Pretty much. Hannity and O Reilly were praising the boos, Romney didnt back down or change his message to pander. He isnt a flip flopper!

2012-07-12 09:12:16 AM
All the pundits were saying that last night too. It's retarded because Romney doesn't need to appeal to his base... they're his base. He needs independents. Because as much as they despise Romney in the South, they despise The Dark Matter even more.

2012-07-12 09:12:33 AM
Yes, why would I be so naive as to believe Mitt Romney's own words?

2012-07-12 09:12:37 AM
Romney has stated as much himself. If he wanted the Black vote, he should have spend some time talking about issues the NAACP cares about.

2012-07-12 09:12:43 AM
I think I can reach across partisan lines and say that we should all join together in mutual dislike for this shrill politician.

Yea, media stunt. Hell Murdoch probably gave him the idea.

He does talk about the issues that the NAACP cares about often, but it's generally to say that he's going to do the opposite of what will help them.

2012-07-12 09:16:25 AM
He probably went in hostile to them because he thought it was the National Association for the Advancement of Car Pooches.

He tried that, but he was unable to determine who let the dogs out.

Weird. The article opens with Pelosi saying Romney made a political calculation, and then never says what Pelosi thought Romney might gain.

No wonder no one wants to pay for news anymore.

Nancy Pelosi believes Romney deliberately got himself booed at NAACP speech, so he could appeal to racists.

He's running against a black guy; he does not need to appeal to racists.

2012-07-12 09:19:04 AM
Romney can't be stupid enough to think he could win votes from blah people.

It's obvious who he was trying to appeal to. Even though he probably already had their votes.

Yes, thank you. Solidifying the solidified is solidly pointless.

Romney was there because it would have been a bigger outrage in the "liberal media" if he didn't show up.

Watching NBC, their take:

Mitt Romney was briefly booed when he called for the repeal of healthcare reform, but left with a standing ovation.

No mention of Mitt telling them that he was the right guy to represent the interests of Black people.

2012-07-12 09:23:53 AM
Assuming that was the plan, they could always just ignore any inconvenient facts like a standing ovation. It wouldn't be the first time someone edited video for political gain *cough*Breitbart*cough*.

2012-07-12 09:24:50 AM
I keep hearing about the standing ovation Romney got at the NAACP speech, and yet I don't see any mention of it in mainstream news reports or video of it on YouTube. Whether or not it happened (the audience might have just been polite), it seems like an awfully flimsy straw to be grasping at--if it even happened.

I disagree with Pelosi, I think Romney is just awkward and tone deaf but was genuinely trying to reach out to African Americans.

Except, leaving out parts of the speech that would make him look good in the black community is not the same as editing someone's story out of context to make her look like a racist.

Thanks for playing... Johnny, tell him about these great consolation prizes!

Yes, he does. Many of those racists are unenthusiastic about the out-of-touch rich guy with the religion they think is a cult. Remember, the primary was an exercise in the base showing that they want anyone but Mitt. There is a chance that a good portion of those racists will stay home. The speech before the NAACP may just very well energize those people, letting them know that Mitt is one of them in the way that really counts.

Bill O. had Jimmy j.j. Walker on his show last night, trying to sell the idea that black people don't have to vote for Obama. It's an effort to peel off voters. It's not a conspiracy, it's just ham fisted pandering.

I think the real problem for Mitt is how long he took to recover from being booed while speaking, and how poor a job he did at it. If he was expecting boos, and still took that long to try to recover, he's boned when he has to think on his feet in a debate this fall.

He said it TO the NAACP. He got right up in their faces and showed them what-for. Yes, that's an appeal to his base like never before. And he needs to do it. If even 10% of them stay home, he is screwed.

The standing ovation was a respect thing, not an endorsement of Romney.

2012-07-12 09:36:42 AM
Something like 7 million African Americans will gain health insurance through Obamacare, so going in there and joyfully declaring that you're going to repeal it without providing any kind of alternative was a gigantic FU to the audience.

Judging by Apollo Theater rules, a standing ovation is the black communities way of endorsing the person on the stage. As it scares off the guy in the clown suit that drags you off stage.
