Weird. I could actually feel my respect for her going up as I was reading that. I . . . think I actually kind of like her. She seems like a really decent actress, and I don't hate seeing her on the Daily Show like some people do.

Also: she's Asian? I didn't know that.

Did she really show the goods?
I ask merely for clarification, not out of any purient interest.

Half Vietnamese, I believe.

I never particularly cared for her; I felt she was the kind of girl who realized that since she had a mild interest in nerd hobbies she could exploit her above-nerd-average looks to get attention (and she was pretty bad, in my opinion, on her Daily Show appearances - she seemed like she was trying really hard to be Samantha Bee in tone and delivery), but that article definitely improved my opinion of her.

She did. Also, Magic Mike had a plot around all the naked men. It was a surprising good movie as just a movie (although I liked all the naked men, too).

I think there's a big part of you that's intimidated by how many Broadway people are on the show. Jeff Daniels, Sam Waterston ... Emily's British.

Ow my sides ache!

I haven't read the article yet, but I could never shake the notion that she had above average good looks and below average acting talent who found that sweet spot on the VideoGame Show she was on. Then, whether is was by her own designs, or "Hollywood" at some point she just started being forced upon us in the mainstream. Failed movie after failed tv show, I just don't think she has the looks or the talent (you need at least one) to be as big of a star as *someone* wants her to be.

This Magic Mike is the first sucessful non-G4 thing she's been in, and it certainly wasn't successful because of hordes of 50 year old women and gay guys lining up to see Olivia Munn.

I've never seen her on G4 except when they attempted the Ninja Warrior course. My exposure to her acting was/is Slammin' Salmon and the new HBO show. I'm indifferent to her overall. Not sure why "people" hate her but whatever.

no, I didn't have "potentially crazy as all fark" in the first description. Munn has fantastic physical attributes, but every time she was on AOTS and opened her mouth I wanted to ball gag her.

Half Chinese. Not a huge fan, but she used to joke about her mom's broken English on AOTS.

agree on the Daily Show appearances - she was bad. like not able to get past it cause she's hot, but jut bad, bad. Daily Show must have felt the same way, cause she hasn't been on for a while i think, and they replaced her with a marginally more talented black gal.

but i thought she was awesome on attack of the show. she had great chemistry with Kevin and was relaxed and funny.

curious as to the lack of pics on this thread. some may not know who we are even talking about. so....

I enjoy the news portions. The love triangles and such are (in my opinion) poorly written. Also, all of the female characters are weak and barely holding it together. Those portions are forgettable. The parts I like though, are enough to keep me viewing.

Well according to wiki, she is of Chinese decent but her mother was primarily raised in Vietnam and Olivia was primarily raised in Japan.

She is a hodge-podge of Asian.

While we're on the subject, X-Play seemed to have dropped Adam Sessler.

You're dead to me, G4.

She is...actually okay in "The Newsroom."

Her character's interaction with MacKenzie made me forget that it was her. They're limiting her role on the show as well, which works. But when she shows up, she's alright.

disagree, disagree, totally agree

2012-07-11 03:20:55 PM
When Munn first appeared on AOTS she was appealing in an insecure younger sister sort of way that didn't last very long. She became more confident and had very little talent on which to base that confidence. She came across as someone who knew she was hot looking and could get away with a lot of things, such as not being particularly funny. On the Daily Show her lack of acting chops was even more evident. Comedy is difficult and she didn't have what it takes. On The Newsroom, so far at least, she comes across pretty well. I am not disliking her on that show.

Did X-Play really lose Adam Sessler? That's insane. He and Morgan Webb are integral to that show. And speaking of women on G4 that are very hot indeed, Morgan Webb is such a one. And she comes across as having a great personality, someone you would like to hang out with.

I find Morgan Webb, AKA Jabberjaw, to be truly awful. Sessler was the only decent thing about X-Play, but the show as a whole was terrible. The focus on making snarky comments over actually reviewing the games comprehensively was the biggest issue, but the stupid skits and underdeveloped ratings system sucked too.

YodaBlues: Am I the only one who enjoys this show?

No, I enjoy it, but not as much as I hoped I would. With the third episode, they changed the narrative format from the first two, which was a big plus.

The problem with Sorkin being Sorkin throughout an entire 1 hour show is that you don't allow the characters to "breathe". They kinda look emotionless sometimes, just barking out dialogue at the speed of the Micro Machines guy. The pacing shouldn't be fast for the entire episode.

I'll give you that the don/allison pill/the other guy love triangle is pretty lackluster. I'd argue the women are actually pretty strong, given that jeff daniels character is a raging asshole, but they could be better sure. I'm willing to give it time to find it's feet. To compare to another Aaron Sorkin show (West Wing), I always preferred Donna and C.J. Season 7 as opposed to Season 1, but I really enjoyed watching the characters progress to those points respectively.

Of course, Sorkin left the West Wing after Season 4, which might explain why the writing for females got progressively better...

Comcast replaced the beloved techtv with g4. Some people seem to think she was the CEO at the time.

She and Pereira were pretty good on AOTS but they had to move on, it's not Regis and Kelly. She apparently has no trouble showing up for work and remembering her lines so she could easily have a (decades)long moderately successful career, a la Terri Garr.

I hope so. I like her a lot.

Honestly, I always found X-Play to be good only for mindless entertainment; it was the only thing watchable of their original programming once Screensavers went away.

In one of their early seasons, they did a skit where they dressed Sessler in a crappy superhero costume and had him sprint down the street. That went on the air before they realized his junk was flopping all over the place in those shots. He was a good sport about it later, at least.

True, she hasn't had much screentime yet, but she's held her own, even through that exchange with Emily Mortimer. She's doing a good job so far. Credit where credit is due.

Now, please stop making me defend Olivia Munn. It makes me feel dirty and cheap.
