FTFC: Great contribution! I take it you're one of those string bean thin people? I hate you all!

Hey fatty? If you don't want people to make fun of you for your glandular inability to stop shoveling food into your mouth, don't turn around and make fun of others, mmmmkay?

Does being underweight correlate with drug use? What if you control for drug or alcohol abuse- what happens then?

2012-07-11 05:22:17 PM
No it isn't, subby.

Both are blatant forms of malnourishment.

2012-07-11 05:22:57 PM
Dude on right is totes not "underweight."

I hope the person pictured on the right at the top of that article isn't considered skinny.

Good thought. If I had to wager a guess though, it would be that alcohol abusers are still overweight on average and probably the same for drug abusers.

"...what should my ideal body weight be for this program? Have you made a table for this, or what do you recommend?" - trainee

"Your ideal bodyweight as an ectomorph at 6' 0" will be 214.378 lbs. There. Happy? And if you lose or gain a pound, I will have you killed. It is important to be ideal.." -Rip

For some reason I felt a Mark Rippetoe quote was good here. I chose this one.

I'm 6'2" and at 141 lbs.

I've tried everything to gain weight. Nothing sticks. My metabolism is crazy fast. But I'm not just bones, I am toned a little bit.

I eat more than all my friends; people always ask me how I stay so skinny.

I tell them "It's from all the sex."

/Rather be rockstar skinny and sexually active than fat and alone

Subby sounds fat. :P

2012-07-11 05:31:57 PM
I don't care.

I exercise daily, eat home-cooked meals and try to make sure my life is balanced. I pay my bills on time (stress leads to eating) and try to keep harmony in my house and at work.

I'm fat but I'm okay where I am. If I lose, great, if not, great too, but I plan on just continuing what I'm doing. Wierdly (not really) enough, I've lost 40 pounds in the past four months simply because I walk more (1.5 to 7 miles each day).

I'm a single dad with two kids in a lead position in his company so don't give me that bullshiat 'I ain't got time' excuse.

2012-07-11 05:32:03 PM
I'm okay with this.

*Underweight according to BMI.

a 5'10" person would have to weight less than 130lb to be considered "underweight".

what a dumb article....... most folks who are extremely underweight is due to some sort of disease (cancer etc) or from chemical/drug abuse.
Of course they are 'less' healthy when compared to even fat slobs and more likely to have shorter lifespan.

I'm sure if you compare naturally thin people and obese folks the study itself would give a much more accurate reading..

2012-07-11 05:37:03 PM
I'm 6'3", 165 lbs.

how YOU doin'?

2012-07-11 05:37:13 PM
I'm a 6'0 male for me to be underweight according to BMI I'd have to weight 136lbs or less to be overweight I'd need to weight more than 185lbs. I can see weighing 130lbs at my height is more unhealthy than weighing 190.

2012-07-11 05:37:33 PM
Yep, if we're talking 10 pounds then either way is okay. After that, it's significant advantage heavy people.

A woman 30 pounds underweight will not have the body fat needed to concieve and bear a child. what little body fat she does have is keeping her intact, and her body cannot take the additional burden. Conversely, most women 30 pounds overweight will be able to concieve and bear a child. At 50 pounds overweight, most people can move around and lead a pretty comfortable life. At 50 pounds underweight, most people are on death's door.

Not amphetamine users. You really almost have to force yourself to eat.

So I've heard.

This article is uselessly devoid of details on the study.
God, science reporting is almost universally terrible.

When you get to be my age body fat becomes a balancing act. Too much and you look like you've let yourself go, too little and you look old and wizened before your time.

Interestingly, all the alcoholics I know are regular weight or underweight. Hmm, I don't know any overweight alcoholic people. Not that there aren't any, but it does seem that often alcohol starts to replace food with serious alcoholics and thus they don't get enough calories.

To be honest, I don't care about the health issues in over weight people. They just look ugly.

I rather die a virgin than fark a fat woman.

My only rule is that I won't have sex with a woman who weighs more than I do.

That and don't trust people who say "my only rule is..."

no they get plenty of calories (empty calories), they don't get enough nutrients. (protein, carbs, fats, vitamins.... so on)

This. It's the same with fatties. They don't nearly as little as they think they do.

My personal experience is no doubt skewed from restaurant work.

Also it depends heavily on how we define users. I've worked with some pretty functional folks who consume a lot of artificial happiness.
