I'll take a look just to see what Jewel Staite has been up to. Sadly, "up to" is not my bedroom.

You must be new. That wasn't even a slideshow.

Since Firefly is celebrating it's 10th anniversary apparently, I've given up any hope of it returning. At this point, you'd be getting Richard Castle instead of Mal Reynolds, Jessica Pearson (Pearson-Hardman) instead of Zoe, and... um... Steve the Pirate instead of Wash.

/Jury's still out on whether or not River always was a terminator robot.

I really enjoyed the show, I really did but what kind of "behind the scenes" info and "burning fan questions" are there left to ask. Don't they cast and Joss just hear the same damn questions at every panel.
Why'd you kill wash
Is there any chance/talks of Firefly coming back

Seriously, I get it, it was a great show but it was 14 episodes. There can't be any questions the cast hasn't answered a thousand times in the 9 years since it's been off the air.

I would absolutely watch a Firefly with Castle, Steve the Pirate, and a Terminator.

katerbug72: I tried watching the first episode of Firefly yesterday. I was bored. Does it get better?

Which first episode?

The network aired the train robbery first. It is a TERRIBLE first episode.

If you mean the REAL first episode (DVD order) then yes, the first one is a hair slow since they have to describe the universe and introduce all the characters. Plot exposition is a price that must be paid.

katerbug72: I tried watching the first episode of Firefly yesterday. I was bored. Does it get better?

Oh hell, yes.

in Episode two, called "The Train Job," we learn that Jewel Staite has certain ... talents.

In Episode five, entitled "Safe," Nathan Fillion actually reaches out of the TV and slaps you on the ass with one hand while making a "shushing" sound with the other.

In Episode twelve, entitled "The message," we find out the secret to Ron Glass' financial success (he invested heavily in zinc futures in the 1970s).

Sadly, Episode thirteen, which was never completed, was called "Warm Jello Hot Tub." We can only assume what wonders that would have imparted.

Never seen it it. Tried watching Serenity or whatever that made-for-TVesque movie was. Made it about 45 minutes in before I had to shut it off. How this gets a huge rating on RottenTomatoes is anyone's guess. So, if I couldn't stand that movie, I'm damn sure I wouldn't be able to sit through the TV show.

It gets worse because you will eventually come to the realization that you just wasted X hours on what is possibly the most over rated garbage this past century or two. Its Scifi-light for dummies, or Scifi for people that don't like Scifi, or better yet for people that like watching 30+ year old adults with the emotional maturity of 12 year olds act like they are in high school.

Big mistake. Serenity was made with the fans in mind, and is essentially the "end" of the story. I actually just watched the entire series (plus the movie) through last week, and really enjoyed it. But it should be watched in order.

/Hate what they did to the reavers in the movie

Watching the movie without seeing the shows loses a lot of very important context. I think that was the biggest weakness with it, it would be difficult to bring in new fans by simply watching the movie.

Using your time to complain about a the Sci-Fi cred of long-dead TV show on the internet is, of course, in no way like what an adult acting like a high schooler with the maturity of a 12 year old would be doing.

I watched Firefly on the DVDs, I watched Serenity, got pissed that it killed off both of my favorite characters. That said, it's over. It's been 10 years and it was just a TV show. It was pretty good but wasn't that great, both of Whedon's prior shows were better. I don't understand teh cult following that show has.

I saw the movie in the theaters with no prior knowledge of the TV show. I liked the characters enough to go check out the DVDs. So I'm sure it brought in a number of fans like.

I liked Farscape up until the middle of the third season, and then it got old FAST.

It DID give us Scorpius, though -- quite possibly the coolest anti-villain / anti-hero in TV.

I know I've asked this before, but is there anything else really similar to firefly out there? A good drama with scifi overtones that isn't serious and boring? SG spaceship or whatever it was was sorta like it but then went full derp on the reality tv drama style. Eureka is pretty close. Serious show with about equal funny. Anything else? American, foreign, animated, whatever.

I dunno if you'd consider it sci-fi or not, but Warehouse 13 comes to mind, but not much else in the currently running sci-fi type shows.

Otherwise I would have recommended stuff like SG-1 and Farscape.

Typically monsters are scarier when you don't know how they came about. When you give them a bit of a tragic origin that wasn't their fault, you take some of the scary out of the monster and transfer it to the creator.

They seemed scarier in the episode where the guy that witnessed the reaver attack started to turn himself into a reaver in order to cope with what he saw.

Good point.
But that incident brings up something else (which hadn't occurred to me); the reavers were "created" through (deliberate) atmospheric contamination. How does this affect the guy who witnessed the attack? IIRC, he wasn't even wounded before he went emo on himself.
I'm not buying the "coping" thing.

/yeah, I know; science fiction
