(Sly Oyster)   You've never heard Satchmo's "What a Wonderful World" quite like this. And we're not talking about the version by that Hawaiian guy   (slyoyster.com) divider line 49

That was actually better than I thought it would be. Could have ended without the 16th version.

2012-07-11 10:23:13 AM
I still like Joey Ramone's version.

2012-07-11 10:47:23 AM
Not bad at all. The disco version was a little weak, but apart from that I can't complain.

yanceylebeef: I still like Joey Ramone's version.

It was the classiest farewell a rocker ever gave to his fans.

Some transitions were better than others, like getting into Ragtime and Motown took some effort. Overall, very creative and worth the watch.

The dub step version was lacking in 'wub". The disco one was light on strings and drums. Overall, pretty good. Bluegrass, but no country? No folk? No surf?

Best bit was the guy in shades being either ray charles or stevie wonder in the background.

Any Pie Left: The dub step version was lacking in 'wub". The disco one was light on strings and drums. Overall, pretty good. Bluegrass, but no country? No folk? No surf?

True dat, not enough `wub` not enough strings and synth for disco (which was a bit rock like) and no barbershop quartet?

InfrasonicTom: and then there's david attenborough's version

Buncha crap.

Sigh...Louis Armstrong did not write that song, Subby. Therefore "Satchmo's 'What a Wonderful World'" can only refer to his version, and so your headline is stupidly obvious. Of course we haven't heard Satchmo's "What a Wonderful World like this, because it isn't Satchmo's "What a Wonderful World".

That said, it was still only "Meh."

/Bob Thiele (using the pseudonym George Douglas) and George Weiss wrote it, FWIW.

I am disappointed. I was expecting another Playing for Change video.

Like the cover of Stand by Me they did a few years ago.

It was all good till the wubwub, then i wished terrible things on them and their offspring.

That video was a direct insult towards music.

I like the Hawaiian guy a hell of a lot more than that crap.

Balchinian: Sigh...Louis Armstrong did not write that song,

Who cares? He didn't write it, but he owned it. His is the definitive rendition. It's what people know and love. When subby said "Satchmo's 'What a Wonderful World,' everyone knew exactly what he/she meant.

Even the pedants.

You know what I love? Hendrix's "All Along the Watchtower."

when you have to hold up signs, it means you aren't doing a good enough job to make it obvious

Not unlike cedric... the entertainer (oh, he's supposed to be funny? I wouldn't have known)

kinda scrolled thru... Every clip i stopped down on, i have a criticism for:
I didn't get a 'classical' vibe from the white chick who tried to be all theatrical. The black lady Big Band singer wasn't a very good singer, and the 'Ragtime' section, i don't really get how that was supposed to be ragtime... What? because he had a piano, it was all of a sudden ragtime? There's more to it than that...

2012-07-11 08:41:42 PM
Even the black dude was white. Horrible

He really needs to do a cover of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life"

I'm surprised by all the haters in this thread. They weren't trying to make a serious artistic statement, just having a little fun.

That said: -1 for the DX7, but +10 for the metal part.
