Back in college some roommates found a lost dog. This one didn't even have a collar, but we spent the next week trying to find the owner. It was a chihuahua that slipped its' collar, and we managed to re-unite her with her owner.

She's only 20, where does somebody that age get 'thousands' of dollars to train a dog?

Also, they do not train assistance dogs like they do for basic obedience. They start training assistance dogs from pups or at a very young age. The dog goes through a very rigorous 24/7 training with handlers/trainers that are specifically trained to be trainers of assistance dogs. They also usually don't spend more than a couple of months with any one handler so that there are no attachments made between the handler and dog. This training also takes a good year or two depending on what it is being trained for.

Don't spend "thousands" a year on dog food for two 100 lb dogs. In fact, I only spend about $500 a year for both dogs. And I don't buy the cheap food either.

That's why it cost thousands. She had to train the dog's hair not to aggravate her allergies.

That's what it's supposed to be. Shiat ain't regulated, though. Not properly, anyway. Plenty of shady people (and well meaning people) claiming they'll service train. I really believe that stuff should be certified in the same way vets and even First Aid is certified. You just can't go onto craigslist and claim you'll teach first aid certification without any real background yourself.

I agree with you. And thank you to you and your friends for trying to do the right thing and not just say 'free dog!' when you found the lost dog. And thank you for not immediately taking it to the pound, where they would have killed it. I have mixed feelings about the pound. It's the first place to check for lost animals,b ut they have so many to take in, and the horror stories out there of people who take animals in, only to go back and discover the animal was killed that day or within days...

If there were an international database, instead of all these little databases which don't really talk to each other, that would be awesome. Like that organization to find missing or exploited children, only for pets.

Usually you can tell when a stray animal is a recently lost pet, even when there is no collar or chip. Assuming its owners took care of it prior to its escape, it will appear well-fed and groomed, at least for a while. How many obese beagles do you see running around freely? Not many. Plus, they often exhibit behavior that indicates training, like responding to commands. That's a major hint that it is a dog someone cares about and is probably searching desperately for, and not some random street dog.

If this girl found an animal that was obviously someone's pet, how can she expect that the previous owner would let her keep it if they ever ran into each other in the future? Yes, she's grown attached to it and all, and I'm sure the dog loves her too, but so does the original family. She should accept that the dog's original owner wants it back and be happy for the kids; lost childhood pets that are gone that long usually never return. I bet they would have let her visit him occasionally, maybe even dog-sit.

There was an episode Of Judge Judy exactly like this where the man lost his dog and a woman bought it from someone around the same time he lost it. His sister saw the dog in a car and the new owner refused to give it back. Judge Judy ordered the dog come into the courtroom and had them put the dog on the ground, and it ran straight to the original owner. It was pretty cool, hope that happens here.

On the legal tip, the dude proved it was his dog, went through the proper channels to inform the authorities and the public that his dog was missing, and the chick acknowledge it was his dog. Apparently Animal Service ITSELF said this was the dude's dog, give it back. While is there a legal battle? Why is she being allowed to keep a dog that isn't hers? Why is her attorney being allowed to quote law which has no standing for their county? Why isn't this case being dismissed in the dude's favor?

Are they seriously going to allow some attorney to 'win' this case through frivolous filings because his client has more money to do so than the rightful owner? What the fk kind of precedent are they trying to set with this case?


I hope Chase goes back to his real family, with Sam Hanson-Fleming. Is there any legal fund for this dude? This is something I'd be willing to pay into, because this is his family. I really hurt for him. I've been there,. on both sides, and what this chick and her family is doing is wrong. Nobody should lose a case which is rightfully theirs, just because the other side can outspend them.
