For me, these guys (and the show as a whole) definitely freaked me out quite a bit:

Lollipop165: I was terrified of Chucky.

Chucky was pure genius. The beauty is that he could be underneath your theater seat RIGHT NOW!, and you wouldn't see him coming. It's like when I went to see Arachnophobia and they had a low ceiling outside the auditorium door(Maybe 7 feet), and it was dark. They put up a bunch of fake spiderwebs, and although the movie was silly, you still had to collect your nerves to walk under it.

The flying monkees scared the crud out of me for about 3 years. This was when we had to wait for the annual holiday broadcast of the movie since videos weren't invented yet.

The angel named satan from the 1985 "The Adventures of Mark Twain" should be on that list.

The_Sponge: gunga galunga: Exactly. He's an eccentric who thought the group would enjoy a little thrill ride.

But to this day, I still can't decide if he is really that furious at Charlie, or is he just hamming it up to see if that would drive Charlie to sell the Everlasting Gobstopper to Slugworth. I'm sure that Gene Wilder played it so that it could be read either way.

IMHO, he was hamming it up..

You may be right but there something about his delivery of the "so shines a good deed" line from The Merchant of Venice that makes me think he was surprised by the gesture and felt guilty about his tantrum. Even if he he was playing it up, I'm sure he was still a little piissed off over the Fizzy Lifting Drinks. Charlie and Grandpa Joe did break the rules just like all the other kids. They were only one burp away from having an Oompa Loompa song dedicated to them.

Mmmmkaay: PacManDreaming: Sorry, but that list fails without Mr. Barlow.

It also needs to include the Glick boys.

Gah, Danny Glick and the rest of the Salem's Lot night nightmares ... shivers.

The_Sponge: dallylamma: There was a movie that I saw part of as a kid that really terrified me. I've been trying to figure out what it was for years, maybe one of you can help.

From my vague recollection it was a Sword and Sorcery type flick. There were two scenes that burned into my memory and still kind of freak me out today.

The first was children being sacrificed by being thrown into a furnace or lava pit. The hero manages to rescue a kid and smuggles it back to the kid's parents in a large sack carried over his shoulder.

The second involved a terrified man running through a group of motionless cloaked figures that looked like Ring Wraiths or Dementors. The man runs into one of the figures and is absorbed into the cloak, seconds later the cloak opens and a collection of slime covered human bones drops on the ground in front of the figure.

Any ideas on what movie this might be?

Beast Master

Thanks! Note to self: Never watch Beastmaster

2012-07-12 03:06:08 PM
I read it as The Child Catcher - Chitty Chitty Gang Bang (1968), which is an entirely different movie.

2012-07-12 03:06:51 PM

Evil Mackerel: The angel named satan from the 1985 "The Adventures of Mark Twain" should be on that list.

Seriously. That's stuff's messed up, and I never saw it until a couple years ago.

Heck most of the characters in that movie creeped me out. Great Owl, Nicodemus, and Jenner. The scene with all the scared onlookers when Justin cuts Jenner, and the follow-up when Sullivan throws the dagger into Jenner's back.

Scared the crap out of me as a kid... and this is a Disney film!

Disney used to make dark films. Go watch "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea".

Look at Snow White. Came out in 1937. A woman gets into a jealous snit because a mirror says that her step-daughter is prettier. So naturally she asks a huntsman to take her out to the middle of nowhere, kill her, cut out her heart, and bring it back so she can have it as a trophy.

sovietski: I wish the Lot would be made into a feature film, but then it would probably suck.

The 1979 miniseries got remade as a made-for-TV movie in 2004, and yes, it sucked. It had Rutger Hauer playing Barlow and he wasn't even close to being creepy looking as Barlow in the original miniseries.

Yeah, I remember that. I didn't watch it simply because, to me, it lacked that ohholyshiat factor.

Then again, I can't really picture any actors/actresses that would do the Lot justice.

/read the book years after I'd seen the miniseries...will NOT own a home with stairs.

Of my childhood? You're gonna laugh, but for me it was McGruff. It was the voice that did it. I literally covered my ears and ran screaming into the next room the instant I realized McGruff was about to open his mouth and say something.
