In his short life, Hank Sr. wrote some of the all-time classics of country music; Hank Jr. on the other hand wrote a few halfway decent shiatkicking songs that were ultimately not too memorable. It's simply no contest.

Yup. Grab a sampler, hire a wizard drum editor, set up AutoTune, and get at least two or three repetitions of every unique bar on each instrument so that you can hack and quantize together minimally competent performances, given enough time in front of the console and preferred editing software.

Honestly, I'm actually tired of hearing too-perfect performances in music, and not just the Top 40 hits either. It's enlightening to listen to recordings from the era before multitrack recording (never mind digital editing) existed, and performances were recorded live off the floor. Everyone actually had to be able to play or sing, often playing other people's compositions learned that morning. I'm sure many more full takes were needed, and major flubs would have wasted a take, but at least it sounded naturally imperfect. Contemporary popular music of many genres has almost entered an auditory uncanny valley; it's almost neat to listen to, but the lack of imperfections is kind of uncomfortable and weird.

If you're referring to protest songs, it should be noted that those are useful precisely because they're oversimplified to the point of stupidity and even an idiot could get 'em. So they're great for being what amounts to slogans. The singers/writers themselves, though, not only do they rarely have any knowledge more in-depth than the simple shiat in their songs, they're usually so dumb that they're under the mistaken impression that they're being subtle.

What I'm saying here is that your point in no way counters mine.
