My dad's lab was like a pharmacological candy store, so I started real young. Next thing I know, i'm blowing lines of voodoo powder off the back of a monkey's paw I bought in Calcutta. Now I'm all out of wishes.

That took 20 years too long for them to come to that conclusion. Could it be because the political boilerplate bullshiat scared away real research back then?

Alcohol is a gateway drug and as such, must be banned. We should pass a Constitutional Amendment to prohibit alcohol sales and use immediately. What could go wrong?

I sniffed dichloromethane as a teen. Wasn't much fun, your body just vibrates and you keel over unconscious. My Dad wasn't too thrilled I was sniffing his Plexiglas glue though. After that I started drinking beer.

So to rephrase...

Legally on the market mind altering substance often serves as an introduction to other mind altering substances.

And people are somehow surprised by this.

Hmm I've been drinking alcohol for 30+ years and haven't moved up to other drugs. Guess I'm a slow learner.

This just takes me back to the Jesse Ventura clip where the guy on the television screen is defending alcohol as being a cultural tradition for thousands of years while decreeing pot as a dangerous substance.

/for the kids!

Any fairly weak drug that can be perceived as purely ok to use daily can probably be considered a gateway drug.

It all started when I realized I could catch an awesome buzz by banging my head against my crib, from there I progressed to holding my breath and spinning around in circles. Man, that will get you really really high, and makes preschool so much better.

Or it could just be that "real" research usually doesn't need to reinvent the wheel.

WE ALL KNEW THIS ALREADY.

I used to hold my breath and try and make my face red.

One day in elementary school, I discovered not only would it make you feel all tingly, but you can make yourself pass out entirely!

/Only got in a little trouble.

I can't believe money was wasted on this study..OF COURSE alcohol is almost always the first drug most of us take. It is one of the few legal ones, it is relatively inexpensive and you can find it at any convenience store. I didn't actually read the article because the title suggested derp, but the insinuation that knocking back a few frostys will lead you to shooting black tar heroin directly into your eyeball is ridiculous.
