Kids today are such little whiny pussies. I had grade school teachers who called us some of that and worse.

2012-07-11 02:31:31 PM
What was the problem? Were they inaccurate?

2012-07-11 02:37:10 PM
Teachers really should just stick to screwing their students, not telling them they're screwed

2012-07-11 02:48:33 PM
Wait, wait, wait. Hold on a second. This man was tenured? And he's currently suspended and facing termination hearings?

This cannot be true. I've been informed that tenured teachers are an unstoppable force, untouchable and almighty minions of the vastly entrenched and all-powerful Teachers Unions, and that the single greatest problem facing education today are the vast, teeming hordes of tenured teachers who each bestride the taxpayers like a colossus.

I'll wait for a more accurate version of the article to be greenlit before I comment. Modmins, please be more careful in selecting accurate links; these blatant trolls really need to stop.

Here's a clue America, if you want more professional conduct from your teachers -then pay them as a professional.

(Of course, we expect everyone we underpay to have a higher paid spouse supporting them)

Is this a surprise? They probably were idiots, trolls, morons. Not sure about the hobbit reference tho, that's kinda odd.

Had a history teacher tell my best friend he could fark up a wet dream. That was on the lighter side of his remarks. He'd probably be fired in this day and age, which is too bad because he was probably the best teacher I ever had.

I thought you were practically unfireable when you reach your tenure?

2012-07-11 04:01:22 PM
I had a biology teacher who used to call the students maggots. When we graduated past the pupa stage, he would call us flies. The first parent-teacher conference of the year put a quick end to that.

2012-07-11 04:03:00 PM
Had a history teacher calling us trogodylites who would never amount to anything but living in our mother's basements! He had a few other good comments that I couldn't recall. I just thought they were amusing. Also thought it was amusing that he had a hot daughter that ended up hooking up with one of my friends that semester.

FTS: and "highly inappropriate conduct towards administrators and other teachers."

Oh, so that's the real reason he was fired.

FTA: Schoenlein added that the amount spent was mitigated by the fact that Togliatti's substitute teacher made $35,000 this school year, compared to the $60,000 that Togliatti would have been paid.

Well, I have a plan to save you a bunch of money next year. And it ain't using Geico.

A tenured professor is never late. Nor is he early. He arrives precisely when he means to.

Did the precious snowflakes feel butt-hurt.

2012-07-11 04:08:10 PM
So this means they're gonna fire all the nasty high school coaches?

2012-07-11 04:09:08 PM
Given how dumbed down the education system is, if kids are failing, then he might be right about his kids being idiots and morons.

For hobbits and trolls, well, there have been a couple of people that I've met who I've called hobbits. Those people who are a special kind of ugly. They type of ugly that makes you ask "I know your parents aren't related, but how much inbreeding was in your family history?"

2012-07-11 04:10:14 PM
What were the remarks against administrators and what was the vulgar language? I have never insulted my students, in the classroom or otherwise, but what was said does not seem to cross the line. There is issue with the students switching classes or being uneasy as a result, but this is a separate issue about whether or not he can be an effective educator. Still, likely agree with the decision to terminate; he seemed unhappy in his position which could be filled by a more capable person.

Because People in power are Stupid: Here's a clue America, if you want more professional conduct from your teachers -then pay them as a professional.

More money doesn't suddenly make you more professional. It just means you have more money.

Of course, I DO support much higher salaries for teachers. Which would thus allow us to hire BETTER and more qualified teachers than the ones we have now. Most of the ones we have now I assume would be let go.

2012-07-11 04:11:44 PM
Sounds like a teacher who was getting burned out. He should have requested and been granted a lengthy sabbatical.

Not to worry. Togliatti has the right to appeal to the Montgomery County Common Pleas Court within 30 days of receiving notice of the decision.

I had an English teacher that had a penchant for sneaking up from behind and employing the Vulcan nerve pinch if you were talking in class. He was cured of this when he mistakenly applied it to the class bully, who promptly punched him in the gut.

Gen-Xer here, graduated highschool in the 90's. Paddling still existed up until I was in 6th or 7th grade. Like others said, there were teachers who said way worse than that. Some of it was tongue in cheek, some of it wasn't, and some of it was well over the line, but that was the exception and not the rule. I don't think anyone ever put too much thought into it, though. Most of it was well deserved. Teachers didn't have to walk on eggshells back then, which wasn't that long ago.

Good thing I have a pretty good brain/mouth filter and use Fark to vent my frustration.

2012-07-11 04:24:21 PM
So would they whine if the teacher called them "geniuses" with a really snotty tone of voice?

He should've been give the key to the city, a medal, and a raise.

Stupid helicopter parents, breeders of worthless crotch-droppings and precious snowflakes.

You can tell by the photo of the supporters that the kids who liked the teacher were the fringe kids and arty cool kids. I'm sure it was the mainstream, preppy, "everyone gets a medal" false-self-esteem snowflakes that complained and "dreaded" the class.

What a shame.

I don't see what the problem is. Most of my accomplishments in life are based upon proving those kinds of teachers wrong. I mean, where are these kids going to get their motivation?

My 9th grade english teacher was this little old lady. She called me some rather mean shiat. When she asked me in class who I though should win the award for best actress that year, I said she should because if she acted her age she'd fall over dead and turn to dust like the other dinosaurs.

One thing she did that would get a teacher fired today, was a kid rode his bike to school, which he did often. He also didn't believe in under arm deodorant or regular baths (he was 17 and his sister was 15, he was in my freshman english class, the sister was in my freshmen science class). She had brought up his B.O. before in front of everyone. This one morning she moved him to the back of the class next to the windows and opened all of them.

From the loving and wise counsel given to them by their instructors at military boot camps, where good citizens who "serve" are made. Alternately: military training is proof enough that the more you abuse someone emotionally, the more they will obey institutional hierarchies.

Hobbits?

2012-07-11 04:39:48 PM
Sounds like those kids won't be well prepared for the real world where they can't just sic the administration on the teacher.

The ones that complained or were otherwise involved in his termination should go through Basic Training and try that with the military. It would be a very entertaining and informative experience for them.

/Thank goodness I graduated from Oakwood - the suburb just north of this school - a long time ago.
//Worse insults were thrown and worse deeds were done with not so much as a peep
///Hopefully Togliatti has the sense to drag it out long enough to make it a losing battle - financially.

My grade nine English teacher called us freaking morons all the time.

And also wombats.

He did teach us the difference between sarcasm and irony, however, which is more than Alanis Morrisette's grade nine English teacher taught her, ironically.

You can't really object to a teacher calling his students freaking morons, hobbits or trolls when it is merely a fact that most of them are.

We would also need to start hiring professionals. Want to teach math? Then you should have to have a farking degree in math. The course-load for the "Education" degrees is a joke. I'm talking a bigger joke than any Liberal Arts degree. That is why only idiots major in them. They aren't smart enough to take anything else.
