It's not surprising to learn that Rmoney thought that going in and stirring up a hornets' nest would win him points with the base.

But to me, this

dailydish.typepad.com

says GET OUT THE VOTE.

Is that real? Please tell me that didn't actually happen.

Seriously, the only reason most thinking people don't think badly of Romney is that they don't know much about him.

Thinking that he was Governor of our Commonwealth for four years makes me want to take a shower.

Also - there was something of a deal made in '08 about how Obama had tried to push out of the way Chicago pols who were ahead of him. Let's wait and see how much we hear about Willard and what he did to poor, overwhelmed Jane Swift.

Coco LaFemme: GAT_00: So he gave his normal stump to the NAACP? Are you kidding me? How inept is his staff?

This is assuming he has a staff. Or that they have more than 1 brain cell between them. I can't believe anyone thought Mitt farking Romney would be the right choice to speak to the NAACP. What next, Barack Obama to address the KKK? Maybe doing his best Clayton Bigsby impression? My God. The fail......it was strong.

He needed to speak with them to get some credibility and dodge the claim that he's ignoring pretty much all non-whites. That said, his staff and he could have tailored the message much better to talk about whatever points he and they might have agreed upon.... even if it was something along the lines of saying that he doesn't think many african-americans are getting a fair chance, so that's why he supports vouchers so they can get into better schools and earn better futures... There are certainly ways he could have done an ok job in front of a less-than-receptive voting bloc... but instead, it looks like they just copy-pasted the usual speech.

He might as well have given a speech at a biker rally saying "I'm going to bring back prohibition"

One does not simply walk into a NAACP meeting and tell them they should not be handed free stuff for their votes.

Pandering and political bribing of the black community is why they are in such bad shape now. The Democrat Party was and remains the party of slavery.

I'll give Romney kudos here. He did stick to his republican guns and actually have the balls to show up. of course he maybe did this to prove to crazies in his party that he will stay on message even in the middle of hostile territory. Still it deserves kudos, like I said

Now if he could explain what he did in Massachusetts is so different than what Obama is doing with healthcare...I mean no spin but real logical reasons, I'd like to hear.

I live in MA. He did take care of only half the problem. We have to get health insurance, but the cost of that care was not addressed. I thought the idea was you make everybody get on, and then you use that group plan set up to drive the cost down, like you get in a group plan. He didn't finish the job. He forced the worker to eat full cost and left the big cats to keep doing business as usual...(no surprise he's republican)

So, he is supposed to what,. change what he believes based on who he is talking to? That, sir, would be lying, or Clintonizing.

A man of character, no matter how much you hate his politics, wont change them when he is addressing you.

Why, exactly?

Are you saying that all black people need "free" health care? are you saying that all the NAACP is out for is handouts? What kind of people do you think "black people" are?

As a black man, I find the black hatred in this thread unacceptab..... wait, sorry, got confused for a second.

eraser8: You people don't really get it, do you?

Mitt's intent was to irritate the NAACP. That was the whole point of his going.

He knows there is NO chance that he's going to get their vote...so, he engineered a speech designed to cement the votes of people that don't like the NAACP very much (i.e. the Republican base). At the same time, the speech was designed to "impress" moderate suburbanites -- after all he went into the "lion's den" and made his pitch.

Notice when Romney speaks to Latino groups, he doesn't deliver his standard stump speech. That's because he's actually trying to get Latino votes. Romney's message here wasn't aimed at the NAACP, it wasn't aimed at black voters; it was aimed at his base and at moderate suburbanites.

Winner winner chicken dinner!

He bragged about it and wore it as a badge of honor later that day to a crowd at a fundraiser in Hamilton, Montana.

Good call, smart guy.

And fu*k you Romney, you think the NAACP is retarded don't you, you subtly racist asshat

The RW attitudes towards racism displayed in this thread and by Romney implying that blacks are all about the handout is another reason why the GOP will continue to lose the black vote and deserve to.

colithian: My boyfriend was actually involved in the recording of Romney. He's working at the NAACP convention right now. He said the booing was even more hilarious in person. d
See, usually when speakers come, he's hired to make DVDs of the speakers and then sell them to people as souvenirs. He says that even if they tried to give it away, no one would take a DVD of Mitt Romney.

That *is* funny. ^_^

Sure it isn't the fact that the Democrat Party has provided horrible leadership for the black community, but made it ok with bribes for votes? Look a their community compared to other demographics in this country. Look at their employment rates, their dropout rates, the number that don't know who their fathers are, the number in jail. There is something seriously wrong and in this case, you have to start blame at the top. Not believing African Americans to be genetically inferior to others, I believe that leadership is to blame.

propasaurus: jjorsett: Mitt Romney telling the NAACP that he would repeal Obamacare goes over about as well as you would expect

Any time you're tempted to say, "Politicians just pander and say what people want to hear," you now have a counterexample. Romney is making what he intends to do if elected crystal clear, and if he wins he'll have a genuine mandate to do it.

Except that Romney was pandering and saying what people wanted to hear. It just wasn't directed to the people in the room.

Which is just one more check on the sociopath checklist. It takes brain-damage levels of non-empathy to enter a room full of veterans of the civil-rights struggle and use that forum to address his base.

Many of Romney's claims were debunked by Senior Vice President for Advocacy and Policy and the Director of the Washington Bureau of the NAACP, Hilary Shelton who said that the only African Americans Romney met with after his speech were those that he brought with him. Mr. Shelton explained that Mitt Romney flew in his own African-American supporters who were not affiliated with the NAACP, in order to have some people in the crowd cheering for him. Link

Didn't this moron used to be a farking GOVERNOR? How could be make such huge and insanely stupid noob error like that?I will give him props for even coming to the gathering when his republican predecessors were too chickensh*t to even acknowledge their invitations, but damn... the very least he could have done was call the law by its correct name, not "Obamacare". First and foremost in giving any speech is the dictum "know your audience". What is he going to do next, go to a synagogue and start denying the holocaust? Who on his staff told him to do this? For what purpose?

My thoughts on this: his handlers (and maybe even Rmoney himself) knew they were going to be booed if they talked the smack they did, but the show they put on would be red meat for their redneck constituents. I could see them now as the video played across their FoxNoise locked television, raging at the screen - "GO GET'EM ROMNEY! F*CK THEM NI**ERS!", making him even more attractive to the mouthbreather voting bloc than he was before.

Sadness all the way around. Look closely at what Rmoney did yesterday, republicans. This is why we don't like you.
