I thought that Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka was scary, particularly when he started his yelling.

Hmmmmm seems to be a very UK-centric list. I've never even heard of half the characters. And a boy on the show "Grange Hill" is scarier than Death?

I watched Jaws as a kid and had to check to the toilet for shark fins for the rest of the year.^* So, really, giant man-eating robo-sharks should be on the list.

How can you be scared of this? All he wants in a nice curry and some peace and quiet.

That and to reap Rincewind, and really can you blame him for that??

Meh, I grew up on Chiller Theater and Dark Shadows. By the time I was 8, I was completely jaded. The Child Catcher was awesome, Willy Wonka was eccentric but turned out great in the end, and Darth Vader was a cool villain.

The rest on the list...never head of them or never saw them as a kid. I was a teenager when I saw Dark Crystal and could only marvel at the detail and how convincing the puppetry was, but my little brother was definitely scared. I'm a recent Doctor Who fan, so only first saw Davros maybe last summer. I was in college when Return to Oz came out and still haven't seen it all the way through. As for Pennywise, I had already read It and hated it--only watched It for Tim Curry. When I did watch It, all I could see was Tim Curry doing an AWESOME job and acting circles around Richard Thomas.

The The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang dude reminded me of a cross between Alice Cooper and the wicked witch from the Wizard Of Oz.

My childhood apparently wasn't very British.

Maleficent didn't scare me, but she gave my sister nightmares.

It also needs to include the Glick boys.

Salems Lot was the first thing I thought of, as well. Barlow left a very distinct impression on my 8 year old self when that aired. A few years later on rebroadcast, my buddy that I was watching it with threw up.
