caliber rifle fire followed minutes later by the booming of nine rounds
from a heavier rifle, but you can't close off the wilderness. he heard
the snick of a rifle bolt and found himself staring down the muzzle of a

said. "there's a conflict between land and people...the people have to

automobile body work, to gamble, to take pictures, to not have to do

their own gas stations again and to take drugs and have some crazy sex,

Anthem is a shiathole. They never should've been able to build that place so far up I-17 and clog traffic for 20 miles. The best thing that could happen to that place is a firebomb.

Anthem. Suburbia without water.

Some people living in Anthem want a fenced in dog park built now.
"She was actually bitten by a rattlesnake back in October," said dog owner Amber Dorich.

Dorich's dog was bitten on her nose during a walk through their neighborhood.
Another dog, named Tiger, recently ran into an unfriendly herd of javelinas.

"It's scary. It's definitely scary. But we're in the middle of the desert so it's expected. But it would be nice to have a fenced in area so we would feel safe," said Dorich.

Live in a desert. Uh huh...

The women said they're forced to let their dogs off the leash, in their neighborhood, because their pets need exercise.

Forced. Uh huh....

"We're certainly open to exploring possibilities. We've invited the people who are looking for a dog park to tell us about some areas they think are possible," said the HOA President, Craig Boates.

Boates also said the community doesn't have the land for a dog park and a plot would have to be purchased.

Spend money. Uh huh....

Dogs on leashes are welcome at their community park, but owners could face a fine if the dogs are allowed to roam free.

There's also a private dog park, charging a small fee, not too far away.

"For me it's not convenient. I want to see it in the community. I don't want to drive away from here," said Ernst.

I try not to hate people like this.

See answers, people! I see answers you don't want to select. I'd imagine they think they are Tax Enough Already.

No, you're not.

I was reading something just the other day that mentioned the javelina. I think, perhaps, it was Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.

I don't mind the javelina as much as the assholes who think they're pets, feeding them and doing their best to attract the vile little bastards.

If those jackasses hadn't convinced the javelina that people are just food dispensers, I wouldn't have to run them off on a daily basis and occasionally be forced to more extreme measures.

I think you're reading far too much into this.

I suspect most dog owners would prefer a nearby dog park than one far away, and I don't see what you see in what you quoted to suggest they are not willing to pay for that.

I just go ahead and hate them, because f*ck you for not thinking of the fact you were moving to a wild, unfenced, hostile neighborhood in the middle of the desert. Next, she'll be complaining because it's all so sandy and dry and would look so much better with a green belt and some large fountains and a canal in the dog park.

I hate these people with the same passion I hate idiots who want to kill mountain lions and bobcats for eating their darling little Chihuahuas and kitties back in the canyons.

The women said they're forced to let their dogs off the leash, in their neighborhood, because their pets need exercise.

If you don't have a big farking back yard, don't get a big farking dog. A small dog can run around your apartment or house. A big dog needs room to run, but the city isn't responsible for providing your dog with a playroom. You selfishly and irresponsibly bought a dog, not caring that you couldn't provide for it. Your stupidity is not my responsibility.

So her solution to the wild animals that run around and harass people and animals, is to let her dog run around to harass people and animals?

Where I live in Phoenix, there is very little hint there is a desert around. All the cacti were intentionally brought in and planted. There are no empty desert lots, just regular empty lots.

I am not sure my kids would recognize the desert until we get on the freeway and drive for 30 minutes or more.

Phoenix down to Tucson and probably up to Prescott is said to be one big megacity by 2050 or something.

Most homeowners don't want to see the desert, they just want cheap housing, and big housing, and a garage for 2-3 cars and a boat or RV and a pool.

Nuke this farking place.

10:40 pm, 103 degrees outside, and a terrible (as in terribly lame and terribly weak) monsoon going on.

I don't know if it's urban island or global warming, but the lightning and monsoons used to be so much better, really wonderful.

ecmoRandomNumbers: Anthem is a shiathole. They never should've been able to build that place so far up I-17 and clog traffic for 20 miles. The best thing that could happen to that place is a firebomb.

They also messed up some beautiful desert to build it. I used to go exploring up there, and it was always nice hitting that stretch coming out of Phoenix before heading higher at Black Canyon City. I think it's still pretty nice on the west side of I-17 over toward Crown King, plenty of area to get out in the middle of nowhere (just take a high-clearance vehicle and a couple of shovels). I don't mind the expansion out along I-10 as much (toward Chandler and the other way out around Buckeye) since out in the flats it's mostly greasewood scrub, but getting into the canyons in the 2000-4000 ft range you start getting some great biodiversity and beautiful scenery.

It's also interesting to note the difference in attitude between Phoenix and Tucson toward living on the urban-wilderness boundary. In Phoenix if someone sees anything other than their own pet their first instinct is to kill it, while the people who live in the canyons coming off the Catalinas in Tucson think it's the coolest thing in the world to see a bobcat strolling through their back yard.

But at this point I have no dog in that race. I left AZ in '99 and have no real desire to move back. I lived in AZ and southern NM most of my life until then and still visit friends and family there once a year or so, but I've come to realize how much I like rain and cool weather.

Sigh. When I lived in LA, there were deer on the freeway (San Diego), and deer, raccoons, coyote, and possible mountain lion within 5 minutes of Dodger Stadium, right next to downtown LA.

In Berkeley, we had deer, raccoons on our very urban street five minutes from downtown Berkeley and a mountain lion running through downtown Berkeley a few years ago.

In Phoenix, we're pretty lucky when we see a rattlesnake within 20 minutes of downtown (Piestewa Park, Camelback and South Mountain), and I've only seen javelina when I get pretty far out of town.

1. Move your yuppie family into new developments on the outskirts of nature
2. Enjoy the beautiful scenery and brag to your friends closer to the city about the wonderful nature
3. Destroy, pave over, kill, demolish scenery since the nature is inconvenient to you
4. When your cheap housing development falls over, or when undesirables move into the neighborhood, move further away to the new outskirts of suburbia
5. All nature is destroyed, congratulations, you win!

2012-07-12 02:04:05 AM
I can't fault them for living in the desert and encountering dangerous wildlife. Millions of us do, I do. It is what we as humans do, we sprawl out into nature and then we have to deal with the animals. I think it is worth it, and I try to coexist, that is why I'm out here, I want to see the animals, not the nasty human creatures. But I can and will fault them for moving into a planned suburban shiathole in a development that only displaces the wildlife, all without water planning.

But I laugh, because they answer to a HOA.
