:( I suspect I would have to go without food for a month to afford that... Or perhaps I could go without some piece of furniture for my apartment.

Geek girls never have to go without geek gadgest. Just find yourself a geek boyfriend with a real job and you should be set.

Wow, I actually got through this post without making some crude remark about you playing with my sonic screwdriver .... d'oh!

Ha! I'm going to graduate school in a couple months, I'm not going to know any geeks with real jobs for a very long time.

Well, you made it almost all the way through the post, congrats! :D

Sadly, that's true. I'm at the creepy age for some young thing about to graduate from college.

Looks cool as hell. The only problem I have is the controls themselves. Motion controls for a universal remote? Dammit my memory isn't that good!

And in "Hungry Earth," the 11th explains to someone that hey can't use the sonic screwdriver to get past a big, wooden door because it doesn't work on wood. The man ways "Rubbish!" and the Doctor says, "Don't dis the sonic!" At least I think he does, though it doesn't sound very English.

And in "Night Terrors," 11 says, and I paraphrase, "I really need to develop a setting for wood; it's embarrassing!"

As good of a rule as that is, I still can't imagine dating either an 18.5 year old or a 32 year old...

Which I why at 30, I didn't pursue an 18-year-old I was, I'm a embarrassed to admit here, very attracted to. So she goes off and starts dating a 28-year-old.

Ouch. I find it weird enough that my 20 year old sister is dating a 25 year old, and I cannot see myself dating someone younger than her (the whole: oh gosh, he's younger than my kid sister factor). Mind you, the only person I've ever dated was about 6 months older than me, so it's hard for me to honestly say (and yes, as an aside, he did buy me just about any geeky gadget I wanted; I was spoiled)

I watched the product video linked in your post, and I have a confession.

In my house, that screwdriver would be permanently locked into the mode where you can make it say "tap on the bottom" over and over.

Hang on... didn't the sonic screwdriver/Jack's sonic blaster work on wood in The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances?

/why do I worry about this stuff
//daleks work well on wood stuff

I have the Magic Wand Remote Control (pops) that this company makes. It's a helluva lot of fun. However, I got it as a Christmas gift, after deciding that spending my own $90 on it wasn't worth it. I still think that's true: great gift, poor investment.

On Doctor Who, continuity is more a suggestion than a requirement.

And in "The Doctor, The Widow and the Wardrobe" a good chunk of the second half of the episode has 11 trying to use his sonic multiple times and getting frustated when he remembers that it doesn't work on wood.

/geek and proud of it
//my geek wife might even let me buy it
//although I might have to buy something nice for her first...

Just let it be able to chain commands into a single gesture... so that I can just one one gesture for "TV" and it sets all the devices.

It won't be like my Harmony, will it?

That would be too perfect.

I simply can not wait until I have this thing operating my entire house. Couple dinky-link receivers, central control system, relays, maybe some X10, and bam! FANTASTIC!
