and throwing objects at me and I was horribly waterlogged. Turns out, I was in a dunking booth.

2003-11-14 11:47:44 AM
Attention riders, make sure your belts are firmly attached. Prepare to enjoy the ride.... Ohhh and by the way, EVERYONE RAM THE LITTLE GIRL IN THE YELLOW CAR

They used to do this at some theme parks. After a while everyone knew not to get in a car that was the only car in that color.

Roller coaster tycoon is the only good non-violent video game.

2003-11-14 11:48:37 AM
I hear Nader's next book is entitled "Unsafe At Any Carnival".

2003-11-14 11:49:02 AM
They were probably just looking for an excuse to grab a corn dog and a couple brews at the carnival.

2003-11-14 11:49:06 AM
Roller coaster tycoon is the only good non-violent video game.

Agreed, but you can kill people in that game too.

I disagree, MarioKart on N64 is the BEST GAME EVER!!!

The article read like a riddle.

Funny, I was thinking the same thing about the headline.

Nonsense. There's no such thing as a fun non-violent video game. What's the point of playing if you don't get to kill someone? I mean, anyone can go out and start a roller coaster company, but how often do you get to go around blowing people away without having to face the consequences?

2003-11-14 11:58:50 AM
Dodgem?

I disagree, MarioKart on N64 is the BEST GAME EVER!!!

Being ultra super mega geek, I look down upon the laxness of console games

Agreed, but you can kill people in that game too.

Oh yea I guess your right.... But the aim of the game is to make loot so I guess its a grey area

I love how cops are always pricks like this and then wonder why people hate them.

cops: "But we risk our lives to protect you!"

Oh, so apparently that gives you the right to be assholes.
*Checks statistics on job related fatalities (see below)*
Wait a second. Police officer isn't even in the top ten. If the risk of dying on the job is what indicates how big an asshole you are, timber cutters should be the biggest assholes out there. And BTW, without timber cutters we wouldn't have houses to live in. So don't give that "society would be lost without us" egotistical bullshiat. That goes for every profession.

The farked up thing is 80% of cops are complete assholes, and people have the audacity to say that it is a few bad apples spoiling the bunch. 80% is not "a few."

The 10 most dangerous jobs
Occupation Fatalities per 100,000
Timber cutters 117.8
Fishers 71.1
Pilots and navigators 69.8
Structural metal workers 58.2
Drivers-sales workers 37.9
Roofers 37
Electrical power installers 32.5
Farm occupations 28
Construction laborers 27.7
Truck drivers 25

Of course, the second story about "no one available" was better than the dodgem tale, even if we have all have heard it before. Even though Bumper cars have always been my favorite, my driving record is excellent.

I spend all day shuffling numbers and budgets and locations and spreadsheets around. I don't see the fun in doing that in a simulation in my spare time.

MarioKart for 64 does, indeed, rule. i'm a-wario. i'm a-gonna win! 'nuff said.

Cookie and Cream for SonyPS is my new stupid fun game.

Playing Devil's advocate here: None of those jobs are people who are directly risking their lives to protect others. A list that has things like firefighters, EMTs and the like would be a better comparison.

Better explanation: power corrupts.

The problem is police have damaged their own standing by abusing their power and in serious court cases (i.e. not traffic court) an officer's word is no longer good enough.

never post while on the phone.

sigh.

I wasn't aware the second one wasn't meant to be taken seriously... I saw it under a joke section.

I'll even ok it with your dad if you want.

LilyConnor will you marry me?

If you ask her really nicely and promise to respect her in the morning, she might sit on your face.

I doubt that comforts the farmer that bravely battled the power takeoff of his tractor just so we could eat, only to lose his arm.

2003-11-14 12:25:53 PM
And the lawsuits start in... oh wait. This was in the UK not the US... silly me.

Just goes to show that if cops have 4 hours to question witnesses to a dodge-'em car collision, they must not have enough guns in that country

2003-11-14 12:26:53 PM
I'd just like to point out. I live in Cannock, Staffordshire (as reference in the story). and this is probably the most exciting thing ever to happen...

2003-11-14 12:27:57 PM
...then they came for the Dodgem Cars,
and I didn't speak up because I never go to the amusement park.
then they came for my demolition derby,
and by that time there was no one left to speak up.

Your town has got to blow then dodgrile (sorry man)

Bannination in 5, 4, 3 .....

2003-11-14 12:38:30 PM
Where did you get the 80% figure? Is that like some nationally recognized figure for the percentage of bad cops in any department?

2003-11-14 12:43:47 PM
76% of all statistics, including this one are made up on the spot. That's where he got it Farkher. Personally I've experienced asshat cops about 40% of the time.

2003-11-14 12:57:23 PM
I derived that statistic by counting the number of times I said "what an asshole" while watching "Cops" and then dividing by the number of cops.

Doing a search, the only other reference I could find to this story was as a 1 liner in the Sun which gave a different # of hours. Someone want to give another source on this or should we call B.S.?

Wow, two cop threads and no Lilly yet.

Granted, even I can't argue on the side of the cops in either one of these.
