That's turrible...but true. Even now. Shoot 'em up with painkillers and put them out there.

Why do I feel like this headline is a product of rickythepenguin and his turrible Charles Barkley impression?

Also, he's right. Will someone please explain to me what Blake Griffin is doing on this team? A forward who isn't a jump shooter is not a good look for international play. Can't we just play Kevin Love for 48 minutes?

The 92' squad would crush these guys despite the 12' team having better physical ability.

We would play fantastic, our offense would be fantastic, and you gotta take your hats off to us.

The same reason McDonald's is blocking the sale of french fries by other restaurants during the London Olympics. Or the reason only Coca Cola products will be sold in the immediate vicinity.

Best chance he has of contributing is to go Vince Carter on some Frenchie.

Any time two of Durant/LeBron/Carmelo are on the floor at the same time one of them will be at the 4. Which is good, because Love doesn't really do the defense thing much.

Duh. The 92 Dream Team is probably the best team ever assembled in the history of sports

2012-07-11 11:08:02 PM
92 had the best player in the history of the NBA. It also had Magic and Jordan, so I mean, I think they beat out the '12 squad.

Laettner, Robinson, Ewing, Bird, Pippen, Jordan, Drexler, MaloneK, Stockton, Mullin, Barkley, Johnson

v

Chandler, Durant, James, Westbrook, WilliamsD, Iguodala, Bryant, Love, Harden, Paul, Griffin, Anthony

Yea, sorry, you lose 2012, even with Laettner to shiat all over the awesome. 11 players on the Dream Team are among the top players of all time(maybe you can drop Mullin to get to 10, but it's hard to blame him considering he was on the Warriors).

Some interesting numbers from the 92 squad:

Link

Notable ones:

32 - the closest, in points, an opponent came to the Dream Team in eight games during the Olympics (117-85 vs. Croatia in the gold medal game)
43.8 - average margin of victory, in points, in the Olympics

Oh, and Laettner didn't completely suck:

.90 - Christian Laettner's free throw percentage (18 of 20) which led the Dream Team

They left a spot open for an amateur. At the time Laettner was the most decorated college player out there, much more than Shaq.

Am I missing something or has the 2012 Team not even won a game yet, let alone even played one game?

The only important thing for me is that the 92 team won the gold, so I don't care if Kobe thinks his team could beat them. Now if he wants to argue which team is the most rapiest, we'll have to call Daniel Tosh for a ruling.

Actually, they didn't. Shaq was very, very raw out of LSU, his skill-set consisted largely of catching the ball near the rim and dunking over the other team's 6'6 center. With an in-his-prime Robinson and still very effective Ewing, the team really didn't need a 3rd center with such limited abilities.

Simply put, Laettner was far more versatile. If the NBA bigs got in foul trouble, he was 6'11. If they needed outside shooting, he had the range. If they needed FT shooters, c'mon man.

As unpopular he was outside of CIS, Laettner fresh out of college was a far superior option than Shaq fresh out of college. If you disagree, learn the game, and lurk more.

Barkley was a terrific player, underrated historically (bad luck having a prime that coincided with MJ, but a few guys could've said that), but, by '92, Magic and Bird were washed up, Isaiah was snubbed, and the Dream Team was designed to be a little overrated (most of the roster was slightly post-prime) . The '92 team might be favored over this years bunch, but it's awfully close, and the league today is clearly better than it was in 1992. Hindsight makes '90s basketball look worse, perhaps unfairly (nothing came of good Suns, Sonics, Knicks, Spurs teams, and the Rockets never got to go head-to-head with the Bulls). I think one of history's great questions was, how would Jordan's Bulls have done against a great team anchored by a great center, but we never got to see it (ewing was only near-great, and Jordan split with pre-prime Shaq)

i won't look at the second half, because there wasn't any use of a word that he wasn't convicted of, but i would probably guess that you are right.

now, the '08 team i think could take them, maybe. Johnson and Bird were older. Kobe and Jordan maybe cancel each other out (for argument sake), but Wade could school Drexler (..like Jordan did), Lebron and Barkley would be fun...just not on defense. Malone and Ewing would help the DT92, but Melo (with FIBA rules), and Bosh (who actually played in FIBA rules better than the next) and Howard. Mullins and Stockton help, but younger-ish Kidd, and Redd could nullify, maybe.

i think the Redeem and the Dream team would be a great match up. when a time transporter is developed, that should be the first thing

Most of the players on the 2012 team are better defenders than virtually the entire 1992 team. The game has changed and the defenses ahave gotten much better in the last 20 years. The US's real advantage is they are insanely good at defense compared to every other team.

Plus, players are just more accurate shooters than they used to be.

The current team would destroy the Dream Team.

Carmelo isn't exactly Stonewall Jackson out their either, and Love doesn't mind getting physical down low for the rebounds.

The current team would leave the floor early because they'd have a bunch of busted lips, broken noses, and sore ribs from Bird, Malone, Mullin, Barkley, etc. Plus, they played when zone was illegal(not that every team today features the zone).

Have you ever heard of a guy named Michael Jordan? Or Scottie Pippen? Or David Robinson? Those three guys are better defenders than any one guy you can choose from the 2012 team.

My brother and I saw this comparison between the teams on SportsCenter tonight and they showed where 20% of the voters thought the 2012 team would win.

I looked at my bro and said... 20% percent of those voters were too young to watch the '92 team play.

Isaiah deserved it. The second he acted like a petulant biatch when the Bulls became the new NBA dynasty by leading his team off of the court, he pretty much destroyed any chance at being in with Jordan.

Incidentally, Jordan wasn't the only guy who didn't want anything to do with Isaiah. Hell, Karl Malone probably would have murdered him after the first week overseas.

A lost cause. Try explaining to people that over the last 20 years athletes have gotten better and that what was dominant in 1992 is likely to be mediocre today. Not only have training regiments gotten better, but strategies have been refined and players have been working at it longer. This is true in any sport. The 1927 Yankees would not beat any major league teams, the Klitschkos would destroy Ali and Roger Bannister wouldn't qualify for the state finals for a big high school.
