"Size makes no difference, it's the amount of fight in the person," said Chief William McManus, San Antonio Police. Fox San Antonio gave the police department a copy of the video, but the Chief says he didn't see it. When we offered to show him, he said he didn't need to see it. "What's on the video is in my understanding is what the officer reported."

Chief: Your officers are very poorly trained if they find it necessary to hit someone to get them to comply. And you're a poor leader if you blindly defend their actions.

We have decided that you need to be cuffed and beaten to death. But dont worry if you dont have a large amount of fight in you. We expect you to be crying like a little girl about the time we put the cuffs on you.

this
Texas is a real close second to floriduh. Alas, so are pretty much the other 48 states.
On the other hand, those farkers in tehas gave us bush 2.0.

Have not seen a new tag in a while (Long time). What's up with that Drew? Are the tags now sponsored links?

Give Governor Goodhair another 6 months and I'll bet he manages to get Texas it's own tag if the police chiefs don't do it first.

send all the officers in question, including the fearless leader on a 1 year training exchange in mexico. that should give them a new perspective. not to mention a chance to get away from it all.

There are currently 39 different tags.
The problem is ontological. The more tags you add, the more complexity which is required when you submit a link. (this is funny, ironic and sarcastic. Which of the 3 tags should I use? Oh noes!!) Allowing multiple tags per headline would solve part of this but lead to lazy submissions. Dont get me started if we went down the hierarchy route. (Country, State, cities, shudder)

Toss in the never ending WHINING of farkers related to things like, WHY do we have a TEXAS tag and not a NEW YORK tag????? wha wha wha

/seriously - could we bring back voting?
/LOL

I live in Floriduh... I'm sickly proud that my home has its own tag- but I'm telling you- Texas and Ohio will always be worse despite what FARK says...

When he started to arrest her, she fought back.

So a hooker gets preggo and suddenly she's allowed to hit cops?

It's all about spin, and this story can be bounced both ways.

I could not, in good conscience, continue to call you out for supporting the bad actions of police without also praising you for not supporting the actions of the chief in this case. Thank you for doing that.

Just so we're clear, though, you also don't support the actions of the officers, right? I know you said that they must be poorly-trained in order to do such a thing, but does poor training excuse their actions or only explain them?

Of course not. Plausible deniability, yo. Anyway, a cop would NEVER lie.

Some of them could be consolidated or removed. Do we really need Strange AND Weird? Cool AND Spiffy? Stupid, Dumbass AND Asinine? Also the Satire tag could go away, I haven't seen it used in a dog's age.

While I admit to a certain level of admiration for a superior that goes to bat for his guys and just doesn't toss them under the proverbial bus to save his own ass, I can't help but feel that his loyalty to his officers is slightly misplaced here.

You know, because of the whole "beating a handcuffed, pregnant woman" thing. I think that might be an acceptable line to cut bait and let that one go without anyone thinking less of you.

2012-07-11 03:47:18 AM
yes, we need a tag here... because obviously if you get pregnant and come here....... we'll punch ya

If you're getting beat on after you're cuffed, the spin only bounces one way. Yes, people will continue to resist once cuffed, even violently resist, but once someone is restrained their ability to harm someone else goes way, way down. No amount of spin in the world can excuse three cops from beating on a handcuffed suspect.

Kudos as well. I don't think I can ever recall having seen anything but badge licking coming from Cruiser Twelve. Nice to see there is some perspective there after all.

/I can't believe the chief was actually impolitic enough to do that openly. Stonewall any inquiry in private, yes, but men that get to his rank are usually smart enough to at least act like they care for the camera.

I think it's safe to say that no, he doesn't approve. While a pregnant woman can in fact put up a fight and if armed would be treated as any other suspect in regards to force (exception being not aiming for the belly, of course), any suspect that is already handcuffed is a neutralized threat. There is no reason, ever, to strike an unarmed, subdued, and restrained prisoner. Pregnant or not.

In short, these guys are poorly trained thugs that get their jollies from being abusive bullies, and sadly become the face of every police officer to a lot of people.

No. Because FEAR of crime. Most crime stats are at their lowest point in generations.
Its just the insane fear mongering about crime that has hit a fever pitch. There is a lot of money to be made from that fear for the people interested in monetizing it, and a lot of power to seize from the people interested in becoming more powerful. Bad combination.

I wish I could be that sure, but this is the same person that defended the officer who shot an unarmed, handcuffed man in the back while he was lying on the ground (The BART shooting in Oakland), so I am just asking for clarification.

krackpipe: We'd be better off having the military police us. Standardized training. No union. Potentially more accountability.

One of the best lines in that regard came from a movie back in 1999, I think, called "The Seige." Had Bruce Willis as a general asked to put New York under marshal law in order to root out terrorists. He warned the politicians that the military is not surgical, and does not have a precise touch. That it's "not a scalpal, it's a broadsword."

I don't think replacing these sociopaths with sociopaths with bigger guns is really the best idea. Standardized training is a good start, but military training is a different beast.

If it's not their first kid, women do tend to start showing early. The body seems to "know" what it has to do and the muscles loosen and uterus adjusts pretty fast.

It's not universal, obviously, but possible.

If that woman doesn't like how we treat heroine addicted prostitutes that resist arrest in Texas, I'm sure my fellow Texans would be happy to pitch in to buy her bus fare to some other place.
