Because people have fleeting memories?

5 of the 20 are from the last two years.
11 of the 20 are from the last 12 years (including first 5).
6 of the 20 are from the 90s.

Altogether 17 of the 20 have happened in the last 22 years.

Apollo Launch
Moon landing
Nixon's resignation and departure for California
Walter Cronkite announcing the Vietnam War to be unwinnable

The creator of the list is a pop-culture tool.

Alonjar: The article says they asked for the most "universally impactful" moments, not the same thing as powerful. Man landing on the moon was awesome... but how much did it actually impact peoples day to day life?

If your day to day life was effected by the Casey Anthony verdict, you need a life.

Wow, rea;;y?

Casey Anthony and Whitney Houston are on this piece of shiat list? I can deal with some of the others, and I totally understand some of them. Hell, I can even understand the whole Lady Di thing, but the Whitney Houston thing is a farking joke, and i never watched a second on TV containing Casey Anthony, I got all I needed on that from the interwebs.

Fleeting memories? More like a total inability to recognize anything that happened outside of their lifespan. If these polls honestly represent the opinions of the public they demonstrate the astonishing ignorance of people nowadays. Whitney Huston's drug-addled death is in no way more memorable than the moon landing, or even Nixon's resignation speech. Nobody will ever ask you where you were when you heard the Casey Anthony verdict. Saddam's capture, trial and execution? That took years, were people really riveted to the television the whole time waiting for that to play out?

I'll bet Nguyen Van Lem could have thought of a moment that should be on the list.

And this, ladies & gents, is why China will have a moon colony while Americans are still thinking that the Earth is flat and rides on the back of a giant turtle.
